NYX Baked Shadow Review & Swatches
Available in over 30 shades the new NYX Baked Shadow for Spring 2014 are the cutest little eyeshadow I’ve come across recently. These remind me of little bon bons or chocolate! They come in a chunky square compact with a ribbon closure that’s simply adorable! They’ll probably be a bit of a pain to store due to the chunky square packaging but visually they remind me of some little chocolates!
So cute!
I think this is an exciting release for NYX who always has such great launches. The brand never does anything small with their releases…! The Baked Shadows come in a massive array of shades so really for a brand new product that’s quite a huge launch.
Take a look!
Well as cute as NYX Baked Shadows are I fear for the quality…!
I think a majority of people I come across on Musings dislike baked eyeshadow but I think maybe they aren’t trying good baked eyeshadows because there are SO many brands that make great formulas like Laura Geller for example. And I feel like if new users of a baked shadow try these they’ll think this is what using a baked shadow is like. And those that have tried baked shadows will think, “Oh just another horrible baked shadow formula!”
Sadness!
These actually can be used wet or dry and I tested them out both ways to see how they performed. Dry they are quite dense and very dry! It’s nearly impossible to pick any of the color up using a regular brush! I do suggest if you want to pack color on using a sponge tipped eyeshadow brush otherwise you’re really going to feel disappointed. Even wet I struggled with getting good coverage on my eye. The drier texture means they end up applying very sheer. For the best results I used them dry with an eyeshadow sponge applicator as this produced the best color pay off. I tested out pretty dark shades so I imagine the lighter colors will perform worst.

NYX Bittersweet Baked Shadow
Vortex and Bittersweet
They wear well on my drier lids without creasing but color fades at around four to five hours. They aren’t terribly intense to begin with so once they start fading they end up looking a bit muddy on my lids.
If you sheerer colors you might appreciate these…! But I think most users will likely be disappointed with the quality.
NYX Baked Shadows are visually very pretty but the quality and performance of the formula isn’t as lovely I fear. At $6 they are quite cheap but you can do better my friends!
