Curing Patchy, Dry Facial Skin

Curing patchy, dry facial skin has become my personal quest as I happen to have drier, patchy skin on my cheeks. I once had a Chanel SA tell me that I had combo skin. I was with my friend Jai at the time and she was telling me this and I gave him the shifty “What’s she smoking?” eye look. See, I’d have believed her if she had said as such in the Summer because I can get a little T-Zone oily fun in the warmer weather. But it was dead Winter!

Anyway!

I struggle with patchy, drier areas on my face a good deal but lately it’s worst. I told you about my itchy neck epidemic recently and finding a cure for that now here’s a way for curing patchy, dry facial skin for ya.

And it’s cheap as chips too!

Curing my dry facial skin doesn’t cost me $50 dollars not even a $100! It’s just $4 bucks and I don’t need to head to Nordstrom or a high end department to grab my cure all, I just head to the drugstore.

When I’m seeing super dry areas on my face I use Curel Ultra Healing Lotion for Extra Dry Skin on my face. Nobody panic, it’s ok, I know it seems like it’s body lotion but check the bottle you can use it on your face too!

I was experiencing issues last night with dryness. I kinda sorta think the culprit might be my DHC Cleansing Oil but needless to say my skin was extra tight and I had little flaky areas pop up along my jawline and cheeks after cleansing my face last night. So…before I went to bed I skipped my normal skincare regime and I slathered my face with Curel. In the morning, my skin was smooth, soft, flake-free and my makeup went on easily!

Now I wouldn’t use it daily….! But if you have issues with dry, patchy, or even flaky areas on your face I’d suggest giving Curel Ultra Heling Lotion a try. It might surprise you how well it works on your face (as well as your body)!

And it won’t cost you millions of dollars.

How do you combat dry skin in the Winter?

Muse I’m so glad you like this lotion!! I’ve been using this for awhile because I can get extra dry skin on my lower back and elbows and this was the only thing to help my skin return to normal…and it sinks right in without leaving some narsty greasy residue! 😉 Victory!

    • Isabella Muse

YAY! 😀 I love this isn’t greasy! It absorbs for me easily too 😀

  • Brooke Jones

Muse, I so appreciate the posts on dealing with dry skin! I am dealing with persistent dry skin on my nose so I will definitely be trying this one. My daughter has eczema, so I will be trying both of your suggestions for her as well. The eczema has recently traveled to her neck, jawline, and eyelids…all places where she can’t use her prescription eczema cream. We bought CereVe cream last night at the recommendation of her dermatologist…I will let you know if that is a winner! As always, thank you for your recommendations…you are the best!

    • Isabella Muse

I’m happy to hear it Brooke! I hope this works for you! I had the same problem as your daughter over the summer. I noticed it on my eyelids as well so I started using argan oil on my lids and above my eyes. Thankfully it cleared up! Let me know if the cereve works as I’d like to tyr that. aw my pleasure my pleasure 🙂 <3! Good luck!

I have atopic eczema since I was a bub, which has recently flared up pretty badly.
I’ve been keeping it at bay by washing my face morning and night (and whenever I come into contact with allergens that flare up my eczema) with ‘Pond’s Cold Cream’ and then moisturise with ‘alpha kerri’ products. They are life saving! I’ve tried many products and these are the best if you can get your hands on them, and they’re much cheaper than other products aimed at eczema. Go see the doctor though, because there are prescription eczema ointments on the face and eyelids. Best of luck with treatment. Here’s hoping she grows out of it!

I have dry skin on my face. Don’t you love the winters in the Northeast? I also use a prescription retinol which doesn’t help matters at all. I find that jojoba oil works nicely, but I’m going to give this a try. Thanks Muse.

    • Isabella Muse

oh my pleasure kay! I use argan oil myself and it helps considerably 😀 I hope this works for you! And hey all I can say is thank god I’m not in Chicago hehe they are being slammed with extra cold weather today!

  • Andrea

have you considered the possibility of seborrheic dermatitis? I think that could itch as well.

    • Isabella Muse

it’s nothing as bad as seborrheic dermatitis… It’s smaller dry patches but nothing as scaly or peeling skin the way seborrheic dermatitis is.

  • d3athbyglitter

My skin has been berserk this entire year due to health problems. :/ It suck so much because just prior I had attained even, smooth, calm skin all over my face and neck for two whole years! It was like a miracle I never thought could happen. I was wearing neon lipstick with nothing but a dab of concealer under my eyes! But now…it’s the skin equivalent of a hysterical crying baby. *wince* Thank you so much for this. My skin is PAINFULLY DRY (it actually hurts!). My usual go-to’s are not working. I am buying this asap. Many, many thanks!!!!!!

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure deathbyglitter so so so sorry to hear it. Maybe stop using everything for a few days and just try a little of this and see if it helps! Feel better 🙁 you poor thing!

  • Amanda

Perhaps you should try Cicaplast from La Roche Posay. It’s pretty amazing. It helped my skin tremendously when I was on harsh acne meds that dried out my skin.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks for the rec Amanda, this worked for me so I’m gonna go ahead and stick with it 😀

  • auntymaim

Gurl, this couldn’t be more timely. I have always had oilslick skin, and just a few weeks ago the combination of age and winter weather hit me and I’m all like HOLY SHIT I HAVE DRYASS SKIN WHAT DO I EVEN DO?!!? I literally had no idea how to care for my skin and went two weeks with skin that was scaling and red like a burn because it was so dry – I didn’t even *know* what dry skin felt like! Finally I asked around, stopped using my beta hydroxy face wash, and lots of folks recommended Cerave but I don’t like parabens, instead I found Derma-E’s psorzema cream and it’s pretty good and $15! I layer a silicone wax barrier cream over it at night cause this business is SERIOUS. And I carry a little jar of one of my memebox creams around during the day and smear it on the worst spots every couple hours. But this curel cream looks great too and so cheap, I’ll keep it in mind when I run out of body lotion, thanks for the great rec!

