Maybelline Raw Reveal the Buffs Lipstick Review & Swatches

Maybelline Raw Reveal Lipstick

Maybelline Raw Reveal Color Sensational the Buffs Lipstick is a new limited edition shade that’s available with the Maybelline Dare to Go Nude Collection.

Raw Reveal is an iffy little purchase for me as this is truly a nude shade but it has its uses.

There is no doubt in my mind a lot of women and men can rock Maybelline Raw Reveal the Buffs Lipstick like a superstar. I am however, not one of those lucky people. A few years ago MAC released a collection with a similar shade the name of which escapes me at the moment but it was massively popular at the time.

As you know shades like I put on my zombie aka rigor mortis lip shade list. They just look deathly on me! Or if I’m honest I kinda look like I have chapped lips with it on.

This is a lighter tan beige that completely nudes my lips out. It feels kinda like it has a hint to mauve to it when I apply it but that could be the natural pigment of my lips that’s morphing the color. The texture is quite creamy and surprisingly the shade doesn’t settle into the natural lines of my lips and leaves behind a smooth, even finish. It has a light kinda play doh-ish scent and flavor. I noticed that the Buffs Lipsticks vary in the fragrance/flavor department on my testing. Some of the permanent shades I tried barely had any fragrance where as these new LE def have it!

Now…

This isn’t a completely useless shade. You can use it to prime lips and it’ll make a particularly good base for lipsticks as it nudes your lips out completely so it’ll allow darker shades to look more intense and vibrant. That’s how I’m using it!

Of course, if you can rock the shade, obviously you won’t need to use it as a lip primer 🙂

It’s available now but only for a limited time!

Own it?

How’s it look on you?

I purchased this item.

I *love* it… I totally rock these shades, so I hope I can get my hands on all of these, except maybe the bronzy shade; I can’t do those!

Is Myth the shade of MAC lipstick you’re thinking of? I think this looks quite pretty on you, Muse! Very ethereal

I am on the same boat as you, I will look like one of the walking dead if I use these nude shades. Bummer really…

Ooh I love the look of this lipstick! I am a massive fan of nude toned lippys, and from the swatches this is definitely one I’d purchase! Thanks for the review & swatches! 🙂

My initial reaction upon seeing the picture of this was “I love that”. I can’t wait to get it. This is your nude shade, it looks amazing on you.

HA HA HA rigor mortis lip shade!!! It’s definitely a look you have to love. I do nude lips sometimes and this looks like it might be a win with my coloration — IF ONLY THEY WOULD SHOW UP IN MY AREA ALREADY!!! Come ON, Maybelline!! Flyover states want your cool LE collection, too!
Actually, I’m going on a scouting expedition today after work and maybe they will have finally made an appearance here. Ulta told me they will be getting them “around the end of MARCH”. Good grief (*head desk*)

I’m using the shade “Nude Embrace” as a primer before applying a lipstick I was talked into buying by the lady at the Estee Lauder counter. You know how some old ladies wear such bright lipsticks that their faces are completely dominated by the lipstick? That’s how the Lauder lipstick looks on me.

I’ve found that when I use this as a primer, it tones down the too bright color beautifully. Good thing, or else both lipsticks would have been a colossal waste of money.

Necessity is the mother of invention!

muse, i can’t rock the nudes. but, i like your idea of using it as a base with maybe a darker color/gloss over it. this color does look pretty on you, kinda mod 60’s! but, i don’t think i’ll be purchasing it. every super nude i’ve ever bought does not get worn.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks lisa! It really works great as a primer of sorts but on its own no bueno!

  • Jessica

You just need a more intense eye makeup look, and it would be more balanced out and not so deathly.

Oh, God. Oh, no. I say this with all the love in the world, Muse, but as much as I hope to run into you in NYC one day, I will turn around and walk the other way if you’re wearing this shade. XD

I have not bought any of these lipsticks. I don’t like any of these nude colors & am going to pass on this collection. I am going to keep wearing my pretty pinks, mauves, and berries, & hope the Summer collections have some color! ;D

      • Debbie

Oh how I wish I could wear corals. They are so pretty! I have never found the right coral for my skintone. When I wear them, they look too bright. I have a light(cooler) skintone, with grayish-blue eyes. I am classified as a soft summer. Any suggestions anyone? Thank you in advance. 🙂
