Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner Review

Carol's Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner

What can I say? You NEED Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner! I know, I know, I say that about every Carol’s Daughter product I tried but I’m really enjoying rediscovering this brand and my hair is all the happier for it!

Now Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner isn’t the best product I’ve tried from the brand but it is incredible smelling and although difficult to rinse out it proves invaluable for taming frizz and creating smoother, softer hair.

I have long, wavy, slightly dry hair with a good deal of looser curls and of course, frizzy issues! I purchased Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner on a whim really because I’m not particularly a fan of chocolate scented anything. No worries though because Carol’s Daughter YET AGAIN created a positively addicting scented hair product. Forget haircare this company needs to start creating fine fragrances. This does indeed have a hint of a chocolate smell but it also has a dark, muskiness giving the chocolate a very rich, warm, sultry scent. It’s the type of fragrance that once used in your hair will basically stop people in their tracks and have them asking you, “What’s that perfume you’re wearing!?” It lingers long and has a fairly amazing throw!

On top of the gorgeous scent this actually has incredible frizz decreasing benefits. They claim it’ll smooth hair for up to 72 hours and you’ll see 70% less frizz. It can a vegetable protein which does cause a good deal of build up unfortunately and proves extra work for rinsing out of hair! But if you can cope with the hassle of rinsing it out and of course, detoxing and clarifying at the end of the week, I promise the benefits are pretty awesome!

First off, I dislike the packaging on this and hope they improve on it in the future. This has a spout on the top and a cap you twist to open it. I find squeezing the bottle a pain! I can barely get the product to flow because it is very, very, very thick and creamy. I think the spout is a pain to squeeze such a thick formula out of so a packaging revamp might be in order.

The thick consistency does mean you have to really have time to work this through longer hair. I find I spend at least 2 to 3 minutes getting it to absorb and sink into my wet hair. It just takes a bit of elbow grease to get it worked into longer hair. It also takes fairly warm water to rinse it all away. I typically take a cold shower in the Summer so I do have to forgo that and use warmer water as this doesn’t rinse away without the warmer water to melt it down! I find it does cause my hair to become a bit oily and heavier after about two weeks of continued use so clarifying once a week is a very good idea just to detox your hair!

One of the things I noticed after the initial use was my hair was so freaking smooth. Like shampoo commercial smooth! I had considerably less frizz but my hair just looked super glossy and soft! The frizz factor was still an issue but it was considerably less than what I normally experience. After a full week of use my hair not only looked smoother but my frizz was fairly under control to a point I could skip my normal round of products to control it. Unfortunately by week two I did notice my hair, mid week, went a bit lackluster and heavy with a bit of oiliness at the roots. I don’t typically have an issue with oiliness so this was abnormal. None the less it doesn’t surprise since this is the type of treatment that coats hair in conditioning oils so buildup, oiliness, etc didn’t surprise me!

Overall, Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner fights frizz well and it creates a smoother, glossy finish on hair. But you do have to contend with build up and be sure to clarify well to get the best benefits from the conditioner!

It’s not without it’s quirks but Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner is pretty darn amazing conditioner! And don’t forget it smells incredible too!

I purchased this item.

The Chocolat line is being phased out and replaced with the Cupuaçu line so get your Chocolat products while you can! Pretty sure the Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner are also being phased out and replaced with the Lisa’s Hair Elixir Shampoo and Conditioner.
