Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick (New Formula) Review & Swatches

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick new formula

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick has launched in a new formula and packaging for Fall 2014. The entire line of Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick has gotten a complete revamp for Fall with brand new packaging and a new formula that’s quite a good deal more hydrating than the original!

I must admit Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick is a sore disappointment for me. I’ve never really understood the entire “moisture renew” marketing because they weren’t all that moisturizing nor did they keep my lips terribly hydrated through the wear.

I was a little wary of purchasing the new formula of Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick because of this but I’m glad I indulged as there is some improvement here.

The new packaging has a translucent plastic lighter casing and packaging done in a darker purple with Rimmel down the side. I loved the old packaging in all honesty and it feels like they went a little more budget-y with the new design but it still looks rather slick for a drugstore lipstick and should be appealing to those who love purple!

The formula isn’t really SUPER hydrating but it is considerably better than its predecessor. I find this formulation is creamier, slicker, and lightly moisturizing where as the older version felt almost semi-matte in finish with a drier formula that accentuated the natural lines of lips. This formula is softer, smoother, and has a slight sheen finish. I like it! It’s not “OMG WOW moisturizing” but does provide pleasant lightweight hydration to lips and has a fresh, smooth look on! It wears for about three to four hours on my drier lips and has a light floral taste and flavor that wasn’t bitter or gross to my mouth.

I’m unsure if the current shades offered are the same as the original colors but there are about 20 or more colors in the new line! I know both the formula and packaging has been revamped but unsure if the colors have been as well!

I don’t think you need to rush out and buy the newly formulated Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks but they are worthy of a pick up if you happen upon them on sale as they are a refreshing change from the heavier not so hydrating formula of the past.

These are starting to launch at drugstores now.

Tried them?

Loved the original?

Do share!

I purchased this item.

I just bought the Tower of Mauve shade and it is absolutely gorgeous. I found it to be very opaque with only one swipe. That’s a major plus! 🙂

I’m running out and getting these now! I’ve been wanting Notting Hill Nude but it hasn’t been available in the US. Yay!

  • Jen

Have you done a roundup post on your favorite lipstick formulas from recent months? Would love to hear your opinion.

  • Alexa

How would you compare the moisture level in the new Rimmel in comparison to the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks?

  • Jenny H.

I’m kinda with you on the old formula of these lipsticks. They’re not bad, and they’re certainly not moisturizing, they’re just…eh.

However, I will say that despite the underwhelming formula, Let’s Get Naked is still one of my favorite lipsticks. It’s just such a pretty shade of pink that brightens up my face whenever I wear it, and it works well with pretty much any look I put together. It has a permanent place in my purse for sure! When I heard that they were revamping the line I was worried that it would get discontinued or the color would change, but looking at your swatch it seems that I needn’t have been so concerned. Notting Hill Nude is a color I’ve been wanting to try for a while, but I could never find it and thought it had been discontinued.

For some reason it takes forever for new Rimmel products to roll out in my neck of the woods, so I’ll probably be waiting a while before I can try out the new lipstick formula. They have a cream blush out now that’s supposed to be really good, but none of the stores in my area are stocking it yet, even though I think it was released several months ago. 🙁

hey jenny I concur! formula is just eh but there are a few shades from the collection that are stunning! Let’s Get Naked being one! Same here on the cream blush, heard about it several months ago but still not available here for purchase!

So THIS is why all the Rimmel lipsticks were 50% off at CVS. I bought two of the old ones yesterday b/c of the sale. I actually quite like them, so I’ll be interested to see the new formula/packaging when they make it to my neck of the woods.

Not happy with these new Rimmel lippies, to be honest. The colours are wishy-washy, no dark bolds in the bunch. And the texture is nothing to write home about, at least as far as I could tell by swiping a few testers on the back of my hand. Rimmel strikes out this time at the bat, I’m afraid.

  • Liz

I do like the shades in Rimmel lipsticks but them irritate my lips so bad.

  • Mary B

This may be why I’ve never had problems with these lipsticks being too drying. I’ve lived out in the boonies for years, until recently. I wasn’t even familiar with Rimmel until a few months ago. Revlon is still my favorite drugstore lipstick, but Rimmel is pretty good for the price.

Update: I’m getting Let’s Get Naked (along with 5 other lip products) for free, thanks to Ulta… looking forward to trying it for myself. I mean, you can’t beat free. It looks like it would be a very nice everyday, just a quick run to the store but want to look like I at least tried, look. LOL, if you know what I mean.

        • Mary B

I got my free lippies, but the Let’s Get Naked I was so looking forward to (the one out of the whole bunch I was sure I’d like most) was replaced by Notting Hill Nude. Which I’m not saying is a bad color but after looking forward to Let’s Get Naked so much, it was a let down. Plus I think Notting Hill Nude looks too much like a couple other lipsticks I already have. I’m considering trying to see if my local Ulta would let me swap, but since it was a freebie (I don’t have a receipt per say showing I had “bought” it). What do you think I should do? I hadn’t even tried it on in case I’ll have better odds of getting it exchanged. What would you do?

          • Mary B

Mac Half n Half is one of the lipsticks I own I thought would look too much like Notting Hill Nude. Have you tried Half n Half? What do you think?

  • Mary B

I was pretty bummed out when Ulta sent me the Notting Hill Nude instead of the Let’s Get Naked. After much pouting I contacted my local Ulta; they couldn’t exchange bc it was a freebie. Starting tomorrow Rimmel will be on sale for bogo 50% off; with coupon, it would be like bogo free. So I’ll just get LGN when it goes on sale. Idk if it’s just me, but on my lips NHN is an exact dupe for Mac Half’n Half.
