Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer Review & Swatches

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer is a new Maybelline Spring 2015 launch by Facestudio that’s available in five shade selections.

You know I’m a total concealer junkie so I HAD to purchase Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer and give it a whirl!

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer is a medium coverage concealer with a VERY nice formula. Drugstore concealers, in my opinion, have almost always been way too dry for me! It’s very difficult for me to find a concealer at the drugstore that doesn’t creep and crawl into my finer liners. They are either too sheer, too dry, too cakey, or too prone to creasing in my experience.

Just this past Summer, L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Concealer completely blew the drugstore concealer world out of the water by introducing a moist, gorgeously textured concealer. This isn’t to say that Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer is as moist (it isn’t sadly), it is to say that concealer is evolving at the drugstore and both Maybelline and L’Oreal are doing a great job of making me WANT to buy my concealer at the drugstore.

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer Swatches (Light, Light Medium, and Medium)

As I mentioned above Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer isn’t as moist as Visible Lift Blur Concealer it is however, nicely textured in its own right! This is a light to almost medium coverage concealer with a creamy texture that blends easily under my drier eyes and conceals puffiness, lighter dark circles, and finer lines easily. I find the texture isn’t terribly moist but it isn’t dry either and blends out smoothly. I purchased three different shades and all the shades have a very strong yellow undertone so if you have dark circles this is going to be a very good remedy for blurring their appearance and brightening up your eyes. Just keep in mind the shades run pretty light. I tried light, light medium, and medium (which looked dark in the tube but was lighter when applied) and all the shades ran pretty light in my opinion so you might want to go a choose a shade up when purchasing.

This formula wears well for me without creasing. I can get about six hours of wear before seeing some fading and when set with powder I can get about eight hours!

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer likely won’t take the place of Visible Lift Blur. I find Visible Lift Blur is a little nicer on my drier eyes! But I will say this is a very nice concealer but it does have some limitations one of which is the fact that it has such a yellow undertone. Yellow is fab for diffusing dark circles but not everyone has dark circles and some folks are seeing to conceal puffiness, finer lines, but not necessarily dark circles and there’s also the fact that yellow just might not suit your skin tone.

On the upside, if the color range does suit your skin tone this is a fairly nice concealer formula and a great stride in the right direction for drugstore concealer! Finally, proof that not all drugstore concealers have to dry and cakey!

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer is available now at Harmons and should get a wider drugstore launch in January!

I purchased this item.

Long-time reader, first time commenter here! You mention that they have a yellow undertone but said that if you’re not looking to conceal dark circles, you may want to be wary. Do you think it’s too yellow to use for things other than dark circles? Or would it suit people with warm undertones nicely for other purposes (blemishes, etc) as well?

    • Isabella Muse

hi tricia I didn’t use it on my face but it should be suitable for warmer undertones. The medium should do well with a warmer undertone used on your face.

sorry I thought I was replying to a lipgloss post! I had two comments on the Rimmel Lip Lacquers and I thought this was one duh! obviously didn’t taste it haha…and no, not fragrance that I noticed!

The formula sounds pretty nice. I’m curious to see what the other 2 shades look like

  • Lacy

Saw this at a cvs across town but all the light, light/mediums had already been snatched up

Sidenote… Beauty.com has a bunch of stuff on clearance, one of wich is the Smashbox On The Rocks luxe eyeshadow palette for $18.. i feel like it’s a crime if I don’t buy it for that cheap even tho some of the colors I probably wouldn’t wear… hmmm

Hi Isabella. How does this compare to it cosmetics bye bye concealer waterproof that I got from qvc today special set? Thanks

    • Isabella Muse

oh nothing lot it maria. Bye Bye is thick, emollient, and provides full coverage. This is thicker, creamy, with a lot less coverage. They are vastly different products dear!

I will make sure to try the L’Oreal one. I feel like my undereyes just drink up the moisturizer under them in the morning, no matter how much I use! Nine times out of ten when I try to put concealer under my eyes, it just looks cakey :/

    • Isabella Muse

i totally can relate. try a little facial oil, argan oil prior to applying concealer.

I’m glad the shades in this range run light, since the shades in other Maybelline concealers run so dark. I have the lightest shade in the Fit Me line, and it gives me scary brown raccoon eyes. And I’m not even THAT pale. But I’m concerned about this one being so “moisturizing,” since that usually means it will make my mascara smudge.

It’s so frustrating that all the drugstore concealers are so warm! I have super light super pink skin, and the lightest concealers at the drugstore (trust me, I’ve tried a lot!) either are too dark or too yellow. I finally had to bite the bullet and buy the lightest Nars one after spending ten minutes going around Sephora and swatching all the concealers (98% of which were also too dark/yellow) and frustrating the heck out of the makeup artist helping me! I don’t want to have to spend that much on a concealer 🙁 The only time I can get away with drugstore ones (I really like NYX HD) is in the summer.

I have the Maybelling Age Rewind concealer (the one with the spongy ball) in Light, and that’s very pink toned. Also the Physician’s Formula in Fair/Light is pinky.
But at least the good news for you is that 99% of drugstore foundations are pink toned! I have yellow-toned skin, and it’s basically impossible to find a drugstore foundation that’s not too pink for me (except for the L’Oreal True Match.)

  • Alice

How much do these retail for? Would you recommend this for oily areas of the skin since it’s drier than the loreal one? Or are these still too creamy that the oil would show through quickly? Wonderful and thorough review, btw!

  • Vanessa

I’m about a nc 35-37 would light/medium or medium be better for undereyes? I always have a hard time getting a shade too light or too dark.

  • Meg

I love this product for blemishes but I will be trying the L’Oreal one soon for dark circles, as I have dry skin! Are the L’Oreal ones pink or yellow toned? Thanks for the review!
