Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner1

I do so admit that the new Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner scared me! Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner is a new and innovative gel liner pen that looks like a hot mess. It’s getting a ton of buzz across social media at the moment and quite a lot of coverage on blogs and beauty sites far and wide.

I was skeptical. The pen looks rather clumsy to use and messy. Plus hey, I’m not a whiz using liquid eyeliner anyway so this intimidated and scared me a good deal!

But here’s the deal…

Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner2

It’s actually awesome. Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner combines the elements of using a gel pot eyeliner with your brush but into a pen packaging. So typically I use a flat head brush like the MAC 212 to apply my favorite gel eyeliner but Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner basically takes both my brush and my eyeliner and combines it into an easy to use pen!

Don’t mistake this for a liquid eyeliner because it isn’t that! This is a soft, creamy matte eyeliner formula that has a slightly drier consistency than your standard gel eyeliner. The soft flexible tip of the pen has a tiny hole in the center which allows the gel liner to flow through as you swivel the bottom of the pen to release it. When I used it for the first time I was thinking that TOO much eyeliner would flow out of the pen but this actually distributes a tiny little ribbon of eyeliner, no more, no less, that plenty to use on both eyes.

I think one of the greatest things about the pen is the rubber tip. The slanted applicator is rubber which allows it to flex and move with you as you line your eyes. It creates a very even and smooth application of product and doesn’t smudge the formula as you glide it across lashes. It’s also very small so it fits between your lashes for a fuller look.

The pigmentation on the liner rivals Urban Decay Perversion. It’s very inky, jet black, and perfect on a single application. No reason to build color as it doesn’t tug or smear as you apply it. It’s quite dry and sets to a matte finish so oily lids will love it. As for drier eyes, you’ll love it as well because even though the texture is matte it still has a smooth, even finish that’s very dramatic.

This will wear until you remove it! I get a solid eight hours out of it without it smearing or flaky and at the end of the night it removes easily with an oil based remover.

Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner sounded gimmicky to me at first and it also had a little too MUCH hype surrounding it but in the end I sure am glad I tried it as it truly is an innovative way to use eyeliner. It basically eliminates the need for a brush and a pot of eyeliner as it takes the same method of application using those tools and houses it in a very handy, easy to use pen. And hey, if you’re as bad at lining your eyes as I am with liquid liner, have no fear, this is a completely easy way to get a straight, evenly lined eye with a long wearing formula that doesn’t budge.

I’m impressed Benefit.

Well done!

It’ll be available shortly at Sephora and Sephora.com.

Muse, I’m so glad to hear you liked it! I’ve been reading some negative reviews about how difficult it is to use and it’s been disappointing because I was really looking forward to this product. I am absolutely awful with liquid liner and even at times I struggle with regular liner (sad, I know)lol. Maybe I will give this a go afterall.

    • Isabella Muse

I think you should try it. It felt very over hyped at first but after trying it I was surprised. It’s not hard to use at all, just click, and glide across your lash line! It really can’t be classified as a liquid eyeliner in my opinion! if you try let me know what you think 😀

  • Becca C

Also glad to hear this is muse approved. I’ve also read and seen negative reviews, and I’m excited that it won’t be a waste if/when I decided to try it.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m actually surprised as all I’ve heard is raving and raving which is why I was skeptical when I tried it but I couldn’t believe it worked. It’s just like using a regular potted gel liner except you’re eliminating your brush 😀 I hope you like it becca!

Thanks for the review muse! I was really curious because of the hype. Can you draw fine lines with this? The model has very thick eyeliner but that’s not how I usually do mine. I am a gel eyeliner girl but I also like the super fine kate liquid liner.

    • Isabella Muse

I’d say it’s either thick or it’s medium but not super thin JJ. It seems to start our thinner towards the inner corner but as you move towards the outer eye it’ll start to go thicker. If you want a super thin line you might struggle a little with it!

This looks awesome! Benefit has some really innovative products lately!

  • Margaret

Thanks for the review I was a bit apprehensive about this product too ..there is soo much hype about it and I’ve read a lot of negative reviews.. I would love to see your lined eyes Muse 😀

  • Cindy

I have the same thoughts as you on this product! Took me a bit to get used to it though, and I ended up pumping out way too much product the first time around.

    • Isabella Muse

I was surprised because I’m clumsy but my first try it flowed just right! 😀

This looks very cool but I’m concerned I won’t be able to get a fine feline flick with the rubber applicator. Plus I have very oily lids so that every gel liner I’ve ever tried smudges on me. Only liquid liner really lasts the day.

Maybelline came out with a product like this a while ago. I don’t think it’s available in the U.S. but I know they have it in England now and it was originally in Singapore. It’s called the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner Pen in Black Shock and you can get it on eBay for about $15.

I haven’t tried either gel pen liner (I’m quite satisfied with my PF Eye Booster Liquid Liner) but I’d love to see a comparison between the two. 😉

Very good review! You have me really excited to try this! The formula and applicator sounds like perfection

  • Ashley

I read/heard a few bad reviews on this but I decided to try it for myself. I wonder if I got a bad one. Mine was really dry and the opposite of creamy. I couldn’t get it to ever go opaque in one pass, I couldn’t stamp line with it and when I tried to apply it over eyeshadow of any kind it would ball up. I might test it out again when it launches in store.

    • Isabella Muse

aw that’s terrible 🙁 mine was a matte/dry formula but quite creamy Ashley! You should return it, get another one!

  • Ashley

This looks awesome, and I wonder if they make it in brown. I could see this product easily making Allure’s best of beauty awards list this fall. Looks like life just got a lot easier.

  • Carrie

oh i’m so happy this was muse approved! i’ve been so excited because i love gel liner but i always struggle a bit with the brush aspect and this just seems so user friendly

    • Isabella Muse

it’s very for me and I’m clumsy with liner! 😀 Let me know if you try it Carrie!

  • Susannah

I’m echoing Margaret: I’d love to see a picture of you with this eyeliner on! It sounds like it’d be the perfect eyeliner.

  • BeautyMaven

I find it’s not a very intense black, and if you apply too much, it flakes! I also tried wearing just the eyeliner (no eyeshadow) and it bled into my crease. Very easy to apply but I agree– A little TOO much hype! ((But I’ll say, I’m not returning it either, ha!))

    • Isabella Muse

thankfully didn’t have a prob with flakes, it really wore well on my dry eyes 🙂

  • Laarni

Thanks for the review. I am also scared with this new idea lol But I will definitely check this out. I am a mom and I need to save time by skipping the cleaning of brushes part on my makeup routine.

    Let’s see! Can’t wait.
