Tarte Colored Clay Concealer and Finishing Powder Review & Swatches

Tarte Colored Clay Concealer Finishing Powder

I suspected Tarte Colored Clay Concealer and Finishing Powder is a retake on Tarte Dark Circle Defense and even though I disliked Dark Circle Defense I decided why not give this new formula a try out.

I’m a concealer h0r anyway so it’s most necessary for me to try any and all concealers! It’s my mission in life haha…

Let’s take a look!

Tarte Colored Clay Concealer and Finishing Powder

Tarte Colored Clay Concealer and Finishing Powder is actually quite handy as it includes not only the Colored Clay Concealer but a finishing powder as well a la Laura Mercier Undercover Pot! Not only do you get the concealer but it also comes with a full size Double-Ended Brush.

My main issue with Dark Circle Defense was the formula was a touch to thick and it kept creasing into my finer lines. I’d say Colored Clay Concealer is a touch different…the texture is thick, creamy yes, but it also has almost a clay-like feel to it. It’s not terribly emollient but it blends very well under eyes with tugging or being to try. I wouldn’t call it moisturizing but I wouldn’t call it dry either. It offers sheer to medium coverage depending how much you apply and creates a good flawless finish under eyes particularly when set with the powder.

Unfortunately it wears rather shortly for me. As the day progressed it creased into my finer lines…I was at around hour four before I noticed the creasing. You can gently tap under your eyes to clear up the creasing however, it also fades…at around hour six I felt like I wasn’t wearing concealer at all.

I loved the brush they included. Typically I wouldn’t use such a larger brush for concealer work but the slanted side has nice bushy bristles that blend the concealer to a picture perfect finish. Where as the other side is a smaller almost blush-size brush you can use to sweep the powder under your eyes. The powder is a simple transparent silica much like Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder which just sets the concealer and also brightens as well. Just be careful with the powder as it can easily be overdone.

Mmm so I’m kinda on the fence with this formula. It’s most definitely not the same formula as Dark Circle Defense so if you disliked that product no reason NOT to try this one as they are different. However, for me the shorter wear and creasing was a bit of a deal breaker.

It’s available at QVC.com.

lol, I’m the same, have to try every concealer, especially since my skin is so translucent that under my eyes in the socket, it can look bluish, I also must try every lipstick, gloss and mascara ;p

Dear Muse, I’m curious to know what, in your opinion, is the best loose powder on the market? I’m about to run out of my Versace loose powder — since Versace doesn’t even make cosmetics any more, you can tell how long I’ve had it.

I used to love Dior loose powder, as it had finely milled rice powder in it, but they stopped using the rice and that changed the formula so it wasn’t as good as it was before. Someone told me Shisedo was the only brand that still included rice powder in their loose powder. What are your thoughts please?

I’m the worst person to ask that question as I don’t use loose powder all that much 🙂 I have dry skin and rarely set with loose powder…! I use Clarins loose powder occasionally and Skinfood Buckwheat Loose Powder but I’m sincerely no expert on loose powders since I don’t use them often! Maybe someone else can reply with more info for you!? sorry! 🙁

After searching for years for a nice loose powder to set makeup, I came across Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder. It’s super smooth, and gives skin an airbrushed-like appearance. I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t love it!

Thanks so much, Allie. I’ll try it. Can I get this at Target, Sephora, or Ulta?

    Hi Muse!
I bought this and I know what you mean about it creasing under your eyes.

How would you say the Maracuja concealer is compared to this one?

Sigh. I’m still on the hunt for a good concealer. With my dark circles and fine lines and milia it’s difficult to get the coverage I want without the concealer looking dry and cakey. I’m going to use it up but I’ve pretty much given up on the NARS Creamy Concealer in Custard. I’m Asian but it doesn’t mean my skin is actually yellow, NARS! I’m still working on mixing two of the IT concealer shades and seeing how that works.

Please help me find suited concealer for my red acne marks plus I have an oily face and acidic too. I dont really know how to apply make up. I think concealer and foundation will do the tricks in concealing imperfections 😉 thanks in advance. Oh and im from philippines so i only have fewer brand options. 😔
