Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette Review & Swatches

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Nude Palette 2014

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette for Face & Eyes ($13.95) is a new take on Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip Eyeshadow Palette that launched in two shades for Spring 2014.

This palette houses twelve shades that can be used as an allover facial highlighter or used individually as eyeshadow. It’s an interesting concept but for me a bit of a mess to use.

The Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette comes housed in a cute lace fishnet covered chunky square compact with a magnetic closure. This is a dual compartment compact that contains the powder on top as well as two applicators (one for eyeshadow application and one for face application, a generously sized mirror, and diagram instructions for application that’s located in the lower compartment. There’s also a little ribbon on the front of the palette which gives it a cute girly look! If you already own the Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner Nude Palette this is basically the same exact packaging.

I love the packaging. They put some nice care and attention into it. Even though I dislike the brushes that Physicians Formula includes with their powders and blushes (ugh scratchy! And they shed!) I love that they included it along with an eyeshadow brush for applying the product plus the diagram is actually quite helping giving you points of where to apply the highlighter and shades on your eyes for the best finish!

I got the Natural Nude shade selection which is the lighter color available. This has rose golds, soft pinks, beiges, and bronze shades. The colors are truly pretty and they swatch with a slightly metallic finish.

On eyes I feel the colors apply with a frosty finish overload. They do have some fall out and they fade very quickly without primer on my drier eyes. They also tend to blend away sheerly so you have to build a fair bit. Colors don’t contrast well together so if you have plans to use two or three shades in a look you’ll find the blend together into a single color without offering any good contrast. They do have a super soft, buttery velvet texture that’s quite lovely however, they have major fall out on my cheeks and face when I apply. The nice part is they aren’t dense or dry nor are they chalky.

I don’t have larger pores however, I do have drier areas on my face so when I highlight with this I notice it clings to those areas. I imagine if you have larger pores it will accentuate them terribly. The frostiness gives my cheeks and face a disco-ball finish which isn’t terribly flattering unfortunately no matter how little I apply and no matter if I use a lighter fan brush to apply.

Unfortunately, the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette has a lovely texture but is a messy product to use. It’s just too much frost for me. The concept is a nice one but the reality of using this on cheeks and face isn’t as nice. I got mine at Harmons for a mere $5 (originally priced at $10 with $5 from a sticker coupon on the box). Look for the boxes that have a $5 off sticker coupon and you can score a nice deal if you are determined to give this a try!

How would you use a frosty texture as a contour?? I swear, some of the stuff they put on the market to lure in less practiced consumers. 9_9

I purchased this at CVS for 40% off on 12/19, around $7, in Warm Nude. They had two opened containers, the nude and the warm nude, I sampled both on the back of my had and the regular nude seemed a much cooler, 80s frost type of palette, so I went with the warm. It looks gorgeous as a highlighter, all mixed together. The darker colors leave a very believable bronzed kiss. The pinks though, bleh. Too cool, cakey, crease-y, frosty. Very 80s.

I like this for the price, but it’s not HG stuff. I was thinking to give my brush a swirl in some translucent powder, then just tap this into the mix, see if it’s a bit more subtle.

Another thing, this is a softly, very softly pressed powder. Barely touch it and it’s everywhere.

I wish I had read your review before buying this. I am so disappointed at this product, but unfortunately I can’t return it. It was a bit pricey too!

I just purchased this in Rite Aid and ended up getting the darker color. There’s a more pinkish one I got the natural. I truly love it! As blush it goes on so natural on my pale skin. I can use as contour or all over bronzer, eyeshadow. But I mostly love it as blush planning to get the pink one also but afraid it’ll be more of a highliter they are very light which I love! Love it! Love it!
The butter bronzer is soooo good also!
