Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer

Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer recently passed over my desk and I realized how much I disliked the original Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer so I wasn’t sure how I’d like this eyeshadow primer.

The thing is I thought maybe the two products were potentially formulated the same but good news, they aren’t!

Let’s take a look!

Since Urban Decay changed their Primer Potion formula I’ve kinda been skipping out on eyeshadow primer lately. I’ve found a few shadow primers I love but I find I skip the step more and more in the Winter and only depend on it in the Summer when I’m outside more and my shadow is more likely to crease due to the warmer weather!

Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer Swatches

Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer is one of those products you’ll likely never use for 24 hours. Someday I want to meet the girl or guy who wears eyeshadow or any makeup for 24 hours haha…I mean I have long days sometimes that last 14 hours maybe more but I don’t think I’ve ever gone 24 straight hours with makeup on.

I disliked the packaging on this as it lacks a needle nose tip and has a wider mouth which means it distributes quite a bit when you squeeze the tube. Also as you squeeze the tube becomes a bit deformed kinda like a toothpaste tube.

The primer itself is a lighter transparent pink that applies on lids clear. I think oily lids won’t get on with it very well as it feels quite hydrating going on so it might add unnecessary oil. It does set to a satin finish and creates a solid canvas for eyeshadow to adhere to. Shadow seems to cling to it well and it doesn’t hinder application in anyway. I get about 8 hours of shadow wear from it without seeing fading or creasing which is fairly good however, in warmer weather I did see some creasing around the edges of my eye at around hour seven in extra humid environments.

I dunno if Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer is life changing for me in the shadow primer department but it seems to do well under normal conditions but might not be a great pick in warmer weather as it won’t completely bulletproof shadow or at least it didn’t for me. I also feel like the texture isn’t terribly forgivable for those with oily lids that require a more matte finish for eyeshadow to be applied over.

Anyone try it?

Do share your experience with it!

UDPP was my favorite for a long time…I really like Mally’s eyeshadow primer at the moment though!

The only time I even get close to 24 hours of wearing makeup is during conventions, and that’s usually more along the lines of 16 to 20 hours. That said, I think I’ll skip this; I’m really loving too faced’s shadow insurance!

try con makeup typically goes for a 16 hour or more day 😀 but never 24 hours haha!

For $20, you can do better. Personally, my faves are the Milani primer – about $8 and dead on rock solid!! My second fave is the Lorac Behind the Scenes Primer. Granted, it’s $21, but you get .47 oz with it instead of the .41 you get with the SB. Have you tried the Milani one, Muse? If not, you should! It’s amazeballs! 😛

GREAT rec 😀 loves it too! Milani primer is a steal and fab 😀 I reviewed it when it came out and loved it!

Wow, seems like I’ve been missing out on the Milani one! I used to use Lorac’s and I’ve been using Too Faced’s ever since, but I still feel like my eyeshadows fade fairly quickly!
