Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation Launches

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation

Revlon Photoready Foundation Makeup gets a face lift for Spring 2015 with a new Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation formula that’s hitting drugstores now.

I’m not a huge fan of Photoready Foundation Makeup, I just don’t like the formula, but Halle Berry looks so amazing in the promo images I had this insane need to try out Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation! I withheld but just barely 🙂

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Makeup

The new Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Makeup promises light filtering technology and soft focused pigments that give your skin a smooth, airbrushed perfected appearance! The display I came across had 11 shades which seemed odd since the original formula contains 12 but I imagine once it starts getting more of a mass launch you’ll see it available in the full 12 shades. I didn’t really compare to see if the shades were the same names as the original formula or not though!

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Makeup will obviously be a permanent foundation. I’m curious if it’ll join or replace the current formulation.

I imagine fans of this foundation will either love the idea of a new formula or hate it. Hopefully they improved upon the old and won’t disappoint fans with a new formula they may not like.

Are you a Photoready foundation user?

Do share what you think of the new Airbrush Effect formula!

I’m a dedicated Revlon photo ready foundation customer ( beauty therapist , make up artist )which was a amazing product .I cannot understand why they changed the formula .I recently was forced to use there new updated Revlon Photoready airbrush foundation what a disappointing product . It’s thick it doesn’t glide on the face evenly , the colour is completely different to the old colours 2shades darker also very sticky on the face which I have never had with Revlon, which will catch out quite ALOT of people . I have been a dedicated Revlon customer but I have to say after 15 years of loyalty they have lost me , I’m now forced to go to another cosmetic house MAC I think will get my business , let’s hope Revlon listen to there customers because this was a complete disappointment .

      • Kellie

It’s absolutely disappointing. Like you said, it’s darker, thick, won’t blend, and sticky…. sad all around 🙁

      • Jenny

Awful. I purchased the #5 which is what i had in the old formula. I applied and ended up looking like an oompa loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Way too dark. Too thick, dries too quickly. Hate it. Please bring old version back!!

Will be switching back to MAC.

    • Amanda

I hate the new version I am breaking out left and right from it and this was the only brand I have tried in my 17 years of applying makeup that didn’t make me break out!!!!! I want the old version back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Jennifer McCoy

I agree — this has been a horrible experience, thickness changes, monster sized sparkles, extreme color changes and my face is covered in welts from this new one. I am not sure if they put out the original formula if I would even trust them ever again.

  • Dee

I’ve not tried it yet but will give it a go when it comes out. I really like Revlon’s Color Stay foundation. For a drugstore brand it’s great…the liquid and not the whipped formula in the jar.

  • Jill

I bought this over the weekend and it seems like the shimmer pieces in this one are even more prominent than the other photoready foundation… not sure why Revlon did that?!

  • Alyse

I recently started using Revlon Photoready foundation (original formula) and LOVE it. I used to use Smashbox HD foundation (which is also awesome) but that was just too expensive! I was thrilled to find an inexpensive foundation that felt and looked exactly the same! So…I had used up my first bottle of the photoready foundation and went to the store to buy another. I couldn’t find my shade ANYWHERE. I came to the conclusion that Revlon may be discontinuing the shade and was very sad. I went online to see if I could find it and Target had the new Photoready Airbrish Effect foundation, so I ordered it. All of that to say….

I was extremely disappointed in the new formula! I completely agree with the first comment. It’s thick, sticky, and made my skin feel/look oily. But the worst part is that my skin went cometely nuts and broke out pretty bad. My skin is temperamental in general so I can’t say for sure that it was the makeup, but I am 90% sure that is why. I definitely do not reccommend it.

But there is a happy ending…I was at Kroger today and found my shade in the original formula! All is well now. 🙂

    • Connie

I also hate the new formula. Thanks for posting. I will look at Kroger’s right away.

  • Donna

Looks like the.airbrush formula is replacing the standard Photoready fond de teint foundation. Couldn’t find the kind I normallly buy; this was the only option as the store has a new display. Nude 004 is darker than the standard foundation and it seems dewier… I feel like my face is wet and I’ve broken out a bit. Unhappy.

Was in a rush today to pick up my usual photoready foundation. Bought it without even realizing it was the new formula. I use golden beige, and the new one is MUCH darker than the old one. So dark and orange that there is absolutely no way I could ever use it, even at my most tanned. The formula also seemed thick and gooey, with more sparkles. I have been using this foundation for 3 years, and the thought of having to find a new one when I am on a low budget is not exciting.

  • Ava

I became addicted to Revlon photo ready about a year ago when I realised just how good it was. The colour ‘Golden Beige’ matched my skin perfectly and had a fantastic coverage. I went to buy it again for probably about the 8th time and this time it said ‘new and improved’ which I didnt think much of at the time. I tried it this morning and it was like putting THICK mud on my face. It was so dark and HORRIBLE. I am really disappointed.

