Maybelline Jelly Glow Blush Review & Swatches

Maybelline Jello Glow Blushes

Recently I did a post about Maybelline Japan Products I Wish Were Available in the US and I realized that Maybelline Jelly Glow Blush was a product I mentioned in the post and I HAD!

Dontcha love shopping your own stash? These were buried in a pile of to be reviewed products and I had forgotten about them. This is probably going back nearly a year EEP!

So I dug around and I located the Maybelline Jelly Glow Blush and decided to see how they compare to the formula of the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush that released in the US. Technically speaking Jello Glow came first so it was a safe assumption that the formula released here to our market would be a dupe.

Maybelline Jello Glow Blush

Yup, Maybelline Jelly Glow Blush are just as disappointing as our Dream Bouncy Blushes! Even more so because they are SO tiny! These compacts are about the size of an eyeshadow. I technically don’t know how big they are because looks can be deceiving perhaps there’s a ton of blush in them but the size the actual compact size is absurdly small. At first I had that “Awww so cute” moment and that “Wow these will store so easily and travel just as easily!” but I realized the smaller size also prevented me from swirling a brush in the compact. Granted it isn’t impossible but it does kinda ruin your brush slightly when working in such a small well because as you swirl your brush bristles split a little bit due to the small space.

As I said in my review of our version, if nothing else, Maybelline Jelly Glow Blush is a fun product. They have a sponge-y texture with a clay-like consistency that does NOT bounce back to shape. I’d liken them to the texture of Chanel Illusion dOmbre Long-Wear Luminous Eyeshadows. You can press on them and sort of mold them like molding clay but they aren’t sponge so they won’t keep their form.

I actually complained about the size when these reached US shores and even spoke about how small the well was but really the Japanese version you see here is even smaller as I mentioned above. I feel forced to use my fingers to apply them. This isn’t a bad thing but if you’re a bit grossed out by dipping your fingers into product constantly it might be upsetting. I use a stippling brush to avoid this but unfortunately the pot is so small it’s hard to do so!

The blushes are gorgeous. They have an airbrushed finish that do not cling to drier areas or accentuate pores. They are pretty much foolproof to apply and cannot be overdone. They look natural and pretty but my disappointment stems from the pigment. I really wish they had a little more pigmentation. If you have darker or tanned skin they likely won’t show up very well!

The formula is very light and has a cream to powder finish that melts into skin. They do wear away very quickly! I can get about two hours in at best before they fade on me!

As with the Dream Bouncy Blush formula Jelly Glow Blush formula disappoint me. I wish they wore longer on me and just were a little more pigmented!

Oh well!

No reason to try Maybelline Jelly Glow Blush for yourself if you already own the Dream Bouncy formula but if you are curious they are a few dollars from E-bay seller AlphabeautyUK.

Do you like the Dream Bouncy Blush formula?

Every try the Jelly Blush one?

Do share!

I purchased this item.

LOL, I am imagining using Jello as blush. The packaging says “jelly” glow.

that’d be me being very tired or hungry!? sorry 🙂

Very disappointing because I hoped the asian version would be better. With the name “Jelly Glow”, I thought these might be similar to those Josie Maran coconut watercolor cheek gelee’s. Speaking of asian beauty (and beauty in general), do you have any suggestions for the makeup obsessed 20-something visiting NYC? I’ll be there next month and I want to hit up some unusual shops/beauty supply stores that carry asian products and/or indie brands in addition to visiting the usual MAC, NARS, etc.

I had hopes for these myself but suspected they’d be close to what we got in the US. Too bad 🙁 You should head to Flushing…there’s a face shop and a SLEW of beauty stores that carry Asian Makeup, beauty, etc…! 🙂
