Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Matte/Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Matte Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette1

By some miracle the Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Matte/Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette ($29.99) and Sonia Kashuk Matte Red Lipstick released for Holiday 2013 are still very much available at certain stores or online at Target.com.

Praise the makeup gods!

I absolutely loved the Matte Red Lipstick and even I didn’t get a chance to review it during the Holidays I am totally on board with the Eye on Neutral Matte/Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette.

With nudes and naturals, cure the Maybelline Dare to Go Nude Collection, on the rise for Spring 2014 now is a good a time as any as to haul out the Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Matte/Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette.

Apparently this little palette combines the Matte Eye Couture Eye On Neutral and Shimmer Eye Couture Eye On Neutral Palettes into one. Those palettes range at $19.99 each so this gives you both at a $10 savings although the eyeshadows in this palette look a bit smaller…unsure how big the ones are in the Eye Couture Palettes but these weight in at a total of 0.51 oz for all eighteen shades.

This is a very nice size compact. It’s quite small with a generously sized mirror and isn’t bulky or clumsy to travel with should you desire. It’s nice to have eighteen shades of nude eyeshadow in one easy to carry around palette should you go away for a week or two and you’re not wanting to carry a ton of assorted eyeshadow with you. I think in someways this might remind you of palettes like the E.L.F. Cosmetics Little Black Beauty Book but I do think the quality and pigmentation is considerably palette.

Note: I swatched some but not all of the shades in this palette.

The shimmer shades are incredibly smooth with a velvety texture and excellent pigmentation. They wear on my drier lids for a solid six hours without creasing and show minor fading at around hour eight. They apply like butter with a smooth finish that’s has an almost metallic sheen.

I think the mattes are slightly drier. I wish they had a little more of a silky consistency but with a sponge applicator they do apply easily without looking chalky or patchy. It’s just the texture is a bit dense and dry when compared to the lovely texture of the shimmers.

Either way I think the palette is quite great. I like the travel size, I like having a ton of nude, natural options in one part, and they consistency of the shades is fab. Of course, you do have to question slightly at dishing out $30 on this. About $20 more will get you any of the Naked Palette including the brand new Naked 3 should you desire and those are all full size eyeshadows that won’t have a drier texture on you. I have wishes that this was $14.99-$19.99! I think the $29.99 makes me wince slightly! A price chop wouldn’t go unnoticed for next year’s Holiday palette but there is quality to be had here with a great array of natural shades tucked into one small compact!

I have been using this palette for the last two weeks and I love it! I was delighted to see them on clearance at my local Target for $19.99+tax. The cheaper price tag was the only reason I pulled the trigger…

Does anyone know if the shades are exactly the same as the Eye on Neutral Shimmer and Matte Palettes from the regular collection?

  • Kelsey

My target put it on clearance this weekend so it’s half off , everyone should check there local target to see if maybe they can get the same deal 🙂

  • Julie

Muse!!!! I scored this today on clearance at Target for half price at 14.99! I felt the same way about the price. Wish me luck, I havent swatched it yet!

I’ve seen these on sale for $20.95 at several Target stores over the last couple of weeks, which is a bit of a discount. I personally couldn’t justify it myself, as the shades pull a bit too golden for me, but it certainly is a great palette for $21.00!

  • Let

I think I saw them on clearance at my local Target a couple of weeks ago. They’re still $21-23 apiece though (can’t remember the exact price)…

Oh man- I regret buying this palette SOOOOO much. All the matte colors are flippin’ awful! Dry and chalky, I actually had to attempt digging to try and get any pigment out of some. The shimmers are fine, but I feel like half the palette is unusable D:

def dry! but thankfully not too chalky here…do love the shimmers though ;-D sorry you had such a bad time of it puri 🙁

  • Quinctia

Is it bad that I honestly enjoy Sonia Kashuk stuff but only ever end up buying it on clearance?

I think it’s because I’m not makeup shopping at Target, and I only ever pick up stuff in the range of an impulse buy. Which the regular price of SK isn’t, at least for me, anyway!

That palette looks quite nice, but I’ve got neutrals out my ears for someone that wears them a few times a month, tops.

This review took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I think I’ll pass based on the size/price.

  • JenJ

Said I was going to see if it was at my Target since I’ve seen posts on Instagram of it being on sale for $13 something. We shall see. I know I wasn’t going to pay $30 for it.

Muse,,,Loving this FOTD on you! You are owning this look & rockin that red lipstick girl! Loving the look of this palette,,they are right up my alley. But for the price,,,not so sure. It’s VERY tempting, that’s for sure. IS there such a thing as TOO MANY neutral colors/palettes? ;-D LOL ,,,didn’t think so!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks debbie 😀 <3! apparently it is on sale at target stores for a great deal so that helps ;-D hell no, I NEED more natural palettes hehe!

  • Ashley

Wow what a wonderful palette, own a Sonia duo myself and I’ve had it forever, I’m wearing it today actually! Love the colors just wish there were more shimmery colors and less matte, but overall a wonderful variety. I would so buy this! I’m trying really hard not to buy anything right now:)

Was at target picking things up for the new house 🙂 and browsed the make up section, this palette was on clearance for 14.99, i thought about it then I put it back because I need more eyeshadow like I need a hole in the head and that’s $15 I can put towards the house instead. Sigh #housepoor

    • Isabella Muse

$14.99 SOUNDS so much nicer 🙂 lol aw <3! That's ok! fixing up your house is so much more important 🙂

  • Jules

I looked at it in the store, but I found it disappointing since the shadow pans are just too small. It reminded me of play makeup for a child because the pans were so small. I couldn’t imagine using it would be comfortable so I didn’t buy it.

  • Michelle

I just purchased this at my local Target in St. Peters, MO for $8.98!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Score 🙂
