Review & Swatches

The Tarte Color Your World with Shades of Clay Collection includes:

Tarte Color Your World with Shades of Clay Collection

I’ve reviewed many of the products already and you can see the links above to see detailed reviews on each of the items featured in this set.

Tarte concentrates on perfecting your face in this set with a less emphasis on eyes with this set. Eyes are a simple affair with eyeliner and one of Tarte’s bestselling mascaras, Lights, Camera, Lashes. I use Lights, Camera, Lashes daily. It’s one of my favorite, HG (holy grail mascaras). It’s a simple brush applicator with a straight line and a formula that lengthens, adds good volume, and creates longer lashes in a few swipes. The formula never smudges or flakes on my drier eyes and wears long and strong. The Clay Eyeliner in this set is a bit drier compared to past Tarte formulas. Tarte def excels at creating some of the creamiest eyeliners on the market but this is considerably less creamy and glossy with a matte finish and a slightly drier texture that smudges easily but doesn’t glide on as smoothly across my lash line. I’d suggest warming it gently on the back of your arm to get an easy glide! It does wear long on my drier eyes without fading, flaking, or smudging.

Two of my favorite pieces in the collection are the new Tarte Colored Clay SPF 15 Liquid Foundation and Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer. Both are available in your choice of five shades. I’ve reviewed these in great detail in another post and you can follow the links above to find those reviews. Used together the products create a flawless, airbrushed appearance! Tarte did quite a great job with both…I see the primer becoming something I’ll likely prep my skin with daily. Tarte also includes a slanted Bamboo Brush to apply the foundation. This is an angled brush that fits the contour of your face nicely and allows you to brush and buff on the thicker foundation. This brush comes in hand to thin and sheer the formula of the foundation out since it is very pigmented.

Also included with the set is blush, lipgloss, and a very large makeup bag. The makeup bag is a thinner canvas material and makes for a perfect going away bag as it is quite huge, you can tuck shampoo bottles in this thing along with other essentials. The blush I’ve already reviewed but briefly I’d like to say I love how this combines the elements of a sunny glowing bronzer along with a bright blush to give cheeks a burst of color!

Beyond a doubt the set is a huge value working out to around $10 per full size product after shipping. Where in the world can you get full size makeup products of this quality for around $10 bucks each? The value is just excellent and Tarte is always on their A game with this QVC sets. It’s Spring soon or at least they tell me that’s happening sometime soon and perhaps you’re starting to shop bronzers and perhaps a new foundation to ease your dull, tired Winter skin. If that’s the case you’ll find everything you need to wash away the Winter blues with the Tarte Color Your World with Shades of Clay Collection. This is a great set and a great value.

I just love the way this set looks! It’s such a great value and the products seem amazing. I’m trying not to haul it but goodness! Tarte is making things really hard lol

I was wondering how this foundation compares with the Amazonian Clay 12-hour full coverage? I have oily skin and that is the foundation I am currently using. I get all day coverage with just a little touch up. Does it cover as well? Would it last as long as the 12 hour foundation?

    • Cindy

I don’t have the Amazonian clay foundation but from what I’ve noticed about this liquid foundation is that it’s very buildable. I can get sheer coverage all over and then apply more in certain areas if I want that full coverage look. I have post-acne hyperpigmentation marks, redness around my nose, large pores, and uneven skin tone yet this foundation covers them all!

I find that it does sink into my pores a little around the 4 hour mark but everything else is still pretty covered. This is all with no primer and a little translucent powder lightly all over the face. It gives a very natural, slightly luminescent finish (without being oily looking or shiny) but I like a matte look so I add powder. I have not tried it on for 12 hours but for 6+ hours (only wore it for about 6 hours), this foundation wore pretty well, didn’t look patchy or anything. My darkest hyperpigmentation marks did peek through slightly towards the end of wear time but since those areas are where I’m most oily (and I touch my nose and chin a lot throughout the day), that’s to be expected.

I didn’t need to touch up until the end of the 6 hours (but then I ended up removing everything afterwards to go to the gym) but my face didn’t feel oily to the touch; like I said, I prefer a matte (almost porcelain doll-like) effect.

My nose has a lot of pores so any foundation I use tends to sink in there if I don’t use a primer and that was the biggest issue I found with this foundation. Color match was also slightly too dark for me but that was my fault and not the foundation (could be great for the summertime!) Other than that, coverage and wear time was great!

Oh, I’m combination skin, with oily t-zone and normal cheeks if that helps you any. Hopefully this helps you out!

Mine is arriving today! I can’t wait! I fell absolutely gaga over the new Tarte beMATTEnificent palette so obviously I had to go for this too. Even if I don’t like the foundation I can always pass it along and I’ve still received quality products that I know I love for a great price!

Muse, how do you feel about the lipgloss? Personally, I’m not a lip gloss fan, especially when it has shimmers in it. Did you find that it was pigmented enough to be worn alone? Could you feel the shimmers? I’m glad I bought this set because you seem to like it a lot but I didn’t want to try the lip gloss on in case I didn’t like it (to keep it sanitary and give it to someone else–don’t want to pass on used products to my friends and family if I can help it!).

I have a review that I linked to in the post Cindy that discussed the gloss in detail did you not see the link? hope this helps?!
