Pixi Shea Butter Balm Review & Swatches
Pixi Shea Butter Balm ($8) is a new tinted lip balm that the brand introduced for Spring 2014 in six shades.
These tinted balms are loaded up with nourishing, hydrating shea as well as Vitamin E to protect and moisturize lips.
Take a look!
The packaging of Pixi Shea Butter Balm remind me of those old candy lipsticks. I remember absolutely adoring them when I was a child. I guess even than I was a bit of a beauty junkie. Each balm features a color cap representing its shade as well as Pixi Beauty’s traditional light green accents.
The balms have a flat top which I am absolutely love. I really like a flat top for application on balms as it just makes application so much easier in my humblest.
I find the formula heavier and more moisturizing that Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment with around the same amount of pigment maybe a little hint more. The formula is also heavier in consistency than Maybelline Baby Lips and considerably more pigmented as I only get a hint of tint from Baby Lips where as Pixi Shea Butter Balm offers fairly opaque color. The texture is also heavier than Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm and also more pigmented.
They are noticeable on lips and aren’t exactly weightless but they do feel quite soothing, soft, and highly moisturizing especially when comparing them to products like Chapstick. I think the pigment on them also rivals many other balms I own as these do provide excellent full color on lips with a single application and they really pop if you build them. They do have a faint sort of sweet vanilla flavor and taste. It didn’t seem too strong to me but sensitive users might not love it! Wear time of course isn’t something I typically discuss as lip balm is something I chronically apply and reapply as the day progresses. Color does last fairly long at around two to three hours without eating or drinking. My lips also feel very soft through the wear and well after the balm has worn away.

Of course, if you dislike color they also offer a simple transparent version. This is particularly nice if you like to apply prior to going to sleep at night.
If you’re a bit strapped for cash and can’t afford more expensive options like Fresh Lip Treatment I’d definitely recommending picking these up. Plus they are equally nice for those who just want a bit of tint in a softening, hydrating lip balm. They aren’t a lightweight product and do have a fairly balmy texture on lips but in the long run they allow lips to remain soft and smooth.