The great injustice of all of this is that I still break out like crazy on my jaw when the hormones align, but now my skin is too irritable to tolerate any treatment so it just goes freakin wild. Unfair I tell you! 😀

    • Isabella Muse

awwwwww! hugs! It’s always scary when my skin goes weird and I have no idea how to care for it! aw you poor thing! Hugs I hope it clears up soon for ya chica!

  • Cj

Sounds like me and the cerave lotion. Love that stuff for winter. My skin goes from itchy flaky mess so soft supple baby butt lol.

    • Isabella Muse

I think you recommended me cerave cj! and I don’t think I tried it or I tried a little and didn’t give it a chance to work! I have to pick it back up!

      • Cj

You know what I think I remember telling you before too! There’s the PM version which is specifically for your face… But I’m cheap and just got the big bottle for your body XD it was like $10, and the ingredients are practically identical.

  • stef b

this does not surprise me, i totally used Curel (original) on my face when I was on Accutane. loved it

  • Gillie

Isn’t it a huge relief when you find something that makes your skin go “ahhhh” instead of “aiee!!!!” 🙂 I’m glad you found something, and that it’s cheap as chips. That’s the best of both worlds.

When my skin is really dry, I use oils, particularly jojoba packed on just before bed. The rest of the time, I hate to admit, I just use whatever is around, as long as it’s got SPF in it. I feel like, if I spoil my skin, it’ll get picky and I don’t want that!

    • Isabella Muse

YES YES YES ;-D I agree sometimes you can overdose on skincare and your skin just starts yelling to stop D:

  • Bridget

Hi muse i have extremely oily skin on my face but extremely dry on my body
i have never tried it on my face but vaseline is amazing on my keratosis arms! i use the cocoa radiant body and sometimes the original jar too it really takes away any itch and irritation!

    • Isabella Muse

bridget my mum swears by vaseline for everything and I agree it really does work great on skin irritations ;-D

  • Katherine T.

Curel is great. So is Yes to Coconut Hand & Cuticle Cream (can use on face, too) which has 0.5% Allantoin . I use it before bed, and it improves dry, cracked skin by like 90% overnight. I accidentally over-exfoliated/over-scrubbed my face one night, it was dry, tight, and cracking — put this cream on, and was amazed the next morning!

  • Patty

Thanks, Isabella! I have the itchy neck thing going on, as well. I will get some of this today!! I appreciate the tip!!

  • Rachel

Has anyone tried this for psoriasis? If not, what drugstore or over-the-counter lotions do people like for that terrrrrrible ailment?

  • Ame

I am trying the First Aid Beauty Ultra Healing Cream right now, and so far that’s working like a charm. I was a little concerned it might be too much for my face, but it’s doing a wonder on my weird flare up under my eye that Elidel isn’t even containing, and cleaned up my weird neck rash as well!

    • Isabella Muse

I heard first aid is great for sensitive, dry skin! I should try it! good luck ame hope it clears up!

  • kellly

I use Eucerin face lotion and cream, and if my skin feels like it needs an extra bit of help, I use Eucerin intensive repair cream and then put argan oil over it. I live in a very dry climate and am always searching for ways to keep the dryness from wrecking my skin.

  • Laura

I started to get eczema patches on my face when I was pregnant, and I used the aveeno baby eczema lotion.

  • Calimom

After having oily skin my whole life I suddenly have dry skin complete with dry peeling patches! I had to change my entire routine and by trial and error found some things that work finally. In the PM I remove makeup with Pond’s cold cream and wash with Johnson’s baby wash and my Clarisonic. I also use a homemade scrub of sugar, honey and olive oil after the Pond’s to get rid of scaly patches. I then use my Miracle Worker pads and eye treatment. wait a few minutes and apply Yes To Coconuts head to toe balm on the dry patches.I then moisturize with Nivea cream which I purchased in Germany (different from the one sold in the US). Wow that sounds like a lot of products but finally the dry patches are gone thank goodness.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m glad you found a sysem that works for you Calimom! Dry skin stinks!

  • Cassie Komorosky

I have a few recommendations. The glam glow thirstymud is good for overnight treatment of dry skin, even though it is expensive. The Origins drink up mask is also good for this purpose but less expensive, although I prefer the glam glow. First Aid Beauty products have helped me too, such as the cleanser and the ultra repair cream is an incredible moisturizer. Josie Maran’s argan oil also helps too. I somehow found a combination of all of these to use that works well and pretty much obliterated the dry skin around my nose 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

thanks for the recs cassie! I really wanna try out the glam glow but damn it’s costly 😀

  • cat

It’s not even winter yet and my skin has already started freaking out and getting flaky. I’m still trying to figure out whether or not First Aid Beauty cream breaks me out and I just started using a new exfoliant. I think FAB cream keeps my skin in an OK condition but I probably need another product that can do more heavy lifting. Fingers crossed it doesn’t break me out though because I have another tub of it from a set. 😛
