About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. Is it just me, or is the news of holiday sets more exciting than the actual holidays?? I love it!

  • amy

I’ve been skipping the tarte Holiday offerings over the last couple of years, but I may have have to indulge with the Bon Voyage set, and the blush set…

  • mary brenner

I need the blush set and the ulta oui we go see AND the little mini blush set from tarred dite. Can not ever ever EVER have enough blush *or lipstick*

  • jennfer

I will have to get the blush set-Pin up Girl. I use the Off the Cuff Blush set like it almost everyday.

  • JoElla

Okay not to be a debbie downer, but is the Bon Voyage palette really new, or new like lets pretend it is QVC new? It really looks like last years TSV packaging.

Or.. BRAND NEW STUFF! And I will need it because it matches that set 😉

    • Isabella Muse

hard to say considering I haven’t seen the palette in person yet Tabassum.

  • Maddy

ogosh. I really “need” the portable collector’s set! But I bought the be mattenificent palette and I also just bought the rainforest after dark palette. How many more gorgeous palettes is tarte going to come out with!? :((

  • melanie

Let the Holiday posts begin….love Tarte and boy the wish list is growing. Can’t wait to see what will be offered on QVC

  • Maria

Love all the sets. The eyeshadow set looks like the same set in the Tarte bow and go Qvc special set second shipment from auto delivery. Muse when you find out the eye color shades, please let me and other Tarte girls know. Thanks.

  • Christina D.

There I was, trying to determine how to buy only the palette from the Bon Voyage set. Then I find out that Marc Jacobs has new palettes! Problem solved MJ wins hands down.

  • Dusty

That portable, travel set thing is the coolest thing I’ve seen… possibly all year. And that big set with the palette!! That’s the holiday set I get myself every year! Tarte makes my favorite holiday stuff – probably because it’s stuff I actually end up using! Haha!

  • CatG

Was waiting on these!! They all look great! I’d say the first one intrigues me the most!

  • kimkats

Now, you ARE going to get the Bon Voyage set, aren’t you, Muse? After all, they named the blush in it after you! 😀 (I’m sure they did…. They HAD to have!) 😀

  • Amber

I want it all lol! I agree. The holiday sets are way more exciting than the actual holidays lol. Unless my son visits, then it’s even steven lol

  • Maria A

OMG OMG OMG (screeeeeeeaming) I am so excited that I cannot contain myself. I am not skipping on the blush pallet. Do we know the launch date? I am super excited.

  • Monica

The blush pallet I need! Ever since my Amazonian Clay blush broke from last years set, I’ve been obsessed with getting another one. I didn’t like it at first but I really miss it now that I don’t have it. The only that kinda upset me is that the eyeshadow pallet from last year is MADE IN CHINA!!! I wasn’t real thrilled to find that out. Even a lot of drugstore lines aren’t made in China anymore.but gosh darn I love that blush!!

    • noona

The pin up blush palette is actually made in China too. It upsets me. Just got it in my mail today. However the colors of the blushes are amazing anyway.

  • Jackie

Will definitely get the blush palette and most likely the Ulta palette too…I normally love Tarte’s holiday palettes from Sephora but this one looks a lot like the QVC Bow & Go palette from April…I love Tarte’s eyeshadows but do we really need another eyeshadow palette of neutrals? With all that said, I may still end up getting it, LOL.

  • Cindy Lance

Do you know if the shadows in the Tarte Bon Voyage Collector’s Set are mostly matte? Its hard to tell from the picture. I hope so because I’m a matte eyeshadow lover!

    • Isabella Muse

i haven’t seen it in person yet so not sure cindy but typically tarte does a mix of both shimmer/matte!

