Urban Decay Vice 31

Guess what? Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette ($60) releases tomorrow, September 13th, along with the rest of the Urban Decay Holiday 2014 Collection.

The Vice3 Palette is the third edition in the Urban Decay Vice Eyeshadow Palette range and I had to scratch my head a second because I still thought we were on 2. Time flies when you’re having fun in the makeup world doesn’t it?

This new limited edition palette has twenty ALL NEW, exclusive eyeshadow shades. They are dubbed as limited edition but Urban Decay has been known to gift us with a relaunch here are there so you can take that LE label with a little grain of salt.

Take a look!

Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette Pouch

Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette is possibly one of my favorite Vice releases in terms of packaging. They really went all out with this compact. It’s a gorgeous, slick palette with a HUGE mirror and it even has a sleeve/makeup pouch to hold it in which can be double up as a sleeve for a Kindle or iPad mini should you like! It has an abstract stripe design with a bright neon jeweled “Vice” gracing the front and a metallic grassy green back. The pouch is handy because this bad boy collects fingerprints like pokemon cards. You’ll want to store it in the sleeve when you’re not using it to keep it nice and neat. Hell, if I were Urban Decay I’d have shipped it out with a micro cloth that I could wipe it down with after I’m done using it. Needless to say it’s a wicked little piece of beautiful and it reeks the attitude and edge that is Urban Decay’s personality!

Urban Decay Vice3 Palette

Possibly the most exciting aspect of the palette is the option of twenty NEW shades to play with. As a Urban Decay Eyeshadow fan I know I always want brand new colors to play. Why? Because my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Collection is VAST and I have all the shades from the general catalog so of course I want something brand new! I don’t know a single makeup junkie who doesn’t want new shades and this brings it in the form of twenty never before seen shades (I imagine there’s a dupe or two down the road but I honestly didn’t compare to shades I already owned! Sorry!).

One of the things I loved most about the palette was the mattes. Gulp, did I just say I liked mattes? After trying out the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette I was very impressed with the soft, silky texture of those shades. I think Urban Decay successfully brings some of that to Vice3. However, I should mention that the mattes and ALL of the other shades had a very loosely packed formula. I was kinda surprised as they aren’t as dense as I’m typically used too. Granted dense could translate to dry…but in the case of Urban Decay I find they have a nicely packed, pigmented shadow but with Vice3 I’m seeing a very loosely packed shadow. This translates into a lot of powdery kick up. I feel like I’m wasting so much eyeshadow when I swipe my brush in a shade because layers of shadow powder up with the gentlest of swipes. Thankfully this doesn’t mean they are chalky! The shades pack pigment that’s for sure but in some cases they also felt a little bit different from the single eyeshadows but still feel buttery with a velvety texture.

Each shadow weights in at 0.03 oz in size versus the standard single shade of 0.05 oz so you are getting a good deal of product here. Plus I didn’t count the great double ended brush they included with the palette. This includes a blending and shadow brush with a bright grassy green metallic handle for application.

Another thing that stands out about this palette is some of the great shades. For example Sonic, is a gorgeous red cranberry and Brokedown is a stunning khaki brown. There are also a few shades I wasn’t terribly impressed with such as Revolver and Defy which felt a bit stiff and dry to me. Glitter fans will be happy to know NONE of these shades have chunky microglitter. All have a very smooth, soft feel with minimal chunky glittery and shimmer.

The fact of the matter is Urban Decay has some hardcore fans that are going to adore the Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette and it’s understandable why. This palette packs some great shades that combine not only neutral but also bold colors! No one can say the Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette doesn’t deliver variety for the Holidays!

The question is, will you haul it?

Urban Decay Vice3 launches tomorrow at urbandecay.com and should be available in October from Sephora, Sephora.com, Ulta, Ulta.com, beauty.com, Macys, and macys.com.

As you know, I cannot wait to get this! In fact, I want it so much I am holding off on ordering the new Marc Jacobs Style Eye Con No. 7 palette (but I will eventually get that, too)!

  • Kary

Muse what a great review and swatches! After seeing Temptalia’s review I was really considering not getting it, I only want it as a “collector’s” item HAHA but after seeing your swatches I changed my mind. I really like the rich reddish shades and they seen to be so in right now with all the rage of Makeup Geek and Anastasia with shades like Morocco and stuff.

