Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Guess what? Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette ($60) releases tomorrow, September 13th, along with the rest of the Urban Decay Holiday 2014 Collection.
The Vice3 Palette is the third edition in the Urban Decay Vice Eyeshadow Palette range and I had to scratch my head a second because I still thought we were on 2. Time flies when you’re having fun in the makeup world doesn’t it?
This new limited edition palette has twenty ALL NEW, exclusive eyeshadow shades. They are dubbed as limited edition but Urban Decay has been known to gift us with a relaunch here are there so you can take that LE label with a little grain of salt.
Take a look!
Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette is possibly one of my favorite Vice releases in terms of packaging. They really went all out with this compact. It’s a gorgeous, slick palette with a HUGE mirror and it even has a sleeve/makeup pouch to hold it in which can be double up as a sleeve for a Kindle or iPad mini should you like! It has an abstract stripe design with a bright neon jeweled “Vice” gracing the front and a metallic grassy green back. The pouch is handy because this bad boy collects fingerprints like pokemon cards. You’ll want to store it in the sleeve when you’re not using it to keep it nice and neat. Hell, if I were Urban Decay I’d have shipped it out with a micro cloth that I could wipe it down with after I’m done using it. Needless to say it’s a wicked little piece of beautiful and it reeks the attitude and edge that is Urban Decay’s personality!
Possibly the most exciting aspect of the palette is the option of twenty NEW shades to play with. As a Urban Decay Eyeshadow fan I know I always want brand new colors to play. Why? Because my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Collection is VAST and I have all the shades from the general catalog so of course I want something brand new! I don’t know a single makeup junkie who doesn’t want new shades and this brings it in the form of twenty never before seen shades (I imagine there’s a dupe or two down the road but I honestly didn’t compare to shades I already owned! Sorry!).
One of the things I loved most about the palette was the mattes. Gulp, did I just say I liked mattes? After trying out the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette I was very impressed with the soft, silky texture of those shades. I think Urban Decay successfully brings some of that to Vice3. However, I should mention that the mattes and ALL of the other shades had a very loosely packed formula. I was kinda surprised as they aren’t as dense as I’m typically used too. Granted dense could translate to dry…but in the case of Urban Decay I find they have a nicely packed, pigmented shadow but with Vice3 I’m seeing a very loosely packed shadow. This translates into a lot of powdery kick up. I feel like I’m wasting so much eyeshadow when I swipe my brush in a shade because layers of shadow powder up with the gentlest of swipes. Thankfully this doesn’t mean they are chalky! The shades pack pigment that’s for sure but in some cases they also felt a little bit different from the single eyeshadows but still feel buttery with a velvety texture.

Each shadow weights in at 0.03 oz in size versus the standard single shade of 0.05 oz so you are getting a good deal of product here. Plus I didn’t count the great double ended brush they included with the palette. This includes a blending and shadow brush with a bright grassy green metallic handle for application.
Another thing that stands out about this palette is some of the great shades. For example Sonic, is a gorgeous red cranberry and Brokedown is a stunning khaki brown. There are also a few shades I wasn’t terribly impressed with such as Revolver and Defy which felt a bit stiff and dry to me. Glitter fans will be happy to know NONE of these shades have chunky microglitter. All have a very smooth, soft feel with minimal chunky glittery and shimmer.
The fact of the matter is Urban Decay has some hardcore fans that are going to adore the Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette and it’s understandable why. This palette packs some great shades that combine not only neutral but also bold colors! No one can say the Urban Decay Vice3 Eyeshadow Palette doesn’t deliver variety for the Holidays!
The question is, will you haul it?
