Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer For Under Eye Review & Swatches

Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer For Under Eye

Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer For Under Eye is an exciting new concealer that launched recently to the permanent Laura Mercier Collection.

Available in twelve shades the new Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer For Under Eye not only acts as a concealer but has a soothing formula that features honey and vitamin E. Apparently it acts to brighten dark circles while depuffing and offering coverage as well as protecting against environmental stressors.

I was excited that Laura decided to launch a new concealer because she already has an extensive collection of excellent concealers that already work well. So a new addition that offered even more coverage was terribly appealing.

Unfortunately Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer For Under Eye is horribly dry. This is a super thick textured concealer that I had a heck of a time squeezing out of the tube! I imagine oily eyes might just find this consistency a hit but under my drier eyes it creates an absolute mess.

I felt like the formula might have gone off for some reason as it seemed like a product that maybe I had forgotten to put the cap on, left out for the night, and it hardened. I have to put a lot of pressure on the tube to squeeze a very small amount out. It wasn’t a fluke though as I purchased three shades and all three shades had the same dense, dry formula. It does indeed have a fairly great pigmentation however, it’s so dry that it proves impossible for me to apply correctly. I tugged quite a bit while applying this! I tried thinning it out with a concealer brush and this helps a little bit but even during the blending process I found myself tugging to get it into place correctly. The matte finish doesn’t crease once I got it applied but it does look rather cakey under my drier eyes. If you have aging eyes, finer lines, or heavy lines it’s going to be pure trouble to apply correctly or even wear for that matter as it ages eyes a fair bit due to the thickness of the formula.

I was shocked to say the least as Laura Mercier has excelled at creating some excellent concealer. Yes, it’s highly pigmented and great coverage however, this is a poor design for the under eye area. Oily eyes with absolutely no lines might find the texture agreeable although I even question that. A majority of us are going to find this is hard to blend, feel it looks cakey, and just doesn’t have any great benefits aside from the full coverage it offers but full coverage shouldn’t mean we have to settle for a dry, dense, cakey formula.

This one is a sad skip.

Sorry Laura Mercier! Love your concealers but High Coverage Concealer for Under Eye is the type of product I have nightmares about.

Agreed. I could barely get it out of the tube, much less blend it. I was very surprised at something of this quality from Mercier. The search continues for my raccoon eyes!

Didn’t it feel like you had opened it and left it open for the night by mistake? I thought it was a fluke but I purchased three shades and all three were the same. An LM rep on fb just commented you need a lot of prepping and that it works great so long as you prep but man I am anal about under eye prep so I def do plenty of moisturizer and even eye serum prior to any concealer application and it still proved hard to blend. I just can’t believe it.

Yes, I always prep well, too, by necessity. It really was like a joke….I had to use two hands to get some out of the tube, blended it on my hand first to try to warm it up, and even then it was a total fail under eye. Still can’t believe Mercier came out with something like this. I wish It cosmetics had a shade that suited me!

i know I said it before but I honestly thought it was a total fluke that I couldn’t get it out of the tube! But I tried two other shades I purchased, SAME problem so that is just def how the formula is. Me either…her concealers are legendary I’m shocked they launched this! Especially since her line is more of a mature line so you’d think she’d cater to a more mater, drier eye! this is SO NOT for drier, lined eyes!

I wonder if she’s as hands on anymore. Can’t believe this would pass under her eye. Like you said, they’re all about skin, all ages, excellent camouflage, high quality. That’s one thing about Bobbi…I may not like all her products but she seems to be totally involved with each launch.

          • Isabella Muse

I love Bobbi 🙂 I can’t help it I’m such a fangirl of hers! I don’t love her prices lately though haha…! But yeah I agree…I think maybe it was marketed towards oily skin? but even oily skin will likely have a bit of an issue with this one 🙁

wow shade 1 is shocking…i actually cringed when I saw the swatch! I can only imagine the dry, sickly, reverse-racoon eye look that would give me! thanks for saving me the money!

I was all over this when it came out. It is a mess to use directly under the eyes, but I have a tear trough deformity that needs extra coverage above what the secret concealer provides. I would say it covers slightly better in that regards.

    Thanks Iz,
I know you are always welcoming of a fabulous under eye concealer. They sent me the release to sample. I think I will skip. Till flitting between my Amazing Concealer, MAC, Tarte with Marula oil and IT. I often highlight with the PHysicians Formula Highlighter I learned about from you 😉

my pleasure debbi! I was impatient! 🙂 I got the release well after I had purchased these. I couldn’t wait 😀 Yay! glad you’re liking that little pen. After you try the sample let me know what you think curious minds!

Thanks so much for your honest review, that’s one of the many reasons why we all love your site so much.

I almost ordered some of this and now that I read your review I am SO glad I didn’t! Dry and sticky under the eye area with delicate skin is never a good combination in my opinion.
I actually am happy with the It Bye Bye Under Eye concealer in the double ended tube; I have for it in the fair shade and it seems to be much easier for me to apply and if I am in a hurry I can get it to look good with just my fingers now! 😀

    • Isabella Muse

Nicole I adore the Bye Bye Concealer 😀 def HG material 😀

For years I used the LM Secret Camouflage by taking some product and mixing a small amount of moisturizer on the back of my hand until I achieved the desired consistency. Perhaps this product requires similar assistance to be used in more delicate/drier areas. Thanks for the review!
