Pixi Shea Butter Balm Review & Swatches

Pixi Shea Butter Balm

Pixi Shea Butter Balm ($8) is a new tinted lip balm that the brand introduced for Spring 2014 in six shades.

These tinted balms are loaded up with nourishing, hydrating shea as well as Vitamin E to protect and moisturize lips.

Take a look!

Pixi Beauty Shea Butter Balm

The packaging of Pixi Shea Butter Balm remind me of those old candy lipsticks. I remember absolutely adoring them when I was a child. I guess even than I was a bit of a beauty junkie. Each balm features a color cap representing its shade as well as Pixi Beauty’s traditional light green accents.

The balms have a flat top which I am absolutely love. I really like a flat top for application on balms as it just makes application so much easier in my humblest.

I find the formula heavier and more moisturizing that Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment with around the same amount of pigment maybe a little hint more. The formula is also heavier in consistency than Maybelline Baby Lips and considerably more pigmented as I only get a hint of tint from Baby Lips where as Pixi Shea Butter Balm offers fairly opaque color. The texture is also heavier than Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm and also more pigmented.

They are noticeable on lips and aren’t exactly weightless but they do feel quite soothing, soft, and highly moisturizing especially when comparing them to products like Chapstick. I think the pigment on them also rivals many other balms I own as these do provide excellent full color on lips with a single application and they really pop if you build them. They do have a faint sort of sweet vanilla flavor and taste. It didn’t seem too strong to me but sensitive users might not love it! Wear time of course isn’t something I typically discuss as lip balm is something I chronically apply and reapply as the day progresses. Color does last fairly long at around two to three hours without eating or drinking. My lips also feel very soft through the wear and well after the balm has worn away.

Of course, if you dislike color they also offer a simple transparent version. This is particularly nice if you like to apply prior to going to sleep at night.

If you’re a bit strapped for cash and can’t afford more expensive options like Fresh Lip Treatment I’d definitely recommending picking these up. Plus they are equally nice for those who just want a bit of tint in a softening, hydrating lip balm. They aren’t a lightweight product and do have a fairly balmy texture on lips but in the long run they allow lips to remain soft and smooth.

Pixi Shea Butter Balm are available now at Target as well as online at www.pixibeauty.com.

I have been waiting for someone to review Pixi’s Spring 2014 line. I hope you review some of there other new products, like the H2O Skintint and the Cheek Tint (or whatever it’s called). When I first saw these products, I thought that they looked like the candy lipsticks too.

Thank you so much for this review! I’ve been coveting the Fresh balms, but my wallet has kept me in check. I’ll definitely be giving these a try.

  • auroragyps

Wow, those look fantastic. I’ll have to add these to my Wish List.

I will say this about the Fresh lip balms (of which I have the free birthday minis from last year), I do LOVE the packaging with the metal tube that screw closed. If you have problems with lip balms losing caps or getting roughed up, those are a sturdy option. They should make a “man friendly” one for guys.

Ooooo, you are tempting me to get these, especially Natural Rose!! They’re such pretty colors on you!!

  • Jen

Thanks for reviewing these. I love this brand, and am kind of looking for excuses to try out more since I fell in love with their eyeliner. These look cute. I am lipstick-phobic so I need to pretend that it is just a balm to get so much color on my lips!

  • Katmary

Ooh, these are so pretty! I like all but one color and have never tried them before. The good thing reading about them being so nourishing is even if the color isn’t good on me like the Baby Lips I bought, it can be worn to bed. I haven’t tried this brand, but need to make a Target trip as I have a gift card from Christmas to blow. Girlfriend, you look good in almost all lip colors, I’m so jealous!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Katmary you’re sweet 🙂 if you try let me know what you think!

  • Gina

Those colors are gorgeous, especially on you, especially natural rose! And of course, when I made my plan to check the stock at Target, they are not available in-store. And of course, they aren’t available to be shipped to store! Because I am anti-waiting for things to come in the mail, I hope they eventually get them in stores. Because they are too pretty not to own one!

  • Ashley

  • morgane

i so badly want to try these but i have been to 3 targets and no one has them 🙁

  • Gillie

I’m late to the party having just received one in my Birchbox for may. And instantly I fell in love thinking I like them more than my Fresh lip treatments. I had a staining effect from the bright pink one I received but a nice stain that didn’t look dry after it stained either. After seeing your swatches, I went online and found a set of four at Birchbox for only $28 which I ordered with my discount code too. I always enjoy ur reviews and appreciate the swatches- as I learn more about the product and get the idea if colors so well!

My sister just bought me “natural rose” which is my first Pixi product and I absolutely love it! The color, smell, and packaging is perfect, can’t wait to get some more!!
