Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Shine Review & Swatches

Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Shine Pencil

Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Shine are a new chubby colored lip balm pencil that launched with the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer 2014 Collection recently.

The new Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Shine ($24) are available in two shades and available for a limited time.

And I’m here to tell you all about how you should avoid them like a plague.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Shine

I have to admit it! I was SO excited when I saw Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Shines pop up! I’m a massive fan of chubby lip balm pencils and truly the trend has not grown tired with me. I dislike reapplying lipstick and gloss as the day progresses so I stash one or even several colors in my desk drawer and makeup bags for quickie touch ups. They add a touch of sheen, moisture, and nice color to my lips.

Needless to say I was hyped that Estee Lauder decided to launch two with their Bronze Goddess Summer Collection.

But…..

These are a spot on dupe for the original Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms. Even the two shades are easily duped from colors already available in Clinique’s permanent collection. Granted, Clinique is one of Estee Lauder’s brands so no surprise they duped these up for a repromote under the main Estee Lauder Collection.

Problem?

They are $24 each and smaller than Clinique’s version!

These weight in at .08 oz where as Clinique’s are 0.1 oz at $17 a shade.

Ouch Estee Lauder y u do this to me?

Each chubby pencil swivels up so no sharpener is needed. They provide fairly nice color with a hint of a sheen on lips and a heavier yet comfortable balm-y texture that provides nice moisture to lips through the wear. Colors are nicely pigmented so you aren’t get just a hint of tint but a full color experience. Basically, they are exactly the same formulation as Clinique’s version! They even have that very slight cardboard taste that Clinique’s version has, maybe I’m crazy but it kinda tastes like that to me.

You’ve been warned! So if you’re heading to your local counter to pick up some of the Bronze Goddess Collection please do yourself a favor and remind yourself about the Clinique Chubby Balms you likely already have in your stash and save yourself some money.

Good luck!

I always read your blog, like religiously, but this is the first time I comment! Thanks for the heads up on these! Much rather splurge on the bronzers or palette! Do you think the bronzer is a must?

    • Isabella Muse

thanks kary 🙂 so glad you read so often on here! Flattered. My pleasure! Not sure, haven’t tried the bronzer can’t recommend it as a must.

Thanks so much Muse! I’m going to pass on these. They look lovely on you though 🙂

I am addicted to your blog here. I absolutely love the plum color on you! Gorgeous! Thank you for keeping me well educated on so many different brands! You’re wonderful!

I’ve been very disappointed lately in Lauder moisturizers. Many of them (including the very expensive Re-Nutriv and Resilience Lift Day) pill on the skin terribly. No excuse for that, especially in a high end product that’s very expensive.

I do like their new ‘global’ moisturizer and the Day Wear crème with cucumbers. No pilling with these products. But if Lauder isn’t aware that certain of their moisturizers do pill on the face, they’re not paying attention — or perhaps they don’t care?

they look pretty, love the plum best on you, thanks for the heads up on the price/dup points. Estee Lauder has always been hit or miss with me.

“They are $24 each and smaller than Clinique’s version!”

Boo. Thanks for the warning, Muse!

BOOO! HISS! Bad Estee! Bad for playing on my undying love of chubby pencils! I will just walk right on past to the nice lady at Clinique and buy those cheaper ones AND have a nice chit-chat about Chanel and Tom Ford while I am at it! I don’t need your snobby old ladies who work at your local counter anyway! Nice lady at Clinique will happily take my money no matter how grubby I look (and I always look grubby when shopping for makeup for some reason)! Hurmp. lol

Also–Muse, those colors are very lovely on you. I really love the Mandarine color. I guess it is pretty awesome that Clinique’s are cheaper really. Just sad though that Estee can’t put out their own, unique versions.

LOL I know right? I was so disappointed as I love me some chubby pencils! lol! You can totally grab a dupe of the mandarine as clinique has at least two bright oranges to choose from ;-D
