Urban Decay Heavy Metal Loose Glitter Review & Swatches
Urban Decay Heavy Metal Loose Glitter ($12) are a new loose glitter product that Urban Decay launched with their Summer 2014 Collection in six different shades.
If you love Urban Decay Heavy Metal Eyeliners this gives a different spin on the glittery goodness you get in those liners.
Take a look!
Along with Urban Decay Heavy Metal Loose Glitter the brand also released something called Bondage Weightless Makeup Adhesive to apply these with. I’ll review it in another post but I would like to say it would have been nicer if they upped the price on the loose glitter slightly and included a smaller size Bondage with the glitter. I know I won’t use Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter often and dislike the fact that if I do want to use it I’d have to buy two different products to make use out of the glitter. You can of course, use your own makeup adhesive (eyeshadow primer doesn’t really work so you need some sort of adhesive for the best placement) but honestly, I don’t really have one laying around so I’d have to buy Bondage or some other adhesive for the best wear.
After photographing and swatching these I felt down right abused. They are such a mess. You likely won’t have to go through the drama of swatching them but the packaging is a tiny jar with a sifter so even during application you’ll likely have a glitter on the highway, glitter on the front porch, and glitter on the mattress experience with these. It’s just explosive glitter everywhere.
Urban Decay recommends prepping with Bondage, patting onto your lid, and applying the glitter. It’s difficult to use a finger to apply as most of the glitter kept sticking on my finger so I ended up trying to apply with a q-tip. Needless to say there was a good deal of fall out. Bondage helps to keep the glitter on but the fall out can’t be avoided. You have to tap the glitter out onto the back of your hand for the best results I guess but again I ended up with it everywhere. You can remove the sifter as this might help to give you easier access to the contents of the jar but be careful you don’t spill it everywhere.
They are beautiful shades and the particles of glitter are larger pieces which are highly reflective when light hits them but unfortunately they are a mess to apply as is the case with most cosmetic glitter products. I noticed no warning about using these on your eyes however, it does mention in the instructions to be careful it doesn’t fall into eyes and to rinse with water if you do get it into your eyes. Sensitive eyes might find the chunky pieces irritating. I wore ACDC in the house for several hours to test…they do hold on lids well with Bondage without creasing however, I do find they flake off a bit so you will have to dust off a bit of glitter from under your eyes and cheeks as the day progresses. I imagine in a hot environment like a club where you might be dancing you’ll likely have even more fall out. If you layer enough they don’t really fade or crease it’s just the fall out that’s a problem as it’s unavoidable no matter what adhesive you use that you’re going to experience fall out at some point.

I think I like the idea of Urban Decay Heavy Metal Loose Glitter more than the product. It’s difficult for me to say that I’ll likely make use of a product like this daily. I’d say it’s reserved for cosplay, parties, clubbing perhaps…and even than it seems like A LOT of glitter and lord knows I love me some sparkle but this is too much for me.
Some people will adore I’m sure but I just find them a little too challenging to use and to work in everyday looks. These are more reserved for special occasions.
