2015 Pantone Color of the Year Released

2015 pantone color of the year

Information on the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year has been released! The 2015 Pantone Color of the Year shade is entitled Marsala. It’s a red-brown wine which will make for a lovely palette come Fall 2015 as it’s warm, very inviting, and will make a delicious lipstick shade for warm loving red girls and guys.

At this point most are thinking of how wonderful the shade will look against the back drop of Fall fashions in a range of metallic earthy tones. Personally, I’m thinking of lipstick in this color even a warm reddish brown blush or eyeshadow so my focus is on what sort of makeup trends we’ll see with the introduction of this shade. Although the color of the year it seems like a beautiful Fall shade so I look forward to see what Fall 2015 brings in this shade and who knows it might just dominate Summer 2015 Makeup Collections as well.

I’m also very curious if Sephora will launch a new Pantone Color of the Collection celebrating Marsala! One can hope so as it truly is a gorgeous color.

What do you think of the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year?

Embracing it?

Or just not to your liking?

Do share!

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Hmm. Looks kind of bland in my opinion. Wearable, but almost too wearable, like it doesn’t make enough of a statement like Radiant Orchid did, you know?

Also I notice that with the color of the year, interest seems to dwindle after the beginning of the year, when the big sets are released. So this might not be as successful come fall of 2015, because of a lack of interest. Or maybe there will, and they’ll simply delay the sets so that the color can shine in its prime?

Not feeling this color. I’ve been enjoying the more vibrant colors the past couple of years. This seems so-everyday and plain.

  • Brooke Elise

I was hoping it would be a cobalt blue or a mustard yellow, but I’m sure those have been done previously!

I’m pretty sure I just bought a lipstick this colour the other day…I’m excited to see what Sephora has in store for the Pantone collection! I’m hoping for some pretty lipsticks, or even a nice Marsala blush.

  • reena

    oooooOOOOOOhhhhhh gorgeous color!

reminds me of Revlon’s “rum raisin” or a mix of Mac’s”twig” and Mac’s “mocha” lipsticks.

and wet n wild has a pretty shade “spiked with rum”.

cant wait to see the new products in this shade range!

After the orchid and the emerald, it’s nice to see them bring out a shade that is on the warmer side.

It also means that my wallet is much safer! Warm tones usually makes me look dull and tired. But I can think of a ton of people that it would fantastic on! 🙂

I love this color! When I saw it announced earlier my first thought was “finally, a color I’ll wear!” haha. I’m really looking forward to seeing eye products with this color. I love a grungy looking eye makeup, and I think this color would be great for that sort of thing.

(i’m also excited for lipstick and blush so i think overall this is great news for me considering all the products we’re sure to see in this shade lol)

Interesting how they went from a purple pink (pretty in photos, but hard for many people to pull off) to a red brown (which looks kind of blah in photos, but is probably much more wearable). I look best in red brown lipsticks (hello 90’s), so this could be my year!

    • auntymaim

Ha! My first thought when I saw this was excitement at having an excuse to wear 90s lipstick colors again, heellluuu MAC Paramount!

  • breyerchic04

This will be a great color in lips, eyes, cheeks, clothes, yay! I can’t wait to see different textures in this shade.

  • Carrie

eyeshadow, maybe but lipsticks in colors like this look like i smeared mud on them 🙁 i’ll hold out and see what they give us though

  • Tammy

I’m so excited for this color! Don’t really have a favorite color, but this could easily be it! I can’t wait for all the products and fashion that would come out in this color. It’s going to such a flattering color on everyone I think 🙂

  • Kiss & Make-up

Oooooh, not bad! I like this better than this year’s radiant orchid I think.

  • Bonnie S.

Oh I just love it! I love the warmth of this gorgeous brick colour, it’s going to be an amazing year in makeup with this colour as inspiration. Such lushness, such warmth, oooooh!!!! I can’t wait for the Sephora collection – I’ll be on the lookout.

  • Adrienne

Personally I am not feeling it. More of a fall color not an all year round “pop” of color like previous years, like the bright greens, blues and shades of orchid, even the tangerine. I guess its more subdued this time. I imagine it will look great on a lot of people and be universally flattering in makeup and clothing. Maybe that is what they were going for. I could never pull off the tangerines. LOL.

  • kim

love it!! I didn’t buy anything from the emerald or orchid collections, because I’m more of a neutral girl. so this is right up my alley. this color would work great on lips and cheeks.

  • Sara

Oooo, that’s probably my favorite hue for lipstick!! I love a good mauve-pink! I’m excited to see new lipsticks in this color 😀

  • Cinthya

I am excited!!!!!:D I love shades like this, especially for the lips! I hope too, that Sephora launches a collection! Fingers crossed!

  • Patricia Kelley

Looks so similar to Clinique Black Honey eyeshadow on my monitor! Love it.

  • kimkats

Ooooo….. I can see this working beautifully for lips and cheeks, not so much for eyes, at least not for me. Reddish shadows make me look ill or rabid, so I wouldn’t be able to wear shadows this shade, but I am SO looking forward to lips and cheeks in this shade of loveliest red/brown! Like this way better than last years (oops, this years) lilac or lavender or whatever it was called.

  • Pash

Meh. I suppose this would make a good work-safe lip shade but as far as colors go it’s so unexciting.

  • Tequila Mockingbird

This looks like an MLBB shade for me! I hope any lip products in this color come in both matte and emollient-buttery formulas 😀

  • JoElla

At first was was like “what in the blue blazes of hell?!?!” but then read someone post how beautiful this will look on tanned skin in the summer (hell yes!) and fall into winter (another hell yes!!) I was stuck in ‘color for spring’ which IMO doesn’t work.

It will be interesting to see the upcoming makeup trends and kits with this color.

  • Iris

I like this as a makeup colour, especially for the lips. It is less appealing as an accessory and clothing colour.

    • Carol

Just clicked on that link and oh my goodness! That blush trio from Sephora! Drool!! I’m on board with this color for sure…

    • Katherine T.

OMG, somebody please lock me up now! I LOVE brown pink and brick red lipsticks! My wallet’s going to be crying in 2015

  • Angel

This color wont work on me personally, but it will look amazing on so many people. Colors like this turn orange on me. This will also be a great hair color, wonder if someone picks up on that marketing aspect.

  • Dee

I like this a lot! Very wearable (for me anyway) and won’t seem dated like some of the other colors they have chosen.

  • Benni

I love this color, and looks like I’m on trend (or so I’d like to dream) since I just bought a few lipsticks that are close to this color.

However, I am just a tad bit disappointed that it’s a color I already know I love. I was excited to discover radiant orchid this year, so I was hoping to broaden my tastes a bit more with 2015’s color of the year. Oh well. More stuff to like from Sephora next year, I’m sure.

  • kellly

I LOVE it! I recently bought a Japonesque lipstick in color #6 that’s just great for me, and this is very similar. I’ve been really into mauve and taupe lately anyway and this is right along those lines. Makes up for them not choosing Rose Gold as the color last year – almost! I can see a Sephora Pantone set in my future already!!

  • Nat

Oh, I am looking forward to this! Should be a good shade for all sorts of products! 😀
