Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara Review

Revlon Bold Lacquer mascara

Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara is a new Glow Luscious Mascara formula that recently launched for Spring 2014. This formula promises both length and volume with a lacquer film technology that provides intense color to lashes and a high shine according to Revlon.

Let’s take a look!

Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara 1

Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara ($5.99 at Harmons) is one if those very confusing mascaras that promises so much but delivers so very little.

Bold Lacquer implies, to me anyway, that this is a pigment rich mascara that not only gives lashes that smoky look but also maybe some glossiness as well. I mean that’s what I get from words like bold and lacquer. This isn’t a shiny mascara nor is it even a wet one, it’s quite dry which isn’t a bad thing but the name is slightly misleading. It’s not very pigmented either. I got the shade Blackest Black and it’s a very regular mascara, nothing bold or pigmented about it.

Revlon Bold Lacquer

It promises volume and length and it does ok with length but I don’t feel like my lashes look fuller after application. The brush is a simple straight line bushy brush that pulls lashes up and out. It does hold curl well because it is a lighter texture that isn’t goopey nor does it leave lashes crunchy or stiff. It didn’t smear or flake on my drier eyes and it removes super easily at the end of the night.

The weird part about Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara is the fact that it merely gives lashes a soft, fluttery, natural look with a bit of length contrary to its exciting name.

I’d chalk up Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara as another mascara that promises too much but delivers very little unfortunately. I wouldn’t call it a miss because this formula may be appealing to those who desire a natural, fluttery lash look but the name implies drama which unfortunately it has very little of.

Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara is available now at drugstores.

Thank you so much for the great review…I agree, Revlon always promises sooo much with their mascaras, but I find they ALL do the same thing lol…I’ve tried them all too. May pass on this one & just stick to my beloved Maybelline mascaras. Revlon does deliver with their lips tho, just not their lashes!!

    • Isabella Muse

agreed! Most revlon mascaras seem to perform the same exact way Jessica! I enjoy Maybelline as well 🙂 the new colossal formula they launched is pretty good!

  • JoElla

Well bummer. I really liked the Grow Lusious (sp?) formula, and was hoping this one would work well.

  • Tammie

Darn I was curious about this! But I can’t seem to beat Maybelline Soft & Full mascara, that ones amazing for me, HG status. I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but I am always curious haha

      • Tammie

Haha I dunno, I picked it up on a whim, it’s one of the ones that aren’t super fancy in packaging and hype but somehow it’s the one that performs best for me in every way. If you haven’t tried it, I definitely recommend it!

        • Isabella Muse

those are always the best ones, the quite no frills packaging ones 😀 thanks girl I will!

    • Isabella Muse

mmm I’d say the lash extender formula from Majolica Majorca is the way to go for the best curling mascara or at least the one that holds my curl the best 🙂

  • Kathleen

Lol! Soft and feathery is what I’ve been looking for! I thought I’d have to splurge on the new Clinique. I have never tried the Maybelline Soft & Full because the two Maybelline mascaras I have tried made my eyes itch. 🙁 Guess I’ll give this a try–thanks Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure kathleen let me know what you think if you do 😀

      • Kathleen

It doesn’t seem as soft as the Almay One Coat Thickening. Just looks like I used the original Grow Luscious. Or I just have mutant lashes. I have yet to find a mascara I love.

  • Susan K

Haven’t bothered with a Revlon mascara for over ten years. They’ve always stunk! They definitely rule the DS with lip products though.

  • Adrienne

Thanks so much for your review. I picked this up at Rite-Aid with their 40% off and I’m so glad I didn’t open it yet. I was wondering if it was a cross-redesign container of the overtime or the original grow luscious so it seems to be a flop regardless of what they call it. Back to the store it goes and as always,I appreciate the detailed review.

    • Isabella Muse

oh my pleasure adrienne! I fear it isn’t quite that great 🙁 maybe try the new maybelline mascara I recently reviewed, that was pretty good imho!

  • kellly

Thanks for the review. I was curious about this and almost bought one, but I’ve been disappointed with Revlon mascaras in the past, so I’m glad I didn’t waste my money. My favorite still is Essence I [Heart] Volume because I can never have too much volumizing blackness!

    • Isabella Muse

Kellly I think I tried I heart Volume now you’re making me shop my own stash 😀 have to remember if I liked it or not 😀

  • Jane

Well, huh! Optimistically, I bought it, tried and found it to be noticeably darker on my eyes (as though I’d tight-lined) and volumizing. such that I was very excited. I say “optimistically” because my eyes eat 90% of my makeup generally, so even with priming and powdering, this became a terrible mess about four hours in and I ended up taking out my contacts a few hours after that. Why do I keep doing this to myself?

  • carla

I bought it and the first coat…bleh. but then! I waited a little bit and put a second coat…getting better! Put on that magic third coat and BAM! I look like I have false lashes. I am a mascara fiend and thought I’d try this. I like falsie looking lashes, there’s nothing natural about the way I like my eye makeup. True, maybe not everyone has time to wait out three coats, but maybe for a special occasion, it’s well worth it.

I got a full-size tube of the Revlon Bold Laquer mascara in one of my beauty box samples this month, and was super excited to try it, but after reading these reviews….not so much! Not that I was looking for a new mascara, but trying new products is fun! Just for the record, in my opinion, Clinique’s Lash Doubling mascara is THE VERY BEST OUT THERE! I love everything about it, can’t find a single thing wrong with it, it’s reasonably priced, a tube lasts for quite a good amount of time, and, well…it’s Clinique, so you just know you are using a quality product!
