Vampy Lips for Spring

vampy lips

How about a vampy lip look for Spring? Ya? Nay? Vampy lips seem to always crawl back into our lives around Fall but I keep seeing quite a few richer berry shades and even black colors that are popping up for Spring. Hell, look at Urban Decay Gash! I’d never wear this bright a red in Spring but lord knows I’m smitten with the shade!

Wait, is this a thing now?

Can’t be!

Recently Smashbox introduced a new Be Legendary Lipgloss and wouldn’t you know it one of the shades is a sparkling black! It’s called Black Tied (oooo MAC is gonna be pissed you stole their name) and is a sheer black shade with multi tone shimmer. This will make a nice overcoat on red lipsticks to vamp things up and believe it or not it’ll probably look quite alright all its own as the natural pink or red of your lips will give it a bit of a purpley look so not all black!

Givenchy also has a new Magic Lipstick that looks black, but it isn’t..this is a new customizable lipstick that changes to a bitten blackened berry on lips reacting with your quote skin pH unquote to create that custom shade.

These are both odd releases for Spring and probably would be better suited for Fall. I know I’m embracing more of a nude lip look for Spring this year but typically I really like lighter, natural pinks the kind you’d get from products like Tarte Skintuitive Lip Tint. Just something natural and fresh!

Do you rock hard lips in the Spring?

Vampy ones?

Yay or nay on blackened berries and possible black lipstick or gloss for Spring looks?

Do share!

I have two black lip glosses; UD’s Perversion & Kat Von D’s Gunshine. I like them both, because they give my lips a dusky, kind of mauve color and they both have a lot of multi colored sparkle in them too. I like to wear them when I want to feel a bit bad & tough, which can be any time of year, but they’re really pretty tame colors, except for when you see them in the tube. I’m much too pale to pull of a black lipstick, but the right shade of shimmery gunmetal or grey might work for me.

Hey Muse, I head that PH stuff doesn’t really work. This is a good article:
BTW I’ve been loving these picture-diagram-thingys that you’ve been posting lately.

And I wouldn’t wear vampy lips in the spring. I’ve been wearing them(well to me purple lipstick)all winter so it’s time for a change.

hi ling yeah I know…I think I’ve established that in a buncha reviews I’ve done on customized blush/lip balm/lipgloss/lipstain 🙂 virtually everyone comes out of the customized makeup product world with the same shade which is typically fuchsia hahaha! which article are you pointing to? aw happy to hear it! something a little different 🙂

Whoops, I guess I didn’t notice. I posted the link but since it’s from a different blog I guess it’s not allowed. I can send it to you in an email if you want.

We only have 2 seasons in tropical Philippines so those vampy, almost blackish colors would be a nay 😌 right now it’s almost summer here with the sun coming out in all it’s glory and to wear a dark lip would just seem so out of place, like wearing an all black outfit to the beach. Bright pinks and corals and oranges would be perfect though I think 🙂 and yes I agree with Ling, I’m loving your short articles 🙂

Whoops, guess I didn’t notice. I put the link in my comment but I’m guessing you don’t allow links from other blogs. I can send it to you by email if you want.

I think it was last year or the year before that NARS came out with a burgundy lipstick and blush. I purchased them both and they are really nice – can’t remember the names. I think seduction was the blush? and dressed to kill the lip? oh well…

I think they can be cool depending on what you do with the rest of your face. I’m interested in trying the SB black gloss – I hope they have it at Ulta so I can swatch.

Color changing products can be weird. IT cosmetics makes lipgloss stains and on my friend, no matter what color she picks, it ends up bright pink. LOL Sometimes I think it has to do with how dry your skin is? Not sure about that one.

LOVE vampy, wear it year-round. Super excited to see the Lorde collection from MAC, as she’s my vampy-lip muse (though I’ve been doing it longer, i.e. Chanel Vamp circa 1980s). Current rotation is Tom Ford Bruised Plum and Wet/Wild Cherry Bomb… I’m also the Queen of the Haute/Low, LOL!

I’d wear dark red or dark purple lips but wouldn’t go with black lipstick anymore. I used to back in my high school and uni days but feel it’d look too harsh on me now.