Thanks for your review Muse! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure kary! I hope you like it! Temptalia is always SPOT and way better describing it than I am 🙂 i love the red shades! They’ll look awesome with paired with some gold for the Holidays yes? 😀

Dear Muse, you are so humble and not competitive . love your humorous style of writing and the pictures

  • auroragyps

I really, really wish UD would come out with some different shades of green besides different versions of grass green, olive, and blackened green. How about a amped up version of Acid Rain? How about a minty green? I’m just a bit bored.

  • JJ24

Great review, love the Pokemon card reference. I’m on the fence with this palette and will have to check it out in person before making that finale decision.

  • Fancie

So beautiful! I was planning on skipping this but the swatches just look so nice! I see say a lot of colors I like and the packaging is really cute. I don’t need anymore palettes but a part of me still wants this lol

  • Viki

Wow, the colors look so pretty! I like how the colors turn out a lot btter on your skin than on the palette itself. When I saw the palette at first, I thought I was going to skip out on this one but seeing how the sheen of 95% of the colors turn out, I’m definitely going to get this. Oh man, what to do with my wallet…

  • Danadoo

I really want this just for “sonic” and “bondage”. Ive got green eyes and have been wanting reddish shades to make them pop. However, reds can be super tricky and end up looking like ive got an eye infection..not cute at all. I think the shimmer in these shades will make them look quite lovely! My birthday is coming up and ill be begging for this!

  • Ashley

These colors are so pretty, thanks for providing the swatches. I like the first set of colors swatched. The mauves. Really an awesome palette. Just purchased some Urban Decay, thanks to one of your posts. I think it was called Sephora’s $10 and under. I bought the eye shadow holder. The packaging on that was really cool. All of their products are quality.

  • Maggie

I’ll have to swatch and touch in person. I’m LOVING the color selection, the packaging and the absence of chunky glitter. However, several bloggers have remarked on the texture not being up too par to the normal UD texture as a whole. This worries me a bit as some have said the same about Shadow Box–I hope this isn’t signaling the new “feel” of the shadows.

  • JenJ

Awesome swatches! I saw another one and had me going meh about the palette. Now let me rethink some thangs lol 😀

  • Joanna

Base on swatches on other blogs, I honestly was did not like the palette. However, looking at your swatches has me second guessing to get it. It’s an ideal palette. So pretty!

  • krankenheim

The thing I find the most interesting is that no one has mentioned that this palette doesn’t say Vice 3 on it. It only says Vice. Vice 2 said what it was, this one doesn’t. That’s strange! I actually would have liked it to say Vice 3.

Besides that though I honestly don’t know if I’ll get this for myself – maybe as a gift for someone else. There are a lot of neutral colors and I already have all the Naked palettes and both Naked Basics. I don’t need more neutrals. I understand why they’ve done it, though, to appeal to a wider audience. But for me this palette is a little disappointing. I was hoping for more color.

  • dia

Love love the packaging, but have too many dupes for the actual colors. With the metallic acid green they were using, I was hoping for more bright colors like the Electric palette.

  • MizzJ

The packaging and swatches look so great, but not sure when I would use most of these colors as I don’t get to wear crazy colors everyday 🙁

    • krankenheim

Take a second glance! You’ll see that most of the colors are quite wearable for everyday. Personally, I consider 14 of the shadows neutrals. But it’s easy to say at least 12 are. This would be a good palette for someone who doesn’t get to wear color often and contains a few pops of color for when you want to try something new, or have the opportunity to.

  • Emma

Lawd, the packaging. It looks exactly like something else but I can’t tell what. Love it! And the colors are so pretty..

  • Rebecca

Love the packaging but there are so many good pallettes out at the moment its hard to choose which ones to haul!

  • Hez

Hey Musey Pie! 🙂 I was gonna ask you about that chunky glitter.. good to know there is none here yey. This looks very cool.

  • Shannon

Hey Muse, I must say I was going to pass on this palette because I have the original and can’t touch half a dozen of the shades, they’re simpley too (chunky) glittery to even be useable. How was the under-eye/face fallout with these shades? I’m adoring the aquamarine and reddish/pinky/orange-y tones, I’ve been having such trouble finding a good orangey crease shade to make my eye makeup look “glowy”. Awesome review!:-)

  • Beezy1978

Good LORD Miss Muse!!! Lol! I was just searching looks for Vice Ltd., which I’ve owned for all of three days and now you’ve got me convinced i need THIS Vice, as well!!! I’m another green-eyed gal chasing the reds of vice 3 now… *sigh*
😁 I gonna git this one, too!
    Imma be broke…
But my eyes will be GORGE!!😉😉😉
