Smoky Look with Urban Decay Black Velvet

Urban Decay Black Velvet Eyeliner

For Summer 2014 Urban Decay launched a new 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet. This is a new matte blacker than black eye pencil that rivals the intensity of Urban Decay Perversion but with a more powdery consistency that blends out to a smoky finish.

I used it this morning it in a quick look this morning.

Take a look!

Perversion is actually my HG (holy grail) formula when it comes to the blackest most pigmented eyeliner around but the introduction of Urban Decay Black Velvet brings things to a new level. I think that Perversion is creamier but Black Velvet offers a better wear for oily lids as it is a fully matte finish. This also means you can blend it a lot easier than the creamier, glossier Perversion. If you want to use it all over your eyes as a base for another shadow you can do that or you can even apply it all over your lid and blend it away to create a panda eye effect.

After

Below I did a thicker line on my lash line and blended it out to a smoky finish using a makeup brush (you can also do so with a q-tip). I didn’t like the way Black Velvet dragged on my waterline so for waterlining I used Perversion as it has an easier glide where as Black Velvet tugged a bit in this area.

I def think Black Velvet will likely become a fan favorite especially if you wear smoky eye looks often as this pencil will become quite versatile to create many different looks.

Anyone order it?

Or even try it yet?

What sorts of looks do you have planned for it?

I don’t have any looks planned for it yet but I am very impatiently waiting for it to come to Ulta where my points are waiting to be spent! I have super oily skin and this sounds like it’ll end up being my HG black, though I have used and do like Perversion in the pencil and liquid.

I got a free deluxe sample of one with an order recently. I have not used it yet but I love the idea.

That liner looks amazing. I was looking forward to reading this post because you don’t usually post looks 🙂

aw thanks 🙂 not sure it’s that big a deal (post wise anyway) but I had a little fun with black velvet 😀

Gorgeous! I can’t wait to give it a try! Hoping it’ll make a smoky eye a little easier to achieve!

I love the intensity of your look. I think the liner really makes your eyes look bigger and brighter. Even the whites look whiter and I’m wondering if this black velvet has any blue in it at all- could be making the whites of your eyes brighter.

I cannot wait to get this pencil. I too will wait until Ulta gets it. I think it’s due in sometime in April so only a little more waiting.

Thanks SO MUCH for your review. 🙂
