Pantene Cleansing Conditioner

Pantene Cleansing Conditioner hits drugstores this Spring for fans of Wen who always wanted a budget friendly option! Recently, Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner released and last year LOreal EverCurl Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner which sorta started the ball rolling for drugstore formulated cleansing conditioners.

To be honest, I love this because Wen felt like the only option for a long time but Wen does remain my favorite none the less.

Pantene Damage Repair Cleansing Conditioner will only set you back about $5-$6.99 at drugstores though which makes it a favorable option compared to Wen’s way higher price tag.

Let’s take a look!

Honestly, if you wanna try out a Cleansing Conditioner and want to do so on a budget I’d stick with either L’Oreal’s version or Herbal Essences as I didn’t feel Pantene Cleansing Conditioner cut it for me.

This felt more like a hair masque treatment to me. It’s very thick and creamy but it lacks the thickness I’ve come to associate with Cleansing Conditioner. I also felt like I was conditioner my hair or using a conditioner treatment or mask versus actually cleaning my hair when I used it. Out of the shower my hair was very soft and tangle-free but…this will sound weird…it didn’t actually feel clean as I brushed it out. I get more of a squeaky clean feel when using the Herbal Essence formula.

This does rinse clean away but I do feel like it leaves a little bit of a film that sometimes conditioners do. This might be why I felt less than cleansed after using it. It also builds up badly so be sure to clarify weekly if you’re using this. It’s not a co-wash but Pantene recommends shampooing and conditioning your hair every 2 to 3 days after using this. Eh? It’s a cleansing conditioner why do I have to shampoo and conditioner like I do regularly!? The entire idea and concept of a cleansing conditioner is it cleanses as it conditioners and acts to do both jobs…no reason to add an extra step to my regime the point was to eliminate steps not bad more.

Overall, if you’re going to budget friendly route for your cleansing conditioner I do suggest Herbal Essences or L’Oreal as those were the better option. Pantene’s version creates a good deal of build up and doesn’t exactly give my hair that squeaky clean feel.

No like.

I’ve been using the herbal essence one every other day, but it’s not the one you linked in the post, the one I got is in a pink bottle, supposably for colored hair. It’s actually really nice, I can’t compare it to wen since I never really tried it before but yeah I like it lol

I was going to buy it but I don’t color treat my hair so I was like mmm would it matter!? everyone keeps raving about it smelling nice! 😀

Typically the ingredients in the color treated hair formula are the exact a same as any other formula, they just put that on the bottle to get people to buy it. There isn’t a shampoo/conditioner out there that actually has ingredients that will keep color. The main reasons hair color fades is due to water, over washing, heat styling, and the sun.

In my experience, I find the biggest color-fading culprit is sulfates. I wash my hair every day and once I switched to sulfate-free shampoos, my color held great, even when using demi permanent color. I agree that standard shampoos made for color treated hair are gimmicky, unless the shampoo is tinted (like a purple or blue shampoo for keeping brass out of ash tones).

Why do these all have silicones in them??? *wail!* I guess I’m sticking with the cheap-o Suave conditioners-as-cleansers for now.

BTW – Pantene is heavy handed with the ‘cones, so it doesn’t surprise me that they recommend clarifying every few days.

Meh at build up. Thanks for the review. I think I’ll be skipping this.

What is the point of loading a cleansing conditioner with silicones that will need to be washed out with clarifying shampoo?

This is not going to repair damage, it’s just going to smooth it over and hide it with dimethicone.

I’ll stick with L’oreal EverCreme and As I Am Coconut COwash.

Sadly Pantene is tested on animals whereas Wen isn’t. I will always pay more if necessary to avoid supporters of animal suffering.

The smell reminds me of the medicinal scent of head & shoulders and if you are pregnant, forget it.

I also prefer herbal essences. HE has a better scent where pantene smelled aweful, it also left a film and felt like my hair was not clean. I think they state to still use shampoo because they still want you to buy their other products.

I didn’t find any of the issues other people did. I like the smell, didn’t notice any build up (at one point I went 3 weeks without regular shampoo), and felt that my hair was clean. However, after some time, I have noticed that my bleached hair seems to be much shorter and wispier on the one side where I concentrate the bulk of my heat straightening (and always have). Did anyone else notice this? Maybe my hair has always been like this and I just didn’t notice before? Or is the additive in the conditioner that cleans the hair, combined with bleach and my straightener breaking off my hair? I really liked this product!

Isabella is cleansing condition good for someone with fine hair?? I have fine hair with partial highlights which turns oily 2 days after washing b/c I have little dandruff also. Can I use cleansing conditioner or should I stick to regular shampoo for color treated hair???

I just started using Pantene’s Cleansing Conditioner and i personally LOVE it. I have had long hair my whole life (almost 33 years!!!yikes!!!) and i have tried literally almost every shampoo and conditioner you could name off. I have used the dollar store stuff and the $68 for a 12oz bottle of shampoo stuff and they are all (pretty much) the same!

i have a friend that has been raving about how awesome WEN shampoo is and i’m all “i don’t wanna have to order something super expensive and not be absolutely sure that i’ll love it first” so when i saw the Pantene cleansing conditioner stuff i was all like: “hey i’ll give this stuff a try” cause it looks like a knock-off of WEN. imagine my surprise when i actually did like it… in fact i love the stuff! right now it’s on sale at safeway for $3.33 for a 16.9oz bottle and and that’s like crazy cheap for me cause I ALWAYS NEED TO USE CONDITIONER and with this PANTENE c.c. i don’t have to use it at all!!!! so that is saving me approx $20 – $30 a month at least on conditioner!!!

I admit the smell could use some improvement but to be honest i’ve tried stuff that cost WAAAAY more and smelled WAAAAY worse so figure “eh” its like nothing compared to the pros of this product. i am actively looking for this product at all my local drugstores to buy it up before they decide to either change the formula (and don’t get me started on that! why change something that is working perfectly fine!?!? i used to love herbal essences but now it just makes my hair a gummy mess)

i know everyones hair is different but i’m truly impressed because i have super oily scalp (i’m half vietnamese) and most shampoos just strip ALL the oils out of your hair and then you have to overcompensate by using a super strong conditioner…so it’s pretty neat to be able to use ONE product that washes my hair and conditions without putting my poor scalp of the daily stripping and smothering in conditioning products. my hair is also half bleached. the front 1/3 of my hair is bleached light/almost platinum blonde and rest of hair is (almost) natural color: dark reddish brown.

sorry about the long review but i hope this helps someone out there.
    Good luck.

I have been using Pantene cleansing conditioner, it leaves a build up. My hair is very fine and thin. With WEN it was wonderful. But I cant afford WEN right now. Pantene leaves my hair flat. Need something else. Any suggestions?

  • Jamie

Smell is a little weird but it has a minty cool smell… And when I have it on my head it feels like my head is kinda burning and cold at the same time?? Don’t like the feel of that.!
