Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer Review & Swatches
Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer is a newly launched lipgloss that accompanies the new Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick formula. These glosses are pretty darn awesome with crazy pigmentation, opaque color, and a shiny finish.
But they aren’t without a few minor quirks!
Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer will be available in 12 permanent shades and are launching now in drugstores for the Fall/Winter 2014 season. Initially I loved everything about these glosses! The packaging is simple with a mirrored cap and a little surprise diamond decorating the tip (cute extra Revlon!) and considerably nicer than what we’ve seen from the Ultra HD Lipstick packaging. Each gloss has a short bristled brush for application which at first I LOVED…! I have a thing for lip brushes and I know people rant that they split and they end up become a mucky mess but I love them however, I’ll explain in a few why I ended up hating this applicator…!
This formula is pretty awesome. I’d call it a hybrid liquid lipstick slash gloss. I tried one metallic shade, two creams, and a shimmer and ALL had incredible pigment. I think the creams were by far the best in terms of rich opaque color with the metallic and shimmer coming up close behind. These have a thick texture with a very slightly tacky texture that’s slick and creamy with a high lacquer shine. I’m not really sure what the “HD” references but it could mean a smooth, flawless finish which these do provide to some extent. They wear for about four to five hours. I noticed the creams wore for the longest and the shimmer/metallic about an hour less than the cream. Unlike the Ultra HD Lipstick formula they do not have a flavor or fragrance that I detected.
I think these are beautiful. The formula is excellent, pigmented, easy to apply. However, I think a sponge applicator MIGHT have yielded better application. The lip brush is handy and I love it but I found that it applied color a little sloppy. I felt I needed some sort of colored or transparent lip liner to keep color from migrating during application and well after the product had set. I don’t have finer lines around my lips but these tended to creep above and below my lip line and migrated a lot. It’s a minor quirk for such a great drugstore formula but it could be irritating and deserves mentioning.

On the upside during the wear color remains true and vibrant with an incredible lasting lacquer shine. Yeah, it does migrate but you might be lucky and not experience the issue (personally it was a probably for me!).
Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer isn’t completely perfect but it comes pretty close! Excellent texture, pigment, long wear, and a high shine make for a beautiful lipgloss experience but some migration issues might be an issue for some!
P.S. I know some folks really love duochrome finishes and I felt like HD Citrine is a great duochrome as it’s orange but reflects greenish as well!
