Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar

I’m venturing into the world of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar! Yesterday I was reviewing some OCC Stained Gloss and I had mentioned I was a little scared of the Lip Tar formula! I thought it would be super thick, super matte, and super drying but I’m kinda shocked…

I purchased Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Zhora and it so not what I expected. I was under the impression that the OCC formula would be as thick as Sleek Makeup’s Pout Paint but these are actually super glossy…plus the shade I got has a ton of shimmer so what happened to all the matte finish? More importantly who cares because I hate mattes anyway!

The Lip Tar formula is actually quite runny, thin in consistency and has a glossy finish on the initial application. In the tube the shade I purchased, Zhora, did scare me as it’s a beige tan. On my lips though it turns into a delightful shade of nude golden beige with a shimmery gold finish. OCC includes a lip brush for application with each of their Lip Tars but this shade seems to have a knack for accentuating every single little natural line on my lips as well as any flakiness or dryness so I apply with my finger to get a smooth, even finish (a little clear gloss on top won’t hurt either to give it an even smoother appearance). As I said initially I get a lot of shine but as the color settles it goes a bit more semi-matte but doesn’t feel uncomfortable, tight, or dry. The color wears around three hours on my lips before fading away!

I can see why everyone is addicted to these Lip Tars. I’m liking them a lot. I had application issues yes but all in all these colors and the ability to mix and match shades can become an obsession quickly I see!

Likey!

So glad you’re liking these! My signature color is a bold coral made with their Electric Grandma + Super NSFW, it’s AWESOME. These work very well over a clear lip liner if you have one, it helps with the smoothness and feathering, which they can be prone to. I’ll also use the lighter shades to toss a highlight on a standard lipstick.

ok might have to get those shades and mix hehe 😀 I love coral! 😀 I wanna get their primer and see if that helps!

I very much like this color, especially when I’m going for a more natural look!!

I didn’t see you mention the price, though?

I’ve been waiting for ages for you to review Lip Tar. I don’t think they’re anything spectacular. I exfoliate my lips & use their lip primer with it & meh. It’s supposed to last for hours on your lips & on me I get maybe an hour. I do like their Lip Primer under other Matte lipsticks, like my beloved Maybeliine ones. Thank you for the review!!

I like them so far Monica! I think they are def over hyped though but from what I tried so far I like 😀 my pleasure!!!!!!!

Hi Muse! I think the reason that the formula feels a bit thinner is because Zhora is one of the metallic lip tars. three of the five metallic lip tars I have (Pris, Yaoi, and Black Metal Dahlia) are thinner (the outliers are Roleplay and Technopagan, which are thicker like the regular lip tars, but are so worth it for the colors!). I do find that they have more of a tendency to separate in the tubes than the matte colors, so I like to give them a good squeeze before application.

I find that the matte ones are really more of a satin finish as opposed to a fully flat matte, but that can be a bit drying (I have super dry lips though so there’s that). They can also be hard to apply, since if you use too much they feather like crazy. Still, I find them really fun to play around with! And shouldn’t makeup be fun? 🙂 Thanks for the review!

thanks ari! it actually says matte lip tar on the tube so I was surprised that it felt so thin! thanks for clearing that up 🙂 i actually purchased a few metallics and they all say metallic so def confused there 😀 I had a problem with them looking patchy so I need to kinda smooth them out with my finger as they fall into my natural lip lines with out a little help but they sure are fun to play way and I can see why they are addicting 😀 my pleasure thanks for giving me the heads up on the finish!

Make sure your lip tars are mixed, too! they tend to separate which makes them more sheer and glossy. Zhora isn’t as over all pigmented as many of the shades, but yes a gentle shake or flipping them around how they’re sitting before use can do wonnnnders.

They’re a great product though, and get much easier to use with a little bit of practice. Lip brushes or those disposable lip gloss applicators are definitely the way to go, though.

I noticed that Alex! I def see they come out thicker if I give them a good shake 😀
