Too Faced Under the Mistletoe Set Review & Swatches
The Too Faced Under the Mistletoe Set ($28) is a new, limited edition set of La Creme Shimmering Lip Cream Lipsticks that launched with the Too Faced Holiday 2014 Collection.
I suspect this set is a launch pad for the new La Creme Shimmering Lip Cream formula as one of the shades will apparently get a re-release with the Too Faced Spring 2015 Collection so perhaps, just maybe we’ll see more of the La Creme Shimmering Lip Cream formula in the future.
However, one can hope it’ll improve when and if it does re-release.
As a HUGE lover of the Too Faced La Creme Lip Cream Lipstick formula I was so excited about the aspect of a shimmering finish on these gorgeous lipsticks. If you recall Maybelline successfully injected shimmer into a few of their Color Whisper Lipsticks and as far as I’m concerned it was a smashing success. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same happened for Too Faced.

The set itself is a most excellent value housing three full size lipsticks and a cute glittery mini makeup bag! If you purchased the shades by themselves it would set you back $66 plus you wouldn’t get a bag! This set is a mere $28 so you are getting a value here.
The bag is adorable! Pink, metallic, glittery! Yes, please. But I’m reluctant to use it because it leaves a trial of glitter everywhere! Hands, face, bottom of my purse! Ugh!
But really the most disappointing aspect of the set are the lipsticks! This formula isn’t loving me at all. They aren’t as creamy as the originals nor do they have that nice slick moist feel. When I apply I feel like they tug a bit and color falls into the natural lines of my lips and sits unnaturally on top them. The shimmer appears more frosty to me so I kinda feel it creates a very mod Twiggy look versus the slick, moist shiny, sparkly formula I expected. In some ways, they feel semi-matte versus the more moist, high sheen finish we get from the original La Creme finish. You can feel the glitter a bit, it isn’t really gritty but it does make itself known during application and wear.

Too Faced Shimmering Spice Spice Baby
Shimmering Naked Dolly and Shimmering Marshmallow Bunny are unfortunately very zombie-like on my lips but might be more suitable on a lighter skin ton with less pigmented lips than my own. The exception here, for me, and my skin tone, was Shimmering Spice Spice Baby which is a nice peachy golden coral! The formula was a little smoother and the color was easier to wear without looking ghastly. Unfortunately the worst offenders were Shimmering Naked Dolly and Shimmering Marshmallow Bunny which were very streaky, uneven, and patchy on lips.
I wanna be able to tell you SO many great things about the Too Faced Under the Mistletoe Set! The value is here for sure and the idea of a new and exciting La Creme finish is also here but the formula needs a lot of work for me to get on board with. IF and WHEN Too Faced launches a new Shimmering La Creme Lipstick I’m hoping it’ll turn out better!
