Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet Review & Swatches
Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet is a new matte lip cream available in five shades selections that’s launching with the Rimmel Spring 2015 Makeup Collection at drugstores. Seems matte is right on trend for the Spring season as L’Oreal has a new Pro Matte Gloss as well!
Let’s take a look at these new Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvets.
The Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet formula has been available in the UK but a while now so I’m glad we’re finally get them here in the US. Don’t mistake these for the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers if you pass the display at drugstores because the packaging on the Lip Velvets is identical to the the Lip Lacquers plus the display has some of the older Lip Lacquers advertised in it so it can get confusing.
Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvets are marketed as an eight hour smooth, velvety matte lip color that provides weightless eight hour wear.
Shades available:
- Atomic Rose
- Meteoric Matte
- Orange-Ology
- Burning Lava
- Apollo (US Exclusive)
These are formulated a lot like NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams but personally I thought the formula much better since they didn’t dry my lips out as much as NYX’s formula did and they applied considerably smoother and more even. Funny thing about matte liquid lipsticks, I always feel like a five year old when I apply them because I can never get them applied evenly. No worries here because these Lip Velvets have a formula that practically applies itself. This is smooth, creamy velvety liquid lip color at its best. It glides onto lips, drenches them in opaque color, and has a smooth, flawless, airbrushed appearance. The color is so very even and perfect no matter how much you apply. The matte finish is elegant, bright, and very dramatic. They wear for a full six hours and have a light barely there texture during the wear. I noticed that around the four hour mark color was a little bit flaky but still looked incredibly smooth. At the last hour of wear the color stained my lips and I felt slightly dry but nothing too bad. I’m prone to drier, flakier lips and these honestly, wore and felt very comfortable. Even with my lips flaky they still had a smooth, even appearance.

I’m quite amazed at the evolution of such fine matte lip products being launched at drugstores this Spring! Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet has the feel, texture, and wear of a lip cream that costs three times what I paid for it ($4.89 each at Harmons).
These are worth indulging in!
Available now at Harmons and they should launch at mass drugstores as wear near January.
