Urban Decay Gash Lipstick Review & Swatches

Urban Decay Gash Lipstick 5

Urban Decay Gash Lipstick ($22) only available for a limited time? What?! I need to stock up on several tubes of Urban Decay Gash Lipstick and if you haven’t already…Well, I suggest you do so soon before it disappears.

This beautiful shade is limited edition and available at urbandecay.com until it sells out, once it is gone, it is gone. Although I’ll keep hope alive that Gash returns as permanent at some point!

Urban Decay calls Gash a deep red with tonal shimmer. For me it’s more of a ruby red with very little shimmer or sparkle but with a nice high shine finish. The color is bright, fully opaque on a single application, creamy, easy to apply without tugging or dryness, and super lightweight.

I really love the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Collection but they seemed to go above and beyond with Gash. The formula feels creamy with a good deal of shine. I was relieved it didn’t migrate or feather and had a truly outstanding wear of around six hours before showing very minor wear (just a little loss of shine) on me at hour seven. It has a very easy to apply formula that doesn’t pull during application.

And of course, the color…wow! It’s just so a stunning red that should work across a very wide range of skin tones. It’s daring but not clowny, bold and vivid but not scary…No wonder why Urban Decay creator, Wende Zomnir, calls it a shade she couldn’t live without.

I rarely recommend backups myself as I’ve reached a point in my makeup life that I really can’t afford to have backups hanging around because I have SO MUCH makeup to get through. But I’m pretty sure Urban Decay Gash Lipstick is one of those rare products that you’ll need to grab a backup or two of.

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. mmm more a ruby? a little brick to it? there’s def warmth here…not clown-y blue based red ;D

  • Quinctia

Their announcement that this was coming out made me pull out my tube from the last formulation…that one has noticeable shimmer, and I loved that formula, so I think I still like the old version better!

One thing I like about the new formula is the staying power…but the old one was so nice and smooth.

Ah well, if they bring back Midnight Cowboy lipstick, I’m so there!

I have the original too and love it! When they changed the packaging and sent all the lippys to clearance ($5 ea.!) 5 found their way to me. Love UD!

  • nelle

I love that color deep red, it’s great on you! But those vampy colors always make me look like a zombie 🙁

  • Erin

    Hi Muse,
That color looks amazing! Is it a blue undertone? Reason I ask is so I will have an idea of how my teeth will look. Thx!

    • Isabella Muse

it’s actually supposed to be cool toned but I don’t get that nor do I get blue from it, it’s quite warm on my tone Erin!

Well I guess waiting for Ulta to eventually get it is out of the question. I really wanted to swatch before I purchase but if it’s LE I guess I better order – wish I had a coupon code or something. UGH…

AND – just ’cause I’ve been on a tear this week, can someone please explain why “Urban Decay creator, Wende Zomnir, calls it a shade she couldn’t live without” but UD makes it LE?

I hate when companies lie to make a sale; it’s really getting tired. OR maybe I am. Oh well, have a great day.

    AT LEAST IT’S FINALLY SPRING!!!

    • Isabella Muse

no ulta 🙁 only on ud’s website unfortunately. LOL I know right?! maybe she has her own personal never ending stash hahha! Happy Spring!

Muse- I love your blog! you expose me to so many products lines. Some lines I current use, some I am unfamiliar with in the US. It is helpful to see how things translate on your complexion since I am fair-skinned as well. (although not as fair as you)! Something I have noticed for some time is your tendency to wear bright blush with bright/bold lips. I never notice you using products to add any warmth or contour to your face with bronzer etc. Is this your own personal asthetic or current trend in the UK? Thanks! Faithful avid reader!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Lisa! 🙂 so happy to hear it! I’m actually in the US, New York. I don’t think it’s a trend in the UK but I do like using bright blushes and bolder lips sometimes. I don’t really like bronzers or tanning, I’m not about staying as fair and bright as possible! I always feel I look duller when I use bronzer and I already have dull skin so no need to add more dullness. Perhaps some of my look comes from Asian trends with more of a doll-like cheek and whiter skin, it’s just a personal preference of how I like to wear my makeup though in the long run 🙂 thanks so much for reading Musings! really appreciate your readership and so glad you enjoy the site!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Isabella! I’m originally from New Orleans, but reside in Houston. My climate is forever humid so I am always grateful that you include how long products last! Cannot wait to see that Too faced palette swatched that you poated today! looks great! Thanks for the quick reply!!

  • Eraser

This was one of their original l/s shades way back when they started. It was supposedly their best seller but it disappeared over the years. Like the other poster, I’m tired of the LE gimmick – if it really is that great, keep it!

  • Sara

This is so beautiful it makes me so sad we probably can’t get our hands on it here in SG! Darn!! But it’s one stunning shade and looks great on you!

    • Isabella Muse

aw sorry sara 🙁 Hopefully you can try scoring it elsewhere! thank YOU!
