MAC Riff-Raff Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

MAC Rocky Horror Picture Show Riff Raff

Riff Raff, a handyman, butler, usurper of Doctor Frank n Furter and better to fans as Richard O’Brien, the writer behind the wonder that is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Why should this amazing character (and man) have his own eyeshadow palette?

That’s exactly what MAC thought so they created the MAC Riff-Raff Eyeshadow Palette to pay homage to the legendary, slightly passive aggressive, underdog to the Doctor, Mr Riff-Raff…

The MAC Riff-Raff Eyeshadow Palette ($44) is releasing with the MAC Rocky Horror Picture Show Collection this week. This comes in glossy black box with the legendary Rocky Horror Picture Show Lips decorating the cover. Inside you’ll find an entire black and white print of characters from the film decorating the interior of the box! The palette itself has a clear lid with a base compact base featuring the Rocky Horror Picture Show lips yet again. I actually kinda like the outside box more than I do the actual shadow compact.

MAC Riff Raff Eyeshadow

The MAC Riff Raff Eyeshadow Palette includes six eyeshadows total, two of which are brand new. I dunno if the palette stands out as unique or different. The washed up shades look unappealing at a glance but on many levels very much remind me of Riff Raff’s sunken in eyes, grayish skin, and stringy hair! I don’t think the cooler shades will be everybody’s thing and all six used together seem like a no go but with a little imagination you can create some fairly nice looks with this palette. Most of the shades had a fairly nice formula with good pigmentation but I ran into one or two shades that were a bit dry! Carbon (matte) was dry and patchy in my opinion and best suited for an eyeliner versus using it as an all over shadow shade! I also thought Blackberry was a bit on the drier side. The other shades proved quite buttery, soft, with a velvety texture that applied with no fall out. There are shades you can mix and match your way through for a smoky eye look but on a whole things can get confusing fast here in my opinion as you’re looking at some traditional shades of smoky eye colors paired up with soft lilac and burgundy ….for the amateur makeup user, well, it can be a little difficult to pair shades like this up together!

I dunno if the MAC Riff-Raff Eyeshadow Palette is something you’d use daily but for fans of the Rocky Horror Show Picture Show, well, it’s a no brainer to grab this one up!

Is the MAC Riff-Raff Eyeshadow Palette bound for your collection?

These are a great collection of colors for folks with grey eyes who want to do some dramatic looks, regardless of skin tone; I have a lot of similar colors I use all the time when I want to do an eye-focused look.

I had one item I wanted in this collection – the red pigment – and I waited all damn morning until I had to go to an hourlong meeting. When I got back to my desk, it was sold out. I’m a little ashamed by the first world-iness of this problem but: SEEERIOUSLY? ><

The packaging does nothing for me, but I do like the colors. They’re a bit unconventional but that’s fine 🙂

I have the inside print as a pair of PJ bottoms that i got from Torrid years ago when they used to be cool.
