MAC Lorde Pure Heroine Lipstick Review & Swatches

MAC x Lorde Lipstick

MAC Pure Heroine Lipstick ($16) aka MAC Lorde Lipstick is a new, limited edition shade that will be launching with the MAC x Lorde Collection very, very soon (and likely will sell out just as quickly!).

On June 5th a select number of stores will launch the MAC Lorde Collection which features MAC Pure Heroine Lipstick a shade inspired by the singer Lorde. It’s a daring purple that should appeal to those who like a vampy or goth shade.

Take a look!

MAC Pure Heroine is described as deep plum with an amplified finish. Lately the amplified finish lipsticks have been quite forgivable and not nearly as dry or as matte as ones I’ve tried in the past. This has a balmy texture with a slight tackiness and a smooth, creamy consistency that looks almost glossy on lips.

It’s a vampy shade of plummy purple with a rich pigmentation that doesn’t quite translate as well to lips since it tends to drag on application. I feel like it is a shade you’ll want to apply gloss on top of so it’ll look smother as on its own it seems to fall into my natural lip lines and doesn’t quite look evenly applied. It applies fairly opaque but looks uneven due to the consistency of the formula so as I recommended gloss is the best way to get an even, more bolder finish. It wears for about four hours but it does tend to migrate on my drier lips and creeps up my lip line during that wear.

It does quite remind me of MAC Heroine Lipstick but has far more plum to it.

MAC Pure Heroine Lipstick is a daring shade! I’d have released it for Fall 2014 in all honesty as it might not be a shade you’ll commonly reach for in the Summer and it might gain more attention with a Fall release but none the less if you’re a Lorde fan or just love yourself some purple lipstick I’m sure you’ll adore this shade!

I would be into this if it were a matte, or at least an amplified finish. With dark lipsticks that glossy finish just seems to migrate around my mouth and I always feel like I’m going to have dark lipstick smeared all over my pale face. Meh.

    • Isabella Muse

it is an amplified finish malinda but isn’t matte unfortunately :-/

  • Maggie

Wow, that looks gorgeous on you! So sophisticated…and a bit sassy 🙂

Is there a list of the stores receiving this collection? I’m near a pro store, so I’m hoping that ups my chances!

  • Lucy

I love me some purple lipstick and Lorde. I will hopefully be able to order a tube!

  • meganlisa

It looks gorgeous on you. I didn’t expect that..clicking through I thought the color would be unwearable.. You look utterly lovely in it!

Since I scored the Goddess of the Sea lipstick and found it to be MLB awesomely much B shade, I’m all over MAC purples. This is going to be a must-have for me and I already have the release date marked on my calendar. Question is, should I take vacation time to make sure I’m right there at the MAC counter before they sell out?!?!!!

    • Isabella Muse

haha you might have to be! I picture it selling out stupid quick just bc lorde’s name is attached to it!

  • Joanna

Really pretty shade. Looks like a milani shade I have seeing before but can’t quite put my mind as to which.

  • Majick

Wow, in the tube it didn’t look that wearable. I didn’t expect to see it on your lips – I’m glad I did. VERY pretty!

  • Fancie

I really like the way it looks on you! I don’t think this lipstick is going to look like anything special on me though. I’m going to pass

    • Isabella Muse

girl are you kidding!? it would look amazing with your skin tone! way better on you than me!!!! 😀 it’ll pop!

  • Melissa f

That looks *really* good on you! It’s really just looks nice without standing out (not that standing out is bad – but I wouldn’t have noticed it first, it just looks good). But then I could wear gold or green and it would be cool for my job, so i might have a skewed perspective.
It’s a great color for you, and while the lack of opacity will stop me from buying it, now thinking about dupes…

    • Isabella Muse

thank you melissa you’re too kind! I’m a little scared of it 😀 I’m sure there are a ton of similar shades available 😀

  • Wendy

It looks GREAT on you, but holy cow I think it would make me look DEAD LOL

    • Isabella Muse

haha I felt like that when I took the pic Wendy! 😀

  • michaela

looks amazing on you! how do you think this compares to Revlon Shameless?

  • LaLa

It’s an in store exclusive at only three MAC stores in the world: Fifth Ave and Times Square NYC; and Champs Elysees in Paris…

I so wanted this. I was disappointed that none of my local MAC stores or counters were carrying the MAC Lorde Pure Heroine lipstick, plus I’ve never actually purchased from the MAC Cosmetics website. Lorde had said in some interview that she wanted to create a finish for most women. I quote: “The finish [of the lipstick] was important to me. I wanted people to be able to use it as a lipstick or press it on as a stain.” When I first heard Pure Heroine would be an Amplified Creme finish I was confused because based on Lorde’s fashion sense and the way we’ve always seen her wear her makeup you’d think she would have gone with a Satin or Matte finish for her own MAC lipstick. It just seemed more her style. Plus, Satin and Matte are also my very own favorite finishes. I also heard in some other interviews that Lorde mixed Heroine with Cyber to create the Pure Heroine color and had it made into an Amplified Creme finish. I don’t own Heroine or Cyber by MAC but I do own the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Shameless which is a great dupe for Heroine as far as I’m concerned. Pure Heroine seems to have this multidimensional plummy-ness to it whereas Heroine and Shameless are both pure, straight-up PURPLE. Nonetheless, I was still planning to purchase Pure Heroine anyway because the shade is gorgeous and I wanted my own Lorde lipstick!
