MAC Brings Maleficent to Life for Summer 2014

MAC Maleficent Collection

Ready for the MAC Maleficent Collection? MAC brings Maleficent to Life for Summer 2014 with a collection completely inspired by the evil diva herself, Maleficent!

Sometimes it’s fun being evil!

MAC Maleficent Makeup Collection

The limited edition MAC Maleficent Collection will launch at select MAC stores as well as Macys on May 15th and on maccosmetics.com. I’ll be the first to admit it isn’t exactly what I pictured. I didn’t expect nude shades of eyeshadow for Maleficent in all honesty! However, the blood red lips I can get a handle on. I don’t find the packaging particularly exciting either but that’s just my take on the collection.

After the Venomous Villians collection, this one is a let down for me. At least I won’t have to fight MAC collectors AND Disney collectors to get something.

I agree, nothing too exciting here. Speaking of Disney collections, do you know if Sephora is coming out with any more? I loved those!

Maleficient is my favorite Disney villain of all time, but this looks to be something I can pass on. What a bummer! At least I still have the movie to enjoy.

I’m not super impressed with the collection for the sake of the movie, but I do like that quad and I don’t have any of those colors… I tend to stay away from their LE quads because of the terrible reviews, but these are all permanent colors.. The lipstick is pretty too, but I don’t wear red often so I don’t really ‘need’ it. lol

I never have really indulged in MAC stuff aside from one eyeshadow, one paint pot and a compact foundation which doesn’t really match me. That being said I am rather drawn to the lip items and the blush. The other stuff not so much. I was sort of expecting other items like the good fairies and of course Aurora. It would have rounded out the collection more.

    • 5/1/14 12:48 Isabella Muse:

they are doing this as a tie in with the movie and fairies/Aurora aren’t really what inspired the collection that’s why you aren’t seeing anything too “cutesy” they wanted something dark and gritty inspired by the movie and Maleficent herself.

Very true! I didn’t expect cutesy either way though. I was looking at the aspect of dark versus light. When I get the chance to see this in person I’ll see what I think. I have one of those Macy’s Thanks for Sharing cards burning a hole in my pocket so if I like some of the items I might get them if not there is no loss :)

I’d be interested in the sculpting powder, but that’s about it, I think. Shockingly, I’m not too big on the lipstick; I’m sure it will be lovely but it looks too blue for me (maybe the swatches will change my mind, however).

I hope not blue! I like a little warmth in my reds!

This seems more like a Fall launch not a Spring/Summer launch. *confused*

It’s inspired by the movie so not so much about Spring/Summer theme but about the movie look which is supposed to be a dramatic, sultry look or at least that’s what I think they are going for.

Feeling a little disappointed with packaging design and color choices… how come there is no purple anything in a Maleficent collection? and the same wings/birds in all the products? After a long time waiting for this I’m feeling meh and don’t think I’ll buy any of it.

P.S.: and what’s with all the browns? if there is a color that does not occur to me when thinking about Maleficent it is brown, if they replaced all the browns with purples and greens it might have been nicer.

I was thinking the same, Maleficent was always a lot of drama with stunning purple, bright green and black. Brown has nothing to do with Maleficent at all. I don’t get it.

There are tons of nudes and brown palettes already, this was a great chance for them to do something bright and out there and they didn’t. Hell they could have even jumped on the neon trend with a neon green. Instead we get…brown.

Exactly! I’m not a big fan of neons, but even I can see it working with the Meleficent theme in way that would make me want to buy it.

You know who needs to do a Disney Villains collection? OCC! I think they’d know how to do it right.

Um. Underwhelmed. Where is the creativity? This is the same lack of creativity I’ve been seeing in all the promotional materials/trailers for the movie. Hopefully I’m proven wrong because Maleficent is a great character but I already started with an irrational anti-Angelina Jolie bias and this movie doesn’t look like it’ll make me a convert. And I still don’t care if there was an issue with the color of the original film. We all thing of her skin as green and her magic is green. Just make her green. We’re probably not getting a Wicked movie (tear) anyway.

Disappointed! I was definately expecting more vibrant colors. The red lipstick was a given, but I expected some jewel tone blues and greens. I mean come on, it’s Maleficent!

surprised on that quad….I love those colors & already have them except Goldmine!! at least I know that it’s not something I’d love to have that will be sold out at 12:01 a.m. on the day of release.

I really do love all the colors for this collection, but the packaging…I cannot with this packaging. It’s so bad.

As someone who LOVES Maleficent this is a huge bummer for me. Her traditional colors are black, purple, and green, where are those? Those are my favorite colors and would have been lusting after the whole collection if they’re stuck with that color scheme. Seriously what happened? What is with all the browns and nudes? That’s nothing like Maleficent at all!

Not impressed with this collection at all, but I loved the Venomous Villains Collection.

Do you know if it’s true that there is no purchase limit on the Maleficent Collection? That seems weird to me. If so, maybe it’s because they already know that it’s not going to do too well; that they don’t want to get stuck with a ton of unsold product. Maybe they are hoping that some people will buy an extra back up or two, thinking they need to get it right away before it is all gone when, in probability, it won’t be moving that fast at all. What are your thoughts?

    • 5/6/14 10:44 Isabella Muse:

I haven’t heard about the purchase limit to be honest so don’t really have an opinion on that….! I do think it’ll sell well none the less. I don’t love it but there are literally millions of disney fans and mac fans so I picture it selling out fast!
