MAC Heirloom Mix Pressed Pigment Review & Swatches
There are eight new shades of limited edition shades of MAC Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow that are launching with the MAC Heirloom Mix Holiday 2014 Collection that will be available next week on counters!
If you love shimmery shades of eyeshadow I’m sure the MAC Heirloom Mix Pressed Pigment Eyeshadows might be on your wish list but personally I’m not a huge fan.
MAC Pressed Pigment isn’t a new product. MAC has released the product in two prior collections. There’s are actually the same size as a normal MAC Eyeshadow weighting in at 0.04 oz where as upon their original release Pressed Pigments were a larger 0.10 oz size and more expensive at $21 versus the smaller size prived at $19.50.
MAC markets these for wet or dry use which give a high shine, sparkly finish when used dry and a more luminous metallic appearance used wet. I actually find them too shimmery for my tastes. The formula is quite dense for something that appears flaky in the pan and they apply with a good deal of fall out. They kinda remind me of a cross between Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadows and Urban Decay Stardust Eyeshadow. I find using a sponge eyeshadow applicator to apply is the best way to get color on lids and to avoid any fall out issues as you can pat them gently into place. They aren’t gritty and have a fairly smooth texture although they are pretty darn firm. I find the shades are best used alone versus together as blending colors ends up creating a bit of a muddy mess and you won’t find the colors are easy to tell apart when used together. In this case, I limit to using a single shade or perhaps another matte shade from my collection but never two Pressed Pigments in the same look. They do tend to crease on me and fade away easily so a good primer base (Too Faced Glitter Primer might be a good place to start) will keep things in order.

MAC went with a glossy black lacquer case this year that’s dusted with fine silver shimmer on each individual shadow pot. It’s a very nice 3D looking effect and the compact has a smooth finish so you aren’t feeling the gritty glitter nor is their fall out going on from the case. Each piece in the Heirloom Mix Collection features the same glittery black compacts!
If you have patience and a lighter hand (I’m heavy handed) you can create some nice sparkly looks with these shadows. Personally, they are a little TOO much work for me.
The MAC Heirloom Mix Pressed Pigment will be available October 19th on counters.
