Maybelline Stroke of Midnight Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Maybelline Stroke of Midnight Color Tattoo Eyeshadow

Maybelline Stroke of Midnight Color Tattoo Eyeshadow is the last of the six limited edition Color Tattoo Eyeshadow I’ve been reviewing for you from the Maybelline Dare to Go Nude Spring 2014 Makeup Collection.

This one is a pure black that might just double up as an eyeliner as well should you like!

Out side of Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Eyeshadow in Black Mystery the actually cream Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Collection has been sadly lacking in the black department. I can’t really think of a single black shade permanent or limited edition that has been launched so those who wants something to act as a base for a smoky eye or just as someone who likes black shadow you’re in for a treat with the Maybelline Stroke of Midnight Color Tattoo Eyeshadow.

Japanese brand KATE used to have a gel eyeliner a lot like Stroke of Midnight. This is a pure black but has faint silver shimmer in the mix. This sadly means it would be a no go for waterline use but if you’re feeling rebellious on your upper lash line it’ll double up as a gel eyeliner of sorts.

This is an excellent base for a traditional smoky eye or as a sheer color wash. The color is very versatile although some, myself included, might find it challenging to use as an all over lid color as it’s a shade that will emphasize dark circles, finer lines, etc….I’d recommend it as a color wash with a bit of Black Mystery Pure Pigment tapped on top for the best effect. I think the powder pigment softens the look a little bit. Of course, if you’re all about black nothing will stop you from applying heavily all over lids, blending out, and going.

I find when using it as a gel eyeliner it applies a bit patchy so you have to go over your line a few times for the boldest, smoothest finish.

Needless to say Maybelline Stroke of Midnight Color Tattoo Eyeshadow is in fact a unique shade for Maybelline’s Tattoo range and quite lovely due to the silver sparkle in the mix!

I purchased this item.

I hope I find these this weekend, but I’ve resigned to the fact that may not happen… My local CVS had the blush, highlighter sticks, lipstick (except Ravishing Rose was sold out), nail polish, and eyeshadow quads, but no glosses or these, not even a space.

Don’t give up! I did, and I stumbled upon mine today at Walgreens. Some stores are just behind, probably. 🙂

I noticed that my local Ulta has the Dare to Go Nude Color Tattoos in stock right now. Take a peek and good luck! Tried the Color Elixirs in Gleaming Gold but could not stomach the flavor. 🙁

    Hey Muse:
I’ve used it as a liner these last few days and have been impressed with how well it’s been holding up. I can’t quite see using it on the entire lid, but when you figure that one out, you let me know.

Also want to say that you were my inspiration to start blogging about beauty. Always love your thoughts and topics. Thank you.
    Hugs,
    Anna

Holy BALLS I wish i could pull off black eyeshadow!! Thick black eyeliner is a YES but sadly shadow is a no 🙁 my eyes are different shapes, one with a crease and one without, and a solid dark shadow makes it oh so obvious.

But, really, this shade looks fab! My inner goth is calling… maybe I should pick this one up anyway…!

So, I had this bright gold pigment that was just sitting around because it pulled too yellow on me. I tried using the stroke of midnight color tattoo as a base and then pressing the pigment on top…and it was amaaaazing. The black darkened up the yellow-gold so it looks more like an deep antique gold and I put navy in the outer v + dark brown in the crease to blend it out…and wow. LOOOVED how it turned out. Plus, I got compliments all night long 🙂
