NYX Angel Veil Review & Swatches

NYX Angel Veil

NYX Angel Veil ($16) is new skin perfecting primer that NYX just released with their Spring 2014 Collection. I was a little shocked that Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer was so highly priced as hey, the brand is known for their great, budget friendly products.

Near $20 for a 1 oz tube of facial primer is toeing the mid-range line of pricing. However, I loved it so much I’m willing to overlook the price especially considering you can get it at a discount at Ulta or Cherry Culture many times.

Let’s take a look!

NYX Angel Veil is a soft, silky silicone primer. I’d like the texture to a lighter version of Too Faced Primed & Poreless.

I typically dislike silicone primers but I found this very soft and comfortable. It was easy to wear without making me itchy as many silicone primers are. I think the really nice thing about Angel Veil is not only does it blur the look of pores and prep for makeup but it gives skin a slight brightening effect! Some might feel this is a white cast, it really depends on your skin tone in my experience as it’ll likely work best on fair and medium fair skin tones but might look a little pasty on deeper skin tones. I liked it! It photographs well and it gives my duller skin a brighter look. It also has a fresh, subtle scent.

It does feel slightly slick at first application but didn’t produce shine or oil through the day. I wouldn’t say it extended the wear of my foundation or makeup as that seemed to have the same wear time whether I was or wasn’t wearing this under it. It does create a nice base for foundation and blurs the visible smaller pores around my nose while reducing the small bit of shine on my forehead. I don’t think it’ll work great to mattify super oily skin but will do well for those with combination skin that have a bit of shine.

NYX Angel Veil is an interesting product. For me the key selling point was the fact it brightened as it prepped! I really liked that this gave my duller skin and a nice brighter look. Those purchasing it to blur pores and mattify might feel it doesn’t do the job well in the case I’d recommend it for anyone with smaller pores and less shine to combat.

I bought this during Nyx’s recent sale. I’ve used it a few times so far and I love it!

How does this compare to hourglass’ mineral veil? I currently use that and I like it.

I tried the tester at Ulta yesterday and it seemed to have a powdery type of lotiony formula and consistency. I didn’t purchase it and I’m not sure if I will. I also don’t a NYX facial primer in my collection and I’m thinking I should get the NYX Pore Filler as my first one.
