Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick Review & Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty Fall 2014 brings us the new Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick that is a chubby little lipstick which is marketed as a lightweight burst of color and hydration!
As I have a mini obsession with chunky lip pencils I was instantly on top of this but I soon realized it really isn’t a traditional chunky lip pencil and really, it’s more of a lipstick!
Although a Fall 2014 release, Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Lip Color Sticks will likely remain a permanent part of the Marc Jacobs Beauty Collection!
I was surprised by this release as I’m a massive fan of the Marc Jacobs Lip Gel Lipstick formula but these didn’t quite live up to that formulation or texture.
For starters, it’s ok to lust after the very cute packaging. As you can see each comes housed in a chubby lipstick sized tube featuring the color of the shade on the very tip of the pencil. The tube is mirrored and a bit different and nicer than the basic white and black of the original makeup collection. Although cute it’s a magnet for fingerprints and could drive me to drink as I’m constantly rubbing it on my shirt to shine it up! It’s kinda shaped like a chunky bullet with a twist up design.
I think the packaging is slightly misleading as I thought the Kiss Pop formula was more about sheerer, lighter, balmy moisturizing color and technically these don’t really provide that so they aren’t really a “chubby lip pencil” but more of a lipstick. It’s the packaging that likely throws me off since they look like a chubby pencil in promo photos. But once you’re holding it in your hand and you’ve actually tried it you realize this is all about lipstick and not about the current chubby lip pencil and crayon craze. They actually house a good deal of product weighting in at 0.15 oz in size as well making the price a little more easy to digest!
The pigmentation is fairly lovely on these but the formula is a bit too dry for me with a thicker, heavier feel on my lips. I’d call them matte in finish and this translates as drier for me unfortunately. They wear for a solid five hours but during that time my lips felt drier and drier and drier and that becomes more and more obvious in the finish of lipstick as after two hours you’ll notice the dryness on lips as they aren’t as smooth as the original application. They don’t have an easy glide so do prep well prior as they tend to tug and accentuate drier areas on lips if you have them! I’m really unsure about the “burst of hydration” that the brand claims they have as these are far from anything hydrating or moisturizing! It’s all about matte here and considerably dryness! I did not notice a fragrance of flavor in the formula.

Overall, Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Lip Color Sticks are cute and they provide to give you a good deal of product for the near $40 price tag. The brand has proved already that they can do lipstick right so the Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick formula proves a disappointing surprise with a drier less than hydrating formula that wears long but dry and uncomfortable.