  • Sydney

Pretty upset with the new version of this foundation.. I’ve used this same one for over 4 years and have never even thought of changing my foundation.. Until one day I went to the store and purchased the exact same one I’ve bought for years not thinking about the “new” sticker on it. I got home and hated it! My face was sticky, and brutally orange! So I went back thinking it was just a crappy bottle, again not realizing the “new” sticker until I got home and tried this foundation again. Since I am originally from a small town I went home and my local drugstore luckily had a few bottles of the old one left.. Which I bought. When I got home I compared the two side by side and it was awful, the old version set into my hand and wasn’t sticky or rubbing off at all.. The new version was thick, did not set in and was way more orange than the other shade! Not impressed, of anyone knows what other foundations I can try that are like the old version of this please let me know!!

    • Alyse

I tried L’Oreal True Match foundation and I like it so far! Seems very similar to the original Revlon Photoready formula. 🙂

  • Maria Humphries

Wow I thought it was just me that had this problem!!! I loved the old formulation and suited my skin really well. Set really well, matched really well and didn’t feel too heavy or cakey. Now it’s darker, heavier and feels like mud on my face, constantly sticky. Very disappointed because now I’m going to have to find a new make up for combination asian skin!! Le sigh.

I just bought the new Revlon, Airbrush Effects, Photoready foundation to replace my original Photoready foundation. I tried it on one side of my face and the old one on the other side. They are completely different.

The new formula is not an improvement at all.
    1. The color is not the same. 003 Shell now looks bronze.
    2. It does not go on smoothly or seamlessly.
    4. It does not feel as moisturizing as the original.
    5. When I looked at it with a magnifying mirror, it has little sparkles in it – yuk! It made me think of those plastic beads they put in makeup that harms the environment – not sure what it is.

Then I asked my husband which side of m face had the nicer looking skin, and mind you he is a typical guy who does not notice anything. He immediately pointed to the “original Photoready” side of my face.

Why oh why did they change such a great product. It was the best foundation I had ever used and now I will need to find another product. The least they could have done is keep the original formula too. Thanks a lot Revlon. Please bring back the original Photoready.

    • Connie

Agreed. Hands down the new formula is a step backwards. Who at Revlon would listen?

Hi there-i just bought this product today. Mistake on my part not trying the colour first BUT i have normally got natural beigeand thought as i had this before it would b th same…its not…its darker… 005 natural beige. Do i got up or down to go lighter?

  • Lisa

Very disappointed in the “new” 2015 facelift. I like the old formula!!! Shade does not match and it does NOT apply like the “old” foundation. 🙁

  • Erica

I hate the new formula. Hate hate hate it! After YEARS of using the original formula I am now forced to switch companies. This sucks revlon. I now look orange even when using 001 IVORY

  • Meredith

Absolutely disappointed! So thick and sticky feeling. Forget spreading into your hairline. It looks and acts like gel. I usually have to break out a hairdryer and redo the hair around my face. I have always used the photo ready but will be switching brands. My face has broken out terribly too. What a shame.

  • Julie

I also bought the ‘new & improved’ version without realising the colour is completely wrong! I feel robbed as the packaging is almost identical i don’t think they should be able to market it as the same product its completely different. Does anyone know how we can complain to Revlon? and seek a refund? My face has also broken out so disappointing!!!!

    • Sarah

Comment on the Facebook page or through there contact me section on their page. I completely agree… and have already emailed them about the $60 that I have wasted on this sticky orange sparkley muddy product after buying it religiously for 4 years.. I thought I got a dud…. so I went and bought a new one nope still bright orange and muddy. Such a shame Revlon…

  • ann king

Horrible- Been using Revlon Photoready for years. Loved the color, sheen, and staying power. Colors were very natural. Tried the lightest shade of the new formula and guess what? There are no light shades!! I used vanilla and it was darker than other brands of medium beige. I looked like the tin man after a week in the rain. Or more like an oompa loompa. I was orange and greasy. The color looked so unnatural. My gosh, you can look at the bottles in the store and see they are all dark. EVen stranger, they all appear to be nearly the same shade lol. What is up with that. Revlon, you have lost a faithful customer.

  • laura

Have been using photoready for two years now! was very happy with the coverage and suited my oily combination skin perfectly. I also find the new formulae sticky, waaaay too dark and patchy. I called revlon to complain but they said there was no difference in the shades!?

  • Figgy

I work as a beauty advisor at Walgreens and we’re promoting this item right now so I thought I’d give it a shot. Gotta say, I’m not impressed. If I so much as barely touch my face it gets all over. And it’s far too sparkly for my liking. Definitely returning it my next shift.

  • Kat

So glad everyone else agrees with me – I have a few old bottles of the Natural Beige with hardly any left in them and I’m trying to pump every last drop! I hate the new one – dark, dirty and dry. Not looking forward to trying to found a new foundation after 8 years using the same one.

