Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner Review

Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner

I picked up Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner ($12) late last month at Target. It’s been such a long time since I indulged in Carol’s Daughter that I forgotten how much I adore it.

Mind you I ALWAYS have Carol’s Daughter Rosemary Mint Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner in my hair arsenal but I haven’t really explored the brands other offerings in a SUPER long time. Hell as far as when it was available at Sephora!

I was delighted to see it was at Target recently. It may just be that Target has been carrying it for a long time but I hadn’t noticed or it could be new to the department store. Either way I was happy to run across Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner recently!

As you know I have super long, wavy hair eep! So the Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner is perfect for my drier, wavy, curly, long hair.

First off, I should say, it smells ridiculously good. I don’t like Vanilla fragrances. My sister is obsessed with vanilla but I’m not really all that into it! But this is positively delicious. It’s a very rich, full bodied creamy, sultry, sexy vanilla. It almost has a coconut-ty back note to it. It’s very creamy, very rich, very, very sexy. They need to make a perfume in this scent (Off topic remember when Carol’s Daughter had a perfume!?)

I do think the only ones who can really enjoy the Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner formula though are the chicks and dudes with super longer, wavy hair. This is a very rich conditioner that doesn’t easily rinse away, it takes a little elbow grease to work it in and out of your hair. It’s not thick, it almost resembles a shampoo texture and honestly, if I didn’t know better I would think I was applying shampoo to my hair versus conditioner because it looks quite like shampoo. I apply it and work it deeply into my scalp and rinse away with hot water. I typically use lukewarm water to rinse out my hair but think hotter water helps melt this down in my hair so it rinses away easier. It just seems to want to stick around my hair a bit so that’s why I use the warmer water to rinse.

After exiting the shower my hair feels like it was coated in moisture. It’s a bit odd but it takes next to no work to get the tangles out my hair as I comb through it. I typically air dry and I noticed almost instantly how much softer and smoother my hair looked and felt! I also had considerably less frizz and my hair looked smoother. I didn’t like the shine factor though. This adds a bit too much shine to my hair so I get a glossiness that almost looks like I applied gel to my hair. Aside from the shine factor I’d say the moisture was crazy good and no wonder considering this contains a ton of great ingredients like Vitamin E, Shea, B5, just to name a few!

Needless to say I highly recommend Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner for those that have longer, drier, curly/wavy hair! This will add plenty of moisture and get your hair smoother, frizz-free, and extra, extra hydrated! Oh and the scent, amazing and yes it lingers in your hair ALL day….!

Loves it!

Muse, I love this review and I am personally in L-O-V-E with the scent of vanilla. Do you think you’ll review either the Shea Moisture cosmetic or hair line? They are free of so much nastiness and I would love for you to let us know the quality. Your reviews have helped me to blossom and I would love to see your review of anything by them.
    P.S. Your hair is gorgeous.

my target doesn’t have a ton of shea moisture, they have like one shampoo but nothing else and the cosmetics aren’t in my store either 🙁 but if they do pop up I surely will! Aw thanks you’re too kind Alexa 🙂

Muse, I haven’t seen Shea Moisture at Target, but CVS usually carries their hair stuff. I have curly hair and their conditioners have been a godsend for me. The coconut and hibiscus is especially awesome. After a few days, my curls looked so much nicer, to the point where my usually oblivious male co-worker was complimenting it!

I’m jealous that you can go to Target. I live in Texas and the Open Carry guys are making their stand at Target stores. I pulled into one last week to buy an ironing board and promptly drove away and went to Walmart, instead. I just don’t want to have a rifle in my face when I go buy a new Sonia Kashuk item.

Hey, Muse! I just recently re-discovered Carol’s Daughter thanks to Target, too. They’ve been on the shelf there for a couple of months, now. So nice to be able to pick up stuff from this company without an extra side-trip to the mall, isn’t it?

I have waves that like to misbehave and taunt me. Most products weigh my hair down, but I’ve been using Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Styling Foam and I am seriously in love. It’s not sticky or crunchy, but my it holds my waves like nobody’s business – and no build up so far. My only complaint is that it doesn’t smell like the Black Vanilla products (because it’s not in that line!) I thought, since you have wavy hair and like the brand, you might want to check out the awesomeness.

I have very coarse thin curly hair. I pretty much always use some sort of straightening treatment, currently on the Cezanne keratin…(off topic, but love IT, and I’ve done a lot of different treatments)…I was using the Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner since I don’t wash every day. Long story short, my local Walgreens started carrying this stuff and I’m hooked!!! And I do remember my sister using the hair milk from Sephora years back. And knowing I can pick it up at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond or Walgreens is a HUGE plus.
