Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl

It’s a funny thing about Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl ($33.99) it might seem expensive for a drugstore eye cream but it actually has some rather fine ingredients.

Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl is one of a few new skincare products launched in the Regenerist Luminous Collection (there’s a cleanser and a new moisturizer as well) that addresses the appearance of dark circles.

Let’s take a look!

Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl2

Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl includes niacinamide as well as palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 for fighting the signs of aging as well as brightening up the eye area.

Actually you’ll see visual results right away thanks to mica in the formula which diffuses the appearance of darkness. The mica is one reason I dislike this though as it’s a little TOO bright for me and it makes me look like I applied some sparkly, frosty eyeshadow under my eyes. Considering my eyes are drier I didn’t feel this was moisturizing enough for me and it sort of patched up on me during application as well (I think that comes across in my swatch below). Since a little will go a long way due to the mica I felt inclined to apply very little and this in turn does nothing for my dry as the desert eyes. I find the texture a little odd as it seems to be made up of part gel (like the texture of Olay Age Defying Classic Eye Gel) combined with a thicker highlighter type cream. I find it doesn’t absorb so well which results in some unusual patchiness under my eyes due to the cream portion of the product.

Although Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl contains a great array of anti-aging ingredients at a cheaper price compared to counters I’m one of the unfortunate few that can’t really use as I need way more moisture and the mica is just a little too sparkly for my tastes.

You might wish to use another eye cream prior to this for extra moisture and rely on this to diffuse the appearance of dark circles while also treating the delicate skin under your eyes. Of course, niacinamide may brighten things a bit with extended use but won’t technically erase or treat dark circles completely. That’s where the mica comes into play at reducing the appearance of that pesky darkness!

For those in need of plenty of moisture you might not find it with Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl. However, if you have dark circles to do battle with this might brighten the area up considerably but use sparsely for a more natural finish.

This one is available now at drugstores or grab it online at drugstore.com.

I read on the Paula’s Choice website that Proctor & Gamble (the company that owns Olay) bought DDF last year, and that new DDF products are very, very similar to the Olay products but Olay is, of course, 1/4 the price. I had high hopes for Olay based on this, but it seems like there is always something wrong with them! Either they are weirdly formulated or not moisturizing enough or greasy or just wrong. Such a disappointment!

I knew I should have waited on you! I had the exact same reaction with the texture, mine seemed to peel or roll up into little balls.I didn’t like the sparkles and what I thought was good-the fact that it was to be gentle and you could use it on your eyelids and not just the orbital part but then everything was silvery and shiny(like glitter fall out) and when I put my eye shadow primer on top I had a lot of stuff going on that was not pretty. Next time they say luminous I will listen or just wait for your review.

I had that problem! it also went completely patchy on me. The gel part is good the mica swirl acts more like a highlighter and it just balls up and patches when patting into place, it’s TOO much sparkle. it actually does work to brighten the area up but the sparkle is too too too much…! perhaps on younger eyes than my own?

Aww, I had somewhat high hopes for this…I’m a sucker for all the swirly products 🙂 But I see what you mean about the shimmer, it’s straight up frosty! Actually really liking the brightening eye cc cream by Olay — still has a tad bit of that shimmer, but it just absorbs so very nicely for me. As always, thanks for the honest reviews!

my pleasure maggie! I’m actually testing that one now ;-D

Hmmm, it sounds kind of similar to the origins refreshing eye cream (it’s also 30$ for .5 oz.), which I have mixed feelings about (is it too shiny? does it moisturize well enough? does it make the problem worse? maybe I actually love it and should buy more? <–this is me going back and forth with my origins eye cream).

I’ve tried the refreshing eye cream too and ALWAYS have that feeling, I actually ended up pushing it towards the back of my skincare and rarely using it because I feel like it is too shiny!

Wow, thanks for the review. At first I thought I might want to give this a try, since it was something new that might work for me, but after reading your comments, I think you just saved me 40 bucks! I think the problems you have with it would be the same issues I would have with it — what’s up with that frosted eyeshadow look? NOT something I would want to be applying under my eyes, either! I thank you and my wallet definitely thanks you!

my pleasure I think if you don’t have a naturally smooth under eye area you’ll run into hiccups with the formula. It’s packed with great ingredients but it pills and patches up a good deal under drier, finely lined eyes or at least that was the case for me. And yup, it does have a frosty eyeshadow look to it 🙁 my pleasure! You should try the Olay Eye Gel I featured recently that’s quite refreshing and nice for AM use 😀
