Tarte Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick

Tarte Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick ($19) is a new universal eye primer with color correcting colored clay that launched with the Tarte Fall 2014 Collection. I love the idea of this as sort of a Benefit Lemon-Aid type product that can used all its own to brighten up my eyes without eyeshadow on top. I don’t think I’ll ever find a product to replace my beloved Lemon Aid but I like looking that’s for sure.

Tarte Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick is definitely marketed as a product you can use to brighten up your eyelids as well as a prep for your eyeshadows.

How does it perform?

Let’s see!

Tarte Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick comes housed in a chubby twist up no sharpener required chubby pen. The packaging basically mimics that of Tarte Lipsurgence Pencils.

This is supposedly formulated with a colored clay that absorbs excess oil but sorry kids, my eyes are drier so unsure how well this does at mattifying oil lids. I will say it dries down to a smooth, satiny finish. They do call it neutral but it is pink toned so it probably won’t work on a range of skin tones. Personally it was a bit too pink for me so my lids looked a little chalky if I used it alone but it was fine with shadow on top obviously. It uses a variety of colored clays to even out skin tone, brighten, and neutral redness and reflect light to even out your skin tone but again, I didn’t experience much of this. I feel like I have darkness, dullness around my eyelids but not redness so this didn’t really brighten much up. It also runs rather sheer so as you blend it seems to blend away. It is creamy and blends easily enough though but as for allowing my shadows to last up to 12 hours and intensifying them, well, that was lacking a bit too!

I like the concept of and idea of Tarte Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick but it might be a one trick pony for most users in the fact it’ll brighten for a certain skin tone and create a more even finish on lids but won’t necessarily act to prime well for eyeshadow! I didn’t feel this added any long wear to my shadows nor did I feel it brightened for me as the color just wasn’t quite right and hardly universal so unfortunately it didn’t quite live up to what I expected and wanted from it.

Tarte Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick will be an excellent pick for a fairer, paler skin tone as a “lid concealer” of sorts but don’t expect it to also extend the wear of shadows as I just didn’t feel it accomplished this as I saw fading and creasing within a four to five hour period.

It’s a nice idea but just didn’t quite work out well for me.

It’s available now at Sephora.com, Ulta.com, and on Tarte’s website and will be debuting in stores shortly.

I have similar eyelid problems, Tiny 🙁 I have had good luck with Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and even better luck if I layer: Too faced shadow insurance, a translucent powder, and then a MAC paint pot (i use painterly). Then my shadows don’t budge. Still haven’t figured out a way to keep liner on my waterlines 🙁 Good luck!!

I find that i can keep eyeliner in my water line if i go a bit extra on my bottom lash mascara, set the liner with shadow, and do my primer routine under the eye as well.

Thanks for the review Muse!! I was keen to see what you thought of this, and since we’re skin twins, I’ll give it a big ol’ pass! 🙂 I love it when you *save* me money! (but then you always manage to create some lemmings for me, so it all evens out-that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!) 😀

The color looks great for brightening under the eyes! I may splurge just for that… or Benefit’s Erase Paste (which I haven’t tried either).

I have really oily eyelids. And no eye primer or eye base, so far, has helped. I’ve even tried the Urban Decay eye primer potion and it was a fail. (Yes I did try in small and all kinds of portions) and the Fergie Wet n Wild that used to work doesn’t anymore. Do you recommend this primer or any kind of other primer for my situation.
