Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil ($27) is one of those simple and effective cleansing oils that does not have fragrance and is created with a natural oil-like ingredient from the Castor Bean Plan.

I’m always terribly surprised when folks, especially oily skin ones, shy away from cleansing oils. Believe me they really should be a stable in your makeup removal regime as they do an excellent job of completely eliminating makeup and no, they do NOT make your face oily! Makeup god’s honest truth!

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil is a clear, lightweight cleansing oil that all skin types can use. Compared to other cleansing oils I own and use I’d call it quite thin and lighter in texture but still has an oily feel as you apply it. It rinses clean away and does not leave a film over my face after use. If anything at all in regards to the final finish after using the product I’d say my face was fairly balanced. I don’t feel dry and tight after using it nor do I feel too hydrated, moist, or oily. My skin, simply feels like my skin after use and I like that. Too many formulas end up making me feel tight after rinsing or I feel like I have an odd film on my face after rinsing but this formula truly does well at rinses completely away and doesn’t strip or add anything to my skin in the process of removing my makeup!

To use it, simply pump a few squirts into the palms of your hands and smooth it all over your dry face! No need to wet your face first. I love cleansing oils around my eyes because I don’t feel like I’m tugging around these delicate area and they glide across my lids easily to remove my mascara and eye makeup. After massaging on you’ll add a little bit of water to your face to emulsify the oil. It’ll go milky white as it breaks down! After this simply rinse. Done! Your face makeup will break down and you’ll be nice and squeaking clean. Some folks follow up after cleansing oil with a cleansing foam as well so that is an option should you like!

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil is quite nicely formulated and does an excellent job breaking down makeup! Just be warned it does give me trippy cloudy vision when used around my eyes! Cleansing oils are known to do this. If you want to avoid this you can always remove your eye makeup prior and don’t use the oil around your eyes!

This is available now exclusively at Sephora and Sephora.com.

I want this!!! I love their Take the Day off for eyes and lips! Happy Dance!! Okay, really need to cut back on the caffeine! 🙂

  • Kimkats

Hey Muse how do you like it compared to the DHC oil? That one is kinda my HG, but I like all the TTDO products I have tried – their eye makeup remover is my fave!!

    • Isabella Muse

really diff. clinique’s version is thinner, slicker, but both remove makeup excellently 🙂

  • Jenny

Would you consider this one of your favorite cleansing oils love? Im just about done with the Garnier one I’ve been using and was thinking I might try something else. Would love your recommendation, thanks!

    • Isabella Muse

it’s up there Jenny 🙂 It’s a great cleansing oil, good formula! nice size too for the price 😀

I always read your reviews before I buy a cleansing oil. This is next on my list.

I have tried cleansing oils even though I have the oiliest face of anyone I know. They truly are very luxurious. I do like them a lot, and have paid way more than normal for oil cleansers because they do cost more, but the difference in how it feels washing your face with a typical cleanser vs washing with an oil cleanser is very clear: the oil feels like a spa treatment.

  • Celine

How does this compare do you think to their balm? That is I feel a staple in my makeup removing.

      • Celine

Oh, you should! The balm is actually an oil when rubbed on your face. It’s also great at taking eye makeup off and you don’t get that cloudy vision either. I feel very confident after using that balm that my makeup if off and then I follow with another cleanser.

I feel like I’ve used it before but I know it isn’t in my stash!? 😀 will have to pick it up and try!

  • Majick

DHC Cleansing oil is the only one I’ve used that I like. I would consider trying this one but the “thinner” consistency makes me think I may waste it. Of the two, do you have a preference?

    • Isabella Muse

i don’t really both do an excellent job of cleansing 🙂

  • Lauren

As an oily skinned girl with sensitive skin, anything with oil scares the bejeezus out of me. I am not only worried about oilier skin, but I worry that a cleansing oil will break me out. Often, products that are not oil free will cause huge cystic acne to develop. I don’t want to take the chance of breakouts because it can take weeks to clear up and I’ll be left with hyperpigmentation for months. I’m sure cleansing oils are great, but I’ll stick with traditional cleansers!

    • Celine

Interesting that you say break out cause I have very dry skin and rarely break out and when I started trying an oil cleanser I have been breaking out. Wonder if that’s why?

    • guest

In chemistry class they tell you, “like dissolves like” because oils dissolve oils, water based dissolves water based, etc, so based on that, I tried the Bobbi Brown cleansing oil. My skin is super oily but not blemish prone at all, so I thought the oil would dissolve my natural oils. I have to say it was not for me. The oil was really runny and therefore hard to use and it never left my skin feeling clean. I don’t use super drying cleansers, so it wasn’t a matter of me being used to my skin feeling tight and I thought that meant clean, it just never felt like I removed all my make up or that I started with a fresh canvas in the morning.

That being said, I haven’t tried any other cleansing oils, so I am not an expert by any means. I’m just saying that as someone with ultra oily skin, the one I tried was not for me. Everyone’s different though, so if it works for you or anyone else, then cheers to that 🙂

As the review said, this cleanser does not contain oil; it is an oil-like substance. I have sensitive skin and have broken out with other oil cleansers but not this one. I just wanted something that was water-soluble, which this one is. Hence, there is no residue with this product when rinsed with water.

I am a recent convert to cleansing oils. My goodness, I love them. I am going to try this one soon. Right now, I’m using the Take the Day Off cleansing balm, and it’s really good too.

After reading your reviews on cleansing oils, I’ve been soo determined to try and get one. But it’s hard to convince myself to spend a lot of money on them. I know there’s a few drugstore options, but in your opinion are the higher end oils worth splurging for vs drugstore oils such as the Garnier?

    • heather

i’m a big fan of the garnier cleansing oil even after trying a lot of high end ones. the only thing worth mentioning that you may not like is that it is heavenly fragranced.

  • Maria A

Have you tried boscia rose cleansing gel? If so, which is better?

  • Anh

I was thinking of doing Korean skincare regime which starts with an oil cleanser followed by a foaming cleanser, do you think this oil cleanser would fit this regime or would it be too harsh?

  • anjelica ibrahim

i have large pores, and I find this dries out my skin?

  • Abby

I’ve been using the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm and love it, but I’ve always been looking at this product too!