      • Tami

I have it..12 are matte/8 shimmer – It does have a good variation but more are matte with the large palette. The matte peaches/pinks reminded me of the mattnficent pallete if you missed out on that one. (like I did) – The only qualm I had was in that it contained so many dark shades. It needed more transition shades but Tarte shades apply more sheer which is a good thing and I think part of it was in how the palette was laid out. (maybe) – I do like the palette alot though. The pink/peach mattes will be handy for me. The ulta one has a great mix of lighter & dark. That’s why I got that one as well..for that part & the blushes. Tarte usually does mix it up well with shimmer/matte however the large palette contains more matte than shimmer. For me, this was an enticing thing (bonus) though I can pull off their shimmers pretty well & I’m not a shimmer fan. I checked out the QVC one..it seems all 3 of the palettes are variations of neutrals. I only passed on it b/c the 2 others are more than enough for me. (especially in that it’s neutrals)- The QVC one looks like a gem for a person new to Tarte.

  • LipstickHoarder

Um okay. Thank you Muse for having me go to Stop n Shop to collect boxes that we may have to live in if I make these purchases. LOL. Omgosh, that Tarte Away Oui Go Portable is soooo fn smart! And all that for only $48?! Be still my beating heart! Also the Tarte Pin Up Girl! Do you think that they will have coupons and we can use it on those holiday palettes? I’m not too familiar with the past holiday makeup sales. Also, do you think QVC or HSN will have it?

    • Isabella Muse

LMAO you’re nuts 😀 hahahaha! QVC/HSN won’t have these…each is exclusive to a particular store…these are ulta/sephora exclusives. HSN doesn’t sell Tarte and QVC will likely have exclusives that are different from sets at Sephora/Ulta as well as a Today’s Special Value in November likely. tarte does do an FF around the Holidays but not sure if it will include Holiday Sets but I’m crossing fingers it will!

      • LipstickHoarder

Ooh cannot wait for the FF then. And what about Sephoras 20% off? Will that be for every one of only for VIB? Also, I really do hope these will still be around even after Christmas. My plan is to get both that I mentioned earlier.

Also, quick question, for the portable palette, are the eyeshadows interchangeable as well? Hold on, that green one thats the portable case yes? And I can put whatever blush and eyeshadows I want in their yes?

        • Isabella Muse

they typically have one every year so hopefully nothing has changed 🙂 I doubt they’d not have it 🙂 I don’t actually have it nor have I seen it in person but the green one is supposed to be portable and interchangeable from my understanding 🙂 not for the blush but for the shadows?! but can’t confirm!

  • Aree Anas

Omg, Tarte is killing me (my wallet) with their Holiday 2014 Collection! I am definitely getting the Away Oui Go, though.

  • Diany Moony

I kind of expected more out of the color choice for this year’s holiday Tarte collections. I liked the color palette for “The tarte of giving collector’s set & travel bag” better since it has more variety of shades for the eyes and the lips. Even the After Dark fall collection was more impressive in presentation. If I have to choose one of the items of the Tarte collection for this Holiday I would pick the kiss & belle
deluxe LipSurgence lip set available on tartecosmetics.com. No offense to the ladies loving the delicacy of these collections. I do get the more natural look vibe through them, but between last year and this year collections, I’ll pick last year’s again.

  • Lady Literary

I am chomping at the bit to get my hands on that blush palette! I am honestly slightly meh on their shadows, give me Urban Decay or Bareminerals over Tarte any day of the week for shadow, because I find they aren’t super pigmented or true to colour. But their blushes are the best. And I love the shade range, you could travel with it and not need any other blushes! I also want the 4 blushes from the website. Basically I love me some blushes.

    • Tami

lol. That much I agree with myself…as much as I love Tarte, I’d like to see new colors. I think Urban Decay started all of this and it’s been a runaway train since. Urban Decay has the Vice ones now but they are “too much” with the shimmer for me.

  • Tami

I am a Tarte ADDICT. I’m not in my 20s anymore so these shadows work so well on me – even the shimmery ones are not too much. They look smooth, nice & not too much. Thanks for posting when they will be out b/c they sell out fast. I will ready to pounce on both in October! I tried to get the blush palette last time and missed it 🙁

    • Isabella Muse

COULDN’T agree more! I’m the same. Drier eyes, finely lined and they work incredibly well for me!

    • Isabella Muse

hi abbie I listed on each item where they would be available. sets are exclusive to certain stores! Hope this helps!

  • Amanda

Some of these, including the blush palette are available on Sephoras site right now .:)
I just recently got last years “off the cufF” blush one, and I am glad I did because I do not like the packaging on this one.

