Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Review & Swatches
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21) recently launched in a whooping 30 shades for Fall 2014. The formula is marketed at a full 10 hours of wear with a comfortable color cushion technology that leaves lips drenched in color.
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick is actually kinda more of a hybrid lipstick in my experience as it acts almost like a lip stain but it’s packaged as a lipstick.
I had an interesting experience with these.
So check out my thoughts below!
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick disguise themselves very well as a high end lipstick but at a mid-range price tag of a mere $21 dollars. The packaging is pretty incredible with sturdy, solid very slick looking black studded tubes. If you put a lot of emphasis on packaging chances are you’re going to really love this daring, edge-y tube. Not only is the packaging awesome but you’re also looking at a huge selection of shades here! One thing I love about the Kat Von D Makeup Collection is the fact they have consecutively released new products seasonally for the past several years.

I’ll be honest here and say you’re either going to really love this formula or you’re going to really hate it. About 85% of the shades offered are a matte finish and the shades I tried are all mattes. There are some shimmery shades but almost all the color offerings are matte in finish.
Now…I think I have use the term matte very, very loosely here because frankly, this formula is like no matte I’ve ever tried before. I find the texture of the lipstick very thin. They are not creamy and they do have a very stiff, drier texture that drags during application. I have drier lips but lucky enough I didn’t find these to accentuate that issue! They didn’t cling to drier areas not did they settle into my natural lip lines. I had no issues with color migrating or feathering and they have a very locked down feel once in place! I find they wear for at least six hours before showing some fading! They do stain a good bit after wearing completely away and the stain lasts for a good hour or two after. Now..most matte formulas are typically velvety after application. These aren’t really creamy nor velvety in texture. They almost look like you’ve applied a very pigmented lip stain. They have a smooth, even look on lips when applied correctly and create a very dramatic look. I find the secret to application is to apply a layer and go over the layer a few times to get the smoothest finish. You’ll want to prep well by exfoliating prior to application as well and no one would blame you if you’d like to use some sort of lip primer or balm so these don’t drag and tug as much as you apply.

Through the wear they felt comfortably lightweight. They didn’t crack or become dry! Mind you they aren’t moisturizing either but they didn’t feel tight or dry on my lips. I think the main issue is during application as that’s where you feel like, “wow, this is a pretty tough lipstick to apply!” But once they are in place, well, I think they look pretty darn amazing! It’s the getting there that’s a problem. For sensitive users these do have a caramel, vanilla-like flavor and fragrance.
Not everyone is going to love the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick formula especially those who are looking for a more traditional matte textured lipstick. But if you’re looking for the long term staying power of a stain in a lipstick format you might just want to check these out. The formula has hiccups but it’s also pretty darn innovative as well.
