Maybelline Master Kajal Eyeliner Review & Swatches

Maybelline Master Kajal by Eyestudio

Maybelline Master Kajal Eyeliner by Eye Studio is a new creamy kohl eyeliner available with the Maybelline Fall 2014 Dare to Go Nude Collection.

I’m actually quite happy with LOreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner so I’m not sure I need another kajal eyeliner in my life but hey, there’s always room for jello as they say!

LOreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner does have a better formula than the newer Maybelline Master Kajal Eyeliner as it works well on my waterline as well as my upper lash line.

Maybelline Master Kajal Eyeliner

Maybelline Master Kajal Eyeliner has a fairly nice, creamy formula with a good intense pigment but its limited lining my upper and lower lash line but if I venture anywhere near my waterline it drags and doesn’t distribute color. Unlike L’Oreal’s version this cannot be sharpened so as it wears down you won’t be able to resharpen the tip. This is a plastic pencil and has a very large, overwhelming sized tip. I find it’s difficult to get the cap back onto the pen without the cap taking chunks of eyeliner along with it. You have to be very, very careful when placing the cap back on it.

The texture is creamy as I said but it does have moments where I need to go over my line again. The thicker and wider point of the pencil allows you to lay it on its side and glide it over your lash line for a thicker line which is great if you like more dramatic looks. You might find the wider design a little bit of a hassle though if you prefer thinner lines. It wears well on my drier eyes and I didn’t seeing any issues with it smearing or flaking. It did, however, fade and looked a little less intense after six hours of wear.

Maybelline Master Kajal Eyeliner is an ok eyeliner but I’ve seen better in drugstores. It’s a little cumbersome to use and the formula didn’t impress me all that much. It might be a good pick up for those that use liner in bolder looks but for average everyday looks it might not be a product you find yourself reaching for daily.

Anyone try it?

Looks like a nice product but I am looking at the actual product. Once the tip is done it would be a bit difficult to use the product unless one uses a brush there after to apply the product. Don’t think I am interested in getting this product but, I love their gel eyeliner in blackest black.

strange that they would make it like this — unless they plan on selling a special sharpener separately, of course.

I just hope to be able to buy one that isn’t broken. I bought the Avon ones a yr or two ago and they both came broken – even with the replacement it was broken. I hope these are better designed. I liked the texture of a kajal pencil – but I just use regular eyeliner pencils.
Have you ever tried the Physicians Formula ones? They look so pretty.
Thank you for this review! -KLR

How does this pencil do with swiping along the waterline more like the eastern method of applying kohl liner? I had the Physician’s Formula powder kohl from forever ago (with the plastic wand applicator), tossed it because the lid broke–I had no idea there weren’t any similar products available without ordering from another country. I think Guerlain has some but that’s outside my price range.

I’ve seen a lot of reviews for the cone-shaped kohl pencils but I haven’t seen anyone try applying it the more traditional way–holding it parallel to the waterline and closing your eye and swiping. Does it apply to the waterline any easier that way, or is it still finicky?
