Summer Vacation Makeup

summer vacation makeup

So what Summer Vacation Makeup did you take away with you on holiday this year? What do you pack and bring with you? Do you over pack? Do you like the pack multitasking products to save space and make traveling a little lighter? Are there any must have products you can’t go on vacation without?

I admit I’m an over packer in a major way but I’ve trying to do better. I’m the type of person that wants to just take everything with me!

This year I decided I’d be better about packing lighter so I made sure to grab a one great blush in both a cream, liquid, stain, and powder formula as well as one great foundation/BB Cream and concealer, and only ONE palette that I knew had shades I’d make great use out of like the Urban Decay Naked Palette! And of course, essential lipglosses, lipsticks, and skincare! There were times I’d pay like twenty eyeshadows which is beyond the absurd.

Do you tend to rely on multitasking products and go really light and minimal with makeup when you’re on vacation or do you tend to go ALL out with your makeup and pack tons of options so you can create dramatic looks?

If you went on vacation recently or you’re planning to be away soon do share your Summer Vacation Makeup must haves!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. One thing I’ve always had in my bag with me whenever I leave the house has been Iope’s Water Fit Lipstick in #44. It’s just the perfect bright pink that keeps my lips moist and the colour stays on a long time. Makes me feel very “summery”.

As for blush, it’s gotta be Tom Ford Frantic Pink and a luminizer of some sort, like Topshop’s Glow in the little pot. But actually, I have to be honest… I overpack WAY too much and bring a massive train case full of makeup, most of which I know I won’t use, every time I go away.

I have a trip to Martha’s Vineyard planned for September. I’ve already ordered a couple of dresses, and I’ll probably make lots of use of my adorable octopus hair fork while I’m there.

Makeup will most likely be my LORAC stylist palette, a tinted moisturizer with spf, a cheek stain, a couple of lip colors and my favorite mascara. Simple, classy, understated. Very Vineyard. 🙂

I use a really nice Vera Bradley tri-fold makeup case that holds everything all nice and organized. I’ll stick to one of each of my basics (foundation, powder, bronzer, blush, concealer) and then usually pick 2 eyeshadow palettes (I love UD Naked too and the Sleek Makeup palettes because they’re so compact! Or the UD 9 pan palettes from a while ago). Then a few eyeliners that go with the shades in the palettes and a mascara. I used to bring like 5 shadow palettes because I’d think “but I don’t know what mood I’ll be in or what I need to match!” But I’ve gotten better about that, and packing for trips in general I think. I packed for a 7 day cruise in a just a carry on and backpack once!

I took only ONE palette with me on trips this summer, Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar. I was really proud I cut it down to just one, but then I negated this by packing 45989 blushes, foundations, and lip products. Baby steps, I guess!

LOL! I always feel the need to pack 100000 brushes! WHY?!

We’re headed to the beach for a week at the end of August and I’ve already been thinking about what makeup I’ll be taking! LOL I always overpack but this time we’re heading tp a pretty sleepy town, so nothing “fancy” is coming this time. Definitely I will be taking the IT Cosmetics CC foundation, it’s everything I need…spf., primer, moisturizer and some coverage…perfect! I’ll do a concealer, 1 cream shadow, 1 cream blush, a highlighter/luminizer,1 long wear dark brown eyeliner, a few glosses, MAC Fix+ and my Anastasia Brow Pomade (these are not negotiable…must haves). I hate to wear mascara on beach holidays so likely I’ll bring a waterproof one but really if I curl my lashes I feel ok. Then maybe my MAC MSF.
Seems like a lot but it’s very light for me! Cheers,Lisa

I was so proud of myself last weekend…I packed the naked pallet, a matte pallet, ONE blush, face powder, sunscreen, couple liners, and a mascara. that is the lightest I have ever been able to pack. I usually get so carried away with multiple pallets and blushes. it makes getting ready so much quicker when you have limited options.

I used to bring 3 large (half-gallon size >.<) bags of makeup whenever I travelled and am so proud to have cut it down to one. I made my own makeup base by mixing a sunscreen and a tinted moisturizer that already had SPF in it to cut down the steps. The sunscreen has oil control properties so I don't need a face primer. I bring my Lorac Pro and eye drops for all eyeshadow and liner needs. Brow pencil, mascara, eye primer, blotting sheets, 2 blushes (light pink and coral) and 3 lips products (lip gloss, lipstick, and lip stain) in varying shades of pink (since that's what I know I wear all the time) to complete my entire summer kit 😀

For brushes, I just bring an angled liner, a crease, a flat shadow, and blending for eyes. Face is super simple–a blush brush xD

I went away for two weeks this summer and did… mostly okay. Two palettes, though one was Chocolate Bar and one was much brighter, one blush/bronzer duo, a little container of foundation and one of tinted moisturizer, a few cream shadows, a mascara, face powder, shadow primer. I did take a bunch of eyeliners, but I used them all and also eyeliner is the biggest part of my social armor, so I feel pretty okay about that. I’m new to makeup, so it felt like I was packing EVERYTHING, but I really wasn’t.

One thing that both my daughter & I do is to pack our make up bags (complete with skin care), about a week before we go away. Then each day we get ready using only what we’ve packed. It’s a great way to make sure you’ve not forgotten anything vital, and if you do need to add anything in it’s a good way to see exactly what you need.
We’re away in September & my plan is to pack my day and night skincare, a deep cleansing mask, hydrating mask & my favourite overnight mask.
Make up wise I’ll decide on one foundation & concealer, powder, mascara, couple of pencils, one or two blushes, 2 or 3 cream shadows and either one palette or a couple of individual shadows or a couple of quads, lip products and of course a box of tissues and q-tips. My daughter I’m sure will take 3 times as much as me if not more!!!

I cut way down when I travel and use a Sonia Kashuk bag that has a place for brushes on the top that covers them and the makeup goes underneath. I have the small one so I have to cut back. I bring a neutral palette or quad, one blush, powder, foundation, eyeliner, brow pencil and mascara.

The day before we leave I use those items and put them in the bag as I use them so I don’t forget anything.