Don’t forget all the AWESOME holiday sets you can get early access to on tartes sight right now.

I bought a bunch of holiday stuff off there, some really good deals, including the “brushed with destiny” brush set, 5 brushes and a bag for $44! Such an epic deal, considering I have bought their brushes for $32 for ONE.

Got my eye on bon voyage, but agree it looks a bit like the bow and go, I will have to really look at my bow and go one before I buy. Also thinking I am going to grab “everything nice” from too faced.

    Yay for holiday sets!! 😀

  • Ellie

I love Tarte’s face products but so far the eyeshadows have been a miss for me. I really like the look of the Bon Voyage shadow palette but am worried I will be disappointed. Muse are you going to do a review and swatches of the Tarte Holiday Collection? Pretty please!!! I’m also lusting after the Laura Geller 20 shades of baked. Which do you recommend? Thanks Muse! Your the best!

  • Marilynn

I want it allllllllll!!!! I’ve been reading your blog forever and I’m a total lurker. I’m not one who usually comments on anything ever. I’m trying to break out of that shell. I just wanted to let you know, I’m a fan. 😉

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks girl! so glad you decided to say hey today! I can’t blame ya it’s a fab collection!

  • Musja

Isabella, I saw a picture of the back of Pin Up Palette and it says “made in China”. I wonder is it the packaging made in China or the blushes themselves are also made in China? There is no way I am puting made in China products on my face! Help please :)?

    • Isabella Muse

I can’t confirm Musja, I’m just assuming both? but I’m not sure. You might wanna tweet Tarte or email CS and ask?

  • Kimberly

Pardon me if everyone already knows this or you posted it already, but I just hopped onto the Tarte site for a moment and a pop-up box appeared offering a 20% off coupon on Tarte.com if you provided your e-mail address. Any % off always helps me!

I’ve been debating whether to get the big Sephora holiday Tarte set or the Ulta one. I’m leaning toward Ulta, especially since I bought TWO of the awesome Sephora big holiday collections last year. The colors in both the Ulta & Sephora kits look much more muted than last year from the online ads, but I haven’t seen either in person yet. I am very impatiently waiting to see what (if anything) QVC will have. Any word or even rumors on a date for that yet? Last year’s QVC Tarte Holiday multi box set was an awesome deal. I was able to gift all 3 boxes to different recipients confident that each was a nice gift on it’s own.

OT here – but I am also scouting for the nicest beauty advent calendar that I can afford. Any suggestions, ladies? Last year I was lucky enough to read about the Benefit’s calendar here on Musings and ordered it immediately before it sold out. It was really nice and I’m still using the products. This years is about 40% higher in price with no indication that it is better than last year’s. I’ve so coveted the Selfridge’s beauty advent calendar in recent years but it is both super-expensive and hard to get my hands on. Oh well… This IS what the holidays are all about, right? Cheers!

    • Ellie

Hi Kimberly! The QVC holiday set is up on their website you just need to search the item number A264305! It has full size products and looks like the best set to me! Enjoy!

  • Tami

I got the Sephora collection: eye palette set, blush palette & 2 packages of the lip products..I got the Ulta exclusive as well as 2 of the blush packages and the $10 extra from sephora and $19 cheek stain set from Ulta. I’m actually “tarted” out at the moment and didn’t think that could happen. But that is enough Tarte for one person lol! Since Tarte is my favorite brand, I can forgive myself for this over indulgence as I like to load up on their holiday collections. I did check out the QVC collection and it’s very nice. In my opinion, it’s probably the best set for someone who is new to Tarte since it contains a bit of so much. I could not condone getting it for myself only because I have more than enough to last throughout next year and all of the palettes are different variations of neutrals. As a tarte fan and veteran of the product, I would say if you are new to Tarte, check out QVC. There’s a nice roundup of shadows, full size lippes & blushes as well as the liners, mascara. Just my 2 cents worth on which I’d consider the best buy for those new to the brand and not sure in what they’d want. As for me, I’m all set and ready to see colors other than pink, brown, purple…beige, peach, gray…you get it.
