NYX Honey Dew Me Up Review & Swatches

NYX Honey Dew Me Up

NYX Honey Dew Me Up ($17) is a new facial primer inspired by the golden glow on honey. The primer was formulated to neutralizer discolorations and redness while providing moisture and luminosity to skin.

It’s really an innovative product for NYX but I was shocked at the price of Honey Dew Me Primer as NYX is typically very budget friendly at they are toeing the line with a near $20 price tag.

But let’s take a look and see if it is worth it!

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer comes in a glass jar with a larger spatula to remove product. It’s a light gold almost clear color that has gold flecks suspended in the liquid and texture resembles that of honey although thinner. It has a fresh scent that may be disturbing to sensitive users but I found pleasant although it does hit you in the fact with an alcohol undertone as well!

It contains collagen which promotes very intense moisture. It does contain a very high amount of alcohol which should wreck my skin (alcohol dries me out badly) but actually I was unaffected by it!

I’m possibly the the right and the wrong demographic for NYX Honey Dew Me Up. It seems like it is promoted for those with blemish prone skin so they promote honey as an antiseptic of sorts to calm redness and acne. I actually have no redness nor am I one for breaking out! However, I loved it. It quite reminds me of Make Up For Ever HD Elixir.

At first the texture is honey-like. It’s thick, gooey almost but it melts down like water when it touches my skin and absorbs easily but leaves me very sticky. It does however set to a very smooth, dewy finish that my drier skin adores. It basically smooths over flaky, drier areas and allows my foundation or BB Cream to apply smoother and look fresher since it gives them a nice, even smooth moist surface to adhere too.

The gold flakes aren’t an issue if you were about them. There isn’t any luminosity or radiance that the primer adds nor are you left with flecks of gold on your skin. They seem to just melt down and disappear after application.

NYX Honey Dew Me is an intriguing product. I imagine some might find the alcohol it contains intimidating but personally it didn’t bother me in the least. This is an excellent primer for drier skin! It really injects a healthy amount moisture into my skin and keeps my skin hydrated throughout the day.

I like!

Not sure oily skin will adore NYX Honey Dew Me but those with drier skin or those with mature, drier skin are likely to love this!

It’s available now at www.ulta.com and well worth the $17!

I purchased this item.

Ooh I really like this review! Very well put. Thank you, Muse!

I think I’ll grab it in the winter when my skin is drier. I like and don’t like the spatula idea. I like it because I think they were drawing inspiration from actual honey dippers!

But I don’t like it because…well, how can you control how much product you grab without making a mess? Honestly I’m not one to get upset by makeup germs, but I can’t imagine it’s the most hygienic dispensing option! 😛

aw my pleasure! Def a great winter primer!!!!!!!!!!! Agreed, not very keen on the spatula either. Best thing to do is wipe it off with a makeup remover wipe after each use 🙂

It seems odd, rather incongruous actually, that a primer with such a high alcohol content would be good for dry skin? I’d be curious to see a follow up review after a few weeks of use from you. Other that that it does look pretty in the swatches. Did your foundation do well with it?
As always, thank you for a thorough review!

it’s the same for the Garnier gel moisturizer for me, completely filled with alcohol but my dry skin LOVES IT! I’ve been using this for a week and a half so far no added dryness thankfully! Of course, alcohol is notorious for breaking down collagen which isn’t good 🙁 yes, foundation applied smoother, looked very fresh, no issues with fading but than again I can use all the moisture I can get prior to foundation application. my pleasure!

Fascinating! So, it’s not sticky once it sets? I have some redness in my cheeks, and my skin never got the message that I’m not a teenager any more. With the alcohol in the formula, it might be just right for me – it sounds like it’d balance oil production by drying out what I’ve already got, and then hydrating so I don’t produce more.

Allegedly, gold has anti-inflammatory properties, but I can’t imagine the amount or quality in this really makes a difference, except to jack up the price. It’s fun to imagine one is being really decadent, though.

    On the list it goes!

it’s sticky at first but once it sets it leaves a soft, dewiness on my skin! thankfully the alcohol didn’t add any dryness to my face and it felt very hydrating 😀 I wish the gold actually did something 🙂 but yeah, fun to con myself into believing it’s doing something awesome for my skin! I imagine you’ll be able to get it on sale easily at Ulta when it launches there!

I wonder if the higher price tag is indicative of the company being purchased by makeup giant L’Oreal. I have loved Nyx for years and I appreciate the fact that they usually have products with stellar quality at a drug store price point. It makes me feel a bit better about my feeding my inner hoarder mentality of “gotta have them all” when a lipstick is like 5 bucks a pop and often a BOGO at Ulta.

This primer looks interesting and with my dryer skin it might be just the thing that I need and by need I mean, something else to add to my primer collection and use lol

    • Isabella Muse

mmm seems too soon to say that and in my opinion I’ve noticed NYX has been going up in price a while now so this doesn’t surprise me. I don’t mind so much if the quality of an item is good but sometimes it is unexpected from a budget friendly brand! I feel the same way about $5 lipstick for sure but at least Ulta always has sales which will make $17 bearable! I hope you like it, I thought it was fab!

  • Raincouver Girl

What an odd looking primer! It really looks like you’d be spreading honey on your skin LOL. Despite your positive review, I’m still a bit worried about the high alcohol content, but the claims sound perfect for me. I guess it might just be one of those things I have to try for myself!

  • Heidi

I’m intrigued but $17 is a bit steep. It does look lighter in its way, though. Some primers feel too obvious for me. Seeing the gold flecks dissolve is kind of cool.

  • Phyrra

This makes me want to try it since my skin is on the dry side these days.

  • Mandi

I wonder how this compares to the Guerlain L’Or Primer w/pure gold? I like the price of this better!

  • Grace

Wow this looks almost exactly the same as the Touch in Sol Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base Primer! I wonder if the actual products are similar

  • Rachael

Smoothies over my flakes???? The sephora anti shine primer when it was in the grey packaging did this for me. Idk the formula is supposed to be the same but it doesn’t..so I’ve been searching for something that does this for my weird dry sensitive skin..so can’t wait to try this!

  • Donna

Sounds interesting, guess I’ll need to try it out, but will wait until it goes on sale! Love your reviews!

  • Kimmwc03

I’ve been using this on my oily skin the last few days and I like it. I have to add a mattifier on my T-zone so I use this on top and on the other areas of my face that don’t get oily. It seems to make my liquid foundation (CG 3-in-1) look nicer and more smooth.

  • cristina alvarado

I got this today and it does a wonderful job! I love it😊

  • moushka

Whether or not the alcohol is drying your skin now, the longer you use the product, the more long-term free radical damage you’ll do to your skin. Denatured alcohol really doesn’t belong in skin care products. No matter how great it feels, I wouldn’t let this product near my skin! Thanks for the review. Knowing what to avoid is just as important as knowing what to buy!
