NYX Baked Blush Review & Swatches

nyx baked blush

So I tried the NYX Baked Eyeshadows and now I’m off to the races with NYX Baked Blush today! I personally loved baked products so I was excited NYX decided that Spring 2014 was going to be a little about Baked products.

Yay!

However, I was disappointed with the shadows so I braced myself for the blushes…

Here are my thoughts!

NYX Baked Blush launched for Spring 2014 in twelve shades for $7 each. The shades I grabbed up are SUPER pretty but my first thought seeing them was, “uh oh they are going to be sheer!” They are actually are sheer, they swatch terribly, and the texture is rather dry….however, they actually apply nicer than you’d think.

NYX labels them as a blush, illuminator, and bronzer all in one. That’s partly true as although dry they do have a bit of a glow without looking sparkly or shimmery. I’m unsure about bronzer as none of the shades I tried are very bronze-y but I haven’t tried all the shades so perhaps one or two colors can double up as a bronzer.

Foreplay, Sugar Mama, Wanderlust

These have a slightly gritty texture with a glowing over spray which swipes away with a few uses (I showed before and after photos of Foreplay so you can see what I mean below). The finish is satin and they do have a touch of a luminosity on cheeks. At first application using the shade Wanderlust I was a little upset with the patchy application. My fault! I hadn’t prepped well and my drier skin just wasn’t jiving with the drier texture of the blush. Flash forward and I ended up using a moisturizing primer and a smaller brush during application. Yay! It worked! Smooth, evenly flushed cheeks! A kabuki is great as well for building color. Wear time was ok but I saw a good deal of fading at around six hours of wear.

Long story cut short…these aren’t the best textured baked blushes in the world. If you want the best I’d recommend Laura Geller Blush n Brighten. However, since there are always sales on NYX I’d say try these! They are drier, they are sheerer, but the colors do look very pretty on skin! These aren’t the best baked blushes in the world but if you can snag them during a sale I’d say they might be worth checking out!

Anyone try them?

What was your experience like?

I purchased this item.

I bought a few of these-Foreplay, Ladylike, and Pink Fetish-and I’m still trying to play around with them but I’m disappointed. The color payoff for me isn’t great and they are difficult to build without getting insanely shimmery. I think the whole “baked” concept may have been lost on everyone except Laura Geller.

    • Isabella Muse

i didn’t get the shimmer factor, on top there’s an unusual over spray once you wipe it away there isn’t a ton of shimmer! try swiping that off 🙂 but yeah, Laura Geller is def the baked go to! 😀

I have found a hard “shell” on the majority of baked cosmetics.

The easiest way to get through without too much fiddling around is to grab a kleenex and gently wipe the top of the product a few times & VOILA… no more hard exterior.

I read somewhere that the hard top on baked cosmetics is just part of the manufacturing process.

Muse, Happy Friday! I can’t. I simply can’t. You wanna know why? well, I’m gonna tell you anyway. LOL PACKAGING. Bulk central, not to mention the cheesy bow! I can’t! But they do look pretty on you, even if they aren’t the best, ya know? Have a great weekend! -Leslie

I thought the one I had (Chiffon) was awful at first try, but once I kind of scraped away the top layer, I really liked it! I apply it with my ELF Studio Blush Brush and it works well.

BTW, they look pretty on you!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks chica and happy to hear they worked for you ;-D

  • Helen

These look so pretty on you and look as if they give you a really good glow (but not too much) and the bows on the packaging are so cute!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks helen! 😀 I agree packaging is adorable 😀

I love Pink Fetish. It has a beautiful sheen. It is my favorite blush of the moment and I have a lot of blushes. I just ordered another.

The Milani baked blushes are awesome drugstore ones! I’ve been bringing out my good ol’ Coralista since it’s been warming up!

  • Kim

I took a piece of stiff thin plastic and scraped the top layer off and they are gorgeous- at least the permanent line ones are,

  • Alisha

I just purchased Wanderlust the other day! It looks gorgeous on you, Muse! I can’t wait to try it on myself, we have similar skintones.

  • Beepy

I really enjoy reading your reviews. Not intending to be rude, but why do you always wear a headband? Your readers would love to see your hair.

    • Isabella Muse

Thanks Beepy so glad you enjoy my blog! My hair is very long and very wavy so I like it out of my face when I’m working. Typically I do my photos in the early morning before I head to work so this is my “head to work” look as I really don’t want a ton of face in my hair all day! You can follow me on Instagram if you want more hair down, random, candid photos of my me! 🙂
