Avon Haiku Kyoto Flower Review

Avon Haiku Kyoto Flower

I’m quite a big fan of Avon Haiku Perfume so when I heard about the new Avon Haiku Kyoto Flower Fragrance I leaped at the chance to buy it.

The original fragrance is a slightly spicy oriental floral that’s very unique and gorgeous. I know, you might be on the verge of curling your nose up at an Avon fragrance if you’re a perfume snob! I understand! But honestly if a snobby perfume connoisseur is bound to love something about Haiku!

So with much excitement I gave Avon Haiku Kyoto Flower Fragrance a try and…

Avon Haiku Kyoto Flower Perfume

It sadly didn’t recapture the magic of the original fragrance for me 🙁 This is a soft, flirty little floral with a dominate white peony note that’s wrapped in a soft cotton-y dry down. It’s clean, fresh, and I imagine some people will love it however, those who loved the spicy oriental element might be in for a shock because this is a considerably different fragrance.

I give them props for recreating the fragrance into something completely new and different. Too many brands (ahem Marc Jacobs) introduce new versions of a fragrance that smells almost identical to the original release and this can prove disappointing for someone expecting something new for their money!

But there’s also elements of disappointment when you place the original fragrance on such a high pedestal and expect its predecessor to be just as wonderful if not better.

I prefer spicy fragrances or sweet and fruity ones and Avon Haiku Kyoto Flower is more about being a soft, delicate floral fragrance with clean notes that I’m not fond of. For those that like subtle florals this will prove a lovely fragrance and ideal for Summer as it isn’t overpowering but it still has excellent throw and linger.

For those expecting the same or greater than the original Avon Haiku Fragrance, well, there’s a lot of room for disappointment.

This is available now at Avon.

I purchased this item.

The majority of my perfume collection is from Avon, I’m super picky about what scents I’ll wear (and honestly I love high end makeup but I don’t often find high end perfume I love so much) and it’s nice to know you like their stuff too. I used to wear haiku but don’t remember how much I liked it, but since I prefer lighter sweeter scents over spicy or oriental I probably would like this one. I haven’t kept up on Avon scents for at least 6 years now though! I’m so out of the loop.
A few of my favorites are Exotic Waters, Be Spontaneous, Summer White, Always (or Tomorrow, I forget… The green one), Interact for men (And the Derek Jeter one); and Mark’s Dandelion, Earth (something like that), and the Vanilla White Tea from that collection they have.

would you believe I’ve never tried any of those!? haha I have catching to do!

      • Michelle Luna

Well I’m not sure which of those are still available since they were all around 2004-2006 and Mark especially seems to have a really short run time on all their products so probably you could just find a few of the regular ones by Avon.
I grew up on Avon and not having the finances the last handful of years to get my fix has been really hard on me, boohoo. 🙂 (btw what do you think of the Glazewear collection? It’s one of my favorite lip products and always wonder if any of the makeup gurus I follow like them too)

        • Isabella Muse

oh I’m sure they are around avon has fragrances they launched in the 60’s available…like sweet honesty has been around for AGES ;-D Mark def does have a shorter time frame though! they launch and within 2-3 months it is gone! Glazewear is a nice gloss, not my favorite, but they props to them for creating an inexpensive nicely tinted gloss…! Good formula too! I just wish it was a bit shiner and a little bit longer wearing for me! 😀

I used to wear the original fragrance also! You are the first person I’ve “met” that wears it also!

Count me in too as a Haiku lover. The original is the first fragrance from Avon that I fell in love with all the others were to strong smelling for my liking. My husband also loves this on me out of all my fragrances, probably bc it was what I was wearing when we first met. I keep a bottle around and the lotion and body wash. I measure all scents by it (does this give me the feeling I feel when I wear my Haiku?). LOL

I actually think the Kyoto Flower smells better than the original Haiku… No spice for me!

  • Barbara Ommerle

Hi,Marvelous Muse! What do you think of the staying power of this new Avon fragrance? Thanks!

    • Isabella Muse

hi Barbara! I actually mentioned in the post it has a great throw and linger. The time it wears will vary from skin chemistry to skin chemistry though but I can get about five hours from it before the initial strength wears off but it still has a delicate linger in the background!

I like the original Haiku as well, but I believe my favorite was Haiku Awakenings…do you remember that one (it was in a pale yellow package)?
Anyway, it was a much lighter version, but I particularly loved wearing it during the summer months! *sigh*

    • Isabella Muse

YES YES! I do remember it! MIGHT even still have some 😀 it was very nice!

      • Miss D

Yes, I believe I too have a touch of it left (I bought the Awakenings perfume when Avon had a special where you could receive a free Haiku necklace. FYI- I still have AND wear the necklace at times! LOL). 🙂

Hi! I was trying to get my hands on a bottle of the original Haiku after more than 10years but ‘found out that Avon PH doesn’t have them. Would u know if the ones sold on e-bay & Amazon are authentic? Did Avon really discontinued this item already? 🙁

    • Isabella Muse

haiku is available on avon’s website Althea. haven’t a clue if the ones on ebay or amazon are authentic having never shopped for it there myself, maybe get it directly from avon’s website?

I enjoy Haiku, and am glad they have the talc and skin cream available. I also like the Haiku Kyoto flower and would recommend it only to those who like really strong fragrances, even though it’s pretty, it is not a light scent. It also lasts a really, really long time, so I would apply it very lighty.
