Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette 2

Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette ($49) is a new deeper, warmer version of the original Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette that launched with the Too Faced Spring 2015 Collection recently.

I really liked the original Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette but wasn’t so sure about the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette version but after trying it I’m pretty darn impressed.

Funny enough I thought dubbing it “semi-sweet” would mean they would have went cooler with the shades of chocolate in the palette but according to Too Faced this is all about deeper, warmer shades. Personally I think the both the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette and the original Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette contain warm, rich, shades. I don’t really feel either of the two has lighter or more darker, richer shades. For me, both, have rich, beautiful shades of chocolates.

I got the palette a few days ago and it’s as adorable as the first. It comes housed in a tin compact featuring a generously sized mirror and 16 shades of eyeshadow in matte, satin, and shimmer finishes. Each of the shadow’s name is now printed directly under it as well which was a nice new feature that the original palette did not have. The palette is shaped like a chocolate bar and has that whimsical Willy Wonka feel and look! One thing I did notice is this is a little thinner than the original palette although still the same length. Two Faced includes a get the look guide to create three different looks using the palette. I always appreciate these little guides as I’m horrible at matching up shades and this gives me quick step by step instructions for color placement and also give me an idea of which shades will look good paired together. As soon as you open the palette you’ll be hit in the face with the decadent scent of chocolate! No worries if you’re sensitive as once applied you won’t smell chocolate all day!

At a glance the palette in promo images looks a little dry but lord knows you can never go by promo images alone! But upon getting the palette I kinda felt the same way, the shades looked a bit dry. But…I swatched them and was just as impressed as I was with the original palette. The mattes are soft and silky and with the satin shades have that customary Too Faced creamy velvety texture. The shades apply and blend beautifully with a buttery texture. I had a problem with a single shade, Pink Sugar, which was kinda of gritty and sheer but aside from that the other colors were beautiful. About five or six of the shades here do seem similar to shades that you may already have in the original Chocolate Bar Palette but are either lighter or darker than the originals so they aren’t complete dupes.

Honestly, if you loved the original you’re bound to adore the new Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette especially if you like warm, rich shades for your eyes because lord knows this palette is packed full of warm, decadent chocolate-y shades! The nice thing about the palette is you can go super dramatic with your looks but there are plenty of options here to create softer, natural looks which is how I used it to create my look above.

Overall, you’re going to want this one if you love chocolate-y eyeshadows!

The Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette is available now at Sephora.com and should launch shortly at other retailers and in stores.

Ugh.. I totes want it. But, I just think it looks too much like the original… and the last thing I need is another palette of neutrals. Neutrals are my weakness!! By the way, sorry if you’ve already done a post on these, but have you tried the ColourPop Super Shock Shadows yet? They are amaze balls!!!! Would love to see you do a review!

    • Ali

Whoops — I should have scrolled down a few pages. I just read your review! These things are quite unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. I feel like I’m going to be making another purchase soon!

    • Isabella Muse

it does just a bit lighter and darker in shade selections Ali but there are some new, unique shades! I’d say about five or so shades are like ones in the original but they are a little lighter or a little darker than the original. Neutrals are my weakness too don’t forget better 🙂 I did a review a week ago 🙂

I love this palette…but i replaced my pink sugar and used mac pigments and made a new shade in the spot without removing the pan. I used alcohol with kitchmas, reflects teal, very pink, goldrift,
relects blue and fushia and touch of pink bronze…came out so nice! The pink sugar shade just pops out with ease..it just crumbles out..that shade was made not good. But now im set!!

  • auroragyps

Still want them to make a Mint Chocolate Bar palette with all neutrals and some shades of green. I would love that.

  • Dee

I really like this. I’m not a glitter fan, but the satiny shades look very wearable. Love this look on you!

    • Isabella Muse

thanks dee flattered! The shades are very wearable! I get more metallic from their satin shades than hardcore glitter!

  • Leah

I skipped the first Chocolate bar palette because it was on the warm side and I figured I wouldn’t use it enough to justify the price. I was so excited when I heard about this one, but alas! It is even warmer-toned than the first one! Maybe they’ll have a chocolate ice cream bar palette with cool shades some day! (Ice cream is cold-cool shades, get it?) Okay, enough with the terrible jokes and thanks for the good review and swatches!

  • Fancie

I have the first one and I still want this one lol. I really like the warmer colors this time around

  • Phyrra

Thanks for the great swatches! It looks like another neutral palette that people will love. Plus, it smells like chocolate. Who doesn’t love that?

  • Deborah

I’m so tempted! I think I could dupe nearly every shade across my palettes but they are not all contained in one palette, a cute palette that looks like a candy bar. 😊. I do love the glitter in the matte shades. It makes them really wearable. I really struggle to get a good look out of my Lorac Unzipped because it is so warm so I don’t want another palette like that. :/. I’m not sure Muse. What should I do?! 😅

  • Maria

Hi Isabella. I have original set unopened. sitting with my other palettes. Lol. I wonder if the new palette is worth it since shades look similar except for blue shade. Thanks.

  • Melissa

I just got this yesterday and used it today. Love it!!! I was really debating on getting it because some people were saying its so similar to the first one. I feel it’s not the same as the first one and I have both. Yes they both have brown/nude colors in it but they are different shades. Can’t wait to play with it more.

I think you put bon bon twice, right where blueberry swirl is! Just wanted to let you know, unless my phone messed up xD.

  • Kelly Zollo

I use this every other day along with the original chocolate bar. My husband got it for me as my Christmas present. I love this pallet probably even more then my Naked 3. Not that there is anything wrong with the Naked 3 but it has a lot of pinks in it which is good sometimes but lately I’ve been falling out of love with it.

That being said with my super pale skin and dark blue eyes I love this palette the golds/orange shades to me alone were worth it. I feel it has a ton of versatility. This also has allowed me to really play with greys and a black for the first time which I am loving. Now granted Blueberry Swirl isn’t that pigmented much like Candied Violet in the original it is build-able. The one dud in it for me is Pink Sugar but if they were going for a glitter overlay it is suitable for the job if I want that pop of pink I can easily reach for my Naked 3 or the original Chocolate Bar.

    • Isabella Muse

yay! so happy to hear it kelly 😀 yeah pink sugar was a dud for me too :-/ and it was such a pretty shade too damn shame the formula is wonky! So glad you love the palette! thanks for sharing!

  • Ana

Glad to hear some people actually enjoy this palette. I bought it a month ago and Im actually quite disappointed with it. Its not the worst but its performance doesn’t justify the price tag in my opinion. I had to really dig into the shadows to get decent pigmentation because a normal swatch barely did anything but a light wash of color. It performs a little better than it swatches but a disappointment overall. The blue and the pink glittery shadow were the worst. I own other too faced palettes and the quality of this one isn’t up to par in my opinion.

  • Jessica

I didn’t get the first one because it was too warm for my liking. This one seems a little less warm, but just warm enough that I want to play around with. Will be purchasing. 🙂

  • Gabby

I just yesterday purchased the original chocolate bar palette online. I’m currently looking for the Semi Sweet one for a reasonable price online and in my budget lol.
