Urban Decay Perversion, Black Velvet, Zero Comparisons
I thought I’d do Urban Decay Perversion, Black Velvet, Zero comparisons for those curious about the newest 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil Eyeliner that Urban Decay released for Summer 2014.
Urban Decay Black Velvet 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil is a new, permanent matte finish which joins the brand’s range of blacker than black eyeliners.
Here’s how comparisons of all three shades!
Urban Decay Perversion 24/7 Glide On Pencil for me is a glossy finish although it has been referred to as matte. This is very creamy, very slick, and glides onto eyes without tugging. On my drier eyes it wears all day without fading, migrating, or smearing. The color has a far easier to use texture when compared to the newer, drier, and matte Urban Decay Black Velvet 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil. It also works beautifully on the waterline where as Black Velvet I had a bit of an issue rimming. This is an excellently pigmented eyeliner with an easy glide and a creamy texture.
Urban Decay Zero 24/7 Glide on Pencil is a semi-matte but I find it duller when compared to the ink jet pigment of both Perversion and Black Velvet. I find it tugs a little bit during application and isn’t as creamy as Perversion and I have a single pass doesn’t give me a fully opaque line.

Now with the introduction of Urban Decay Black Velvet Glide On Pencil you get a fully matte finish eye pencil with an intensely black color pay off. This is the pencil you’ll want if you have oily eyes as it is a good deal denser, less slick, less creamy, and far more matte than Perversion. It’s also the eyeliner you’ll want if you like to smoke out your eye pencil! For me Perversion does smoke out nicely but it has a bit of a smear-y effect! The drier finish of Black Velvet gives you a better texture to achieve smokiness. Like Perversion is does have an intense blacker than black pigment.
For me Urban Decay Black Velvet and Perversion are spot on dupes for each other swatched side by side. It’s really just the texture and finish of the eyeliners that differs. Do you need them both? Yes, I do believe you need them both especially if you do a lot of smoke work on your eyes as Black Velvet is the more friendlier eyeliner to do this work. However, I think for cat eyes or just basic lining and waterlining Perversion is a good tool. One thing about Black Velvet is it does create very nice even, smooth lines but I disliked how it performed on my waterline! Color wasn’t as intense as Perversion and it sorta had a dragging consistency. You have to remember Black Velvet has more of a powdery texture and combined with the wetness on your waterline it’ll of course, have a weaker performance in this area.
As for Zero?
It feels a thing of the pass and not something I’d likely miss if UD decided to dump it completely. But if you just want a basic eyeliner with a little less pigment than Perversion and Black Velvet this is the shade to go with. It’s a bit duller compared to the two (even though it does swatch quite pigmented) shades so it’s good for day looks if you don’t want bolder, dramatic black eyeliner.
None the less all three shades are excellent to have in your eyeliner arsenal!
