Maybelline Pop of Poppy Color Whisper Review & Swatches

Maybelline Pop of Poppy Color Whisper1

Maybelline Pop of Poppy Color Whisper is one of two new, limited edition Color Whisper Lipstick shades that launched with the Maybelline Bleached Neons Summer 2014 Collection.

Let’s take a look!

Maybelline Pop of Poppy Color Whisper is slightly misleading as this color is anything but poppy! This is a pretty candy medium toned pink, I’d go so far as to call it a rosy pink! The shade is pretty in the tube but a little more muted and natural on lips.

Some folks have described the Color Whisper line as slightly gritty and I haven’t experienced that really for myself but Pop of Poppy actually proves this is a very real thing. This has a very slightly odd texture! I wouldn’t call it gritty but it does feel rougher compared to past shades I’ve tried, own, and love. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it still applies beautifully without tugging but you can feel some of that roughness during application.

The color runs sheerer but it’s enough to create a very pretty pink on lips that’s wearable and natural. I find it moisturizing with a certain slickness and an easy, weightless wear on lips with absolutely no fragrance or flavor. I’ve likened the Color Whisper formula to Japanese brand lipsticks from brands like Aube, Maquillage, and Coffret D’Or. They have such a lovely soft, melty consistency when applied.

If you’re a fan of the Color Whisper Collection I’m sure Pop of Poppy will be on your wish list. It does have a little hiccup of two with the formula but still manages to create a lovely, natural Summer pink lip look!

Likey!

It’s available now for a limited time at drugstores.

I purchased this item.

Love this color on you! Do you telling what blush you paired this with? It looks amazing.

I just picked this up today and Bed Bath and Beyond and totally agree with you- not poppy at all! Still like it though. Would have picked up the peach one but it was a mangled mess.

My comments keep getting deleted. Did I do something wrong? 🙁

I only have one comment from you alicia, this one, I’m not seeing any others.

Pretty. Now I want this and the other peach shade from the LE release! (I agree with Alicia: That blush is lovely.)

Hmm…I think my phone must hate me. Sorry for the confusion. Love your makeup looks though.

Where did you find this at? Seems like the LE collections never reach my area (Rural Indiana)… it’s so frustrating so I resort to buying them on eBay usually. I have every single color whisper that’s has been released so I know I’ll be buying these 2 as well! 🙂

i actually didn’t yet! My friend found the bleached neons at Harmons but I didn’t see it as of yet so he picked up the collection for me!

I found this lovely color at Big Lots for just $1.50 and I found it to be very lovely and not at all gritty. It goes on very smoothly for me, but I have no other Color Whisper to compare it to so it could very well be less smooth than the others. I’m not sure why they call this color ‘poppy’ anything because it’s more of a light bubblegum pink. I don’t usually like pink lippies on me because I have some redness in my face and I always feel as though pinks bring out the redness, but this color is lovely on me – if I do say so myself.
Thank you for the review, Miss Muse. 🙂