  • APRILLA

I absolutely hate the new version! I have been wearing the old version for years and this new stuff is terrible! I have been using the new version for the past 3 weeks and am now looking for something else. It is very thick and DRY and does not glide on smoothly like the old version. The colors aren’t even the same. The regular shade that I would buy in the old version is waaay too dark for me in the new version. My face has been breaking out too…ugh. When you have a good product that works…why would you want to change it??? I won’t be buying it again….soooo disappointing and frustrating!!!!

  • Sherrie

Im glad I’m not the only one! I agree with you ladies, I’ve used it 3 times now and I’m so disappointed! Half way during the day I have to wash it off, makes my face feel dry and gets blotchy. Been using it for so long I’m not sure what else compares? Help!

  • Tabitha

I’m so relieved I found this post- I thought I was going crazy! I ran out of my bottle of the original formula in the lightest shade (loved it – best foundation I’ve used and perfect shade.. used it for years and years). I went to get a replacement and thought it was just updated packaging. As soon as I put it on my skin I knew something was up. Totally wrong shade, very orangey, too dark, and really sticky and hard to blend. It clumped up around my nose and was just a nightmare. It looks very patchy and is wayyy to thick 🙁 The original left my skin so dewy and fresh and this new formula is very muddy, dry, and feels cheap. Super disappointed, but glad that I’m not alone.

  • Tanithjones

I am very disappointed in the new formula. I absolutely loved the original Photoready and the new formula is thick, doesn’t smooth over my face as well and leaves my pores looking huge. It also doesn’t seem to last like the original. I notice areas it seems to wear off or flake off. I would be interested in anyone’s recomendations on a product they have found to be like the original

  • Jennifer McCoy

The original formula was wonderful, I recommended it to friends, it slid on my face smoothly and I didn’t look like a clown. They changed it, put something toxic in it. The next bottle I bought was THICK, it was difficult to put on and blotchy and I sparkled in the sun like one of those stupid movie vampires. The third bottle I bought, the color changed. It was orangutang orange. I threw it away and bought the next lightest color thinking I must have been confused. This last bottle is fine color wise, but I still look like I have been dipped in glitter and my face is breaking out it huge zit like bumps that are painful and swollen and then scab over and appear to never go away. Today, I scraped the sides of an old original formula bottle with a q-tip so I can go to work… but I cannot use Revlon Airbrush Effect foundation anymore and I mourn the loss of what was once a wonderful foundation. I am so upset (and my face is in so much pain) that I am writing this to let everyone know what you have done to real people with your “progress”.

I haven’t been this freaking mad over a discontinuation of a product EVER!! When I heard they were discontinuing the original PhotoReady Foundation I thought it had to be a mistake. Why would they discontinue one of their best selling products? Then, when I was at Target I saw that in fact, they had replaced it with a different formulation. I was confused because all the bottles looked like the same dark color, even Shell, which is the color I use.
I tested it on my hand and could not believe what I was seeing!!! Thick, orangey, goopey-ness that did not blend and made my hand look like Oompah Loompah skin!!!!! What were they THINKING?!?! I’ve been seething with anger, especially since I’m apparently not crazy and the only one who is absolutely dumbfounded why they would do this! I’m absolutely beside myself about this! I use the PhotoReady Foundation, Primer, concealer, Foundation stick, AND the translucent powder, and it’s the only DS line that doesn’t break me out and looks flawless. I’ve been buying that foundation religiously since it came out and saw how fantastic it made my skin look. I’m SO mad that I honestly believe that whoevers’ bright idea this was should get another profession because they done effed up, hardcore. Revlon needs to pull this and put the ORIGINAL formula back on the shelves, pronto. I doubt that will happen though. Companies don’t like to admit they messed up. I guess their sales will reflect. I hope everyone stops buying this “Airbrush Effect” orange goop of a “foundation”. It’s not good and it’s DEFINITELY not better. if it weren’t for the fact that I love the powder, the concealer and the stick I’d stop buying Revlon all together over this.

  • Laura

I just bought this for the first time last week and I love it! Best foundation to date that ive used.
I have blemishes & freckles and once this is applied its hard to tell where they are.
Yes it is a bit sticky but once its dried and powdered on top its fine, this doesnt budge until I wipe it off at night.
    Gets a 10/10 from me!

  • nkonie

I bought it for the first time last weekend, used it twice and already know it’s not something I would continue using. It is thick, heavy and oily, not to mention messy. All the papers on my desk are stained even from a light touch of my face. It’s orangey and doesn’t even out nicely like the photoready. If airbrush ready stays, it’s bye-bye revlon for me.

  • Jenny

I agree with all the comments! I had the old version which was amazing!! I had tried every single make you could think of and ended up with Revlon photo ready being the best. I recently bought another bottle and it is the new version, which the lady assured me is just a new bottle but it’s exactly the same formula. I bought the exact same name & colour as i last had 05 Natural Beige. It is awful. It’s at least 2 shades darker than what i’m used to and it doesn’t last half as long on your face. I can’t even get a refund because obviously i have opened it, i wont be using it though! So disappointed. Need to start my search all over again now!

Can’t we start a petition or something to get the old one back?! 🙂
